After trying the Kakaako store (closest to my house) I ended up at the Kapolei store because they had the framing material I wanted to frame my 24.5in x 34.5in poster. The finished framing was beautiful & I am glad I stayed with the veneer I wanted. It cost over $300 and took 1week. Both stores can get busy, so 2 staff per store can mean long wait times to get the help you need. I gave a 3.5 star rating because Kalani delivered much aloha. read more

Framing a piece of artwork in Honolulu, Hawaii... Our priest asked me to have his charcoal work framed. I thought, "Oh, no... I know nothing about art. I didn't even take Art 101 in college..." However, I accepted the assignment and knew that Pictures Plus in Kaka'ako had a good reputation, so I walked in and dropped off the print. After discussing with my dentist, she went back with me the next day to Pictures Plus to upgrade from plexiglass to Museum Quality Glass because this portrait of Bishop Larry Silva (Diocese of Honolulu) is a gift to the Bishop at his upcoming 50th Anniversary dinner. Kalani was the cashier who must have been amused at our conversation. He showed us different matting examples and we added on a gray mat to have as a border between the glass and the print. Wow. I learned a lot. The upgrades of matting and glass would be about $100 more. I told them that Father Adondee had a budget. My dentist offered to cover the difference, but Kalani said he would take care of it. Thank you so much! The work was supposed to be finished on Monday, April 28, but I got a call on Saturday, April 26 that it was ready! Thank you for finishing early! I visited Pictures Plus in Kaka'ako with a magazine article I wanted to frame and was originally planning to do a full custom mat and frame combo. After reviewing the options, it ended up being a little out of my price range--but Kristi Medeiros, the Design Consultant, was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful throughout the process. She walked me through different solutions and even used their system to map out a digital template of the custom matting so I could visualize it. We ended up deciding to move forward with a custom mat for just $35, and she recommended using a standard-sized frame from elsewhere to stay within budget. I really appreciated her professionalism and willingness to help find a solution that worked for me. Just returned from Pictures Plus and had to share my experience. I am ashamed that I didn't ask the name of the gentleman who took care of me but I can't speak highly enough of the service he provided. I am in Hawaii visiting my mother who just turned 87 on Sat, on Friday night she experienced a leak in her condo from the unit above her, and a framed letter suffered damage to the backing board and mat. My mother doesn't drive and I will only be here a few more days. He patiently listed to my situation and kindly fixed it while I waited, and even wished my mother a happy birthday. I hope that he sees this and knows how grateful we are for his kindness and what he did for us. read more

Overall: I know there are a handful of picture framing shops around Oahu, and I cannot speak to most of them. BUT I can tell you that if you want the BEST quality service, with employees that have an eye for frame/mat/image color coordination, where you will be left 100% happy with the product, then Pictures Plus Kakaako the place to go. Experience: We went in, on two separate occasions. The most recent, we had some old images, some with broken frames, some rolled up, and a couple where the previous frame/mat combo made the otherwise beautiful image washed out and unpleasant. Staff: Kirsti was the team member that helped us and was friendly, helpful and fantastic! For every image, she made sure she understood what we were looking for, and examined the image to help suggest what might look best. She never tried to upsell us or drive us in a direction that we didn't want to go. Every suggestion she made was helpful and welcomed. By the end we just straight up asked her what she thought, and we went from there. Price: You can find their pricing online and request quotes (though better to just go in person). It is not "cheap". However, you get what you pay for. If you can mat and frame your own painting/photo/art and don't want to spend much, then buy your own frame and do so. But if you want quality craftsmanship that will last a long time, then you are going to need to pay for it. Bottom Line: This is the only place we will trust for the items we want to last. You won't be dissatisfied. We are already looking ahead to what we need to take there next. read more

One word. Kalani. I spent far too much on Pegge Hopper art on Black Friday. Naturally, I had to stop by Pictures Plus to get koa frames to match the beauty of my newly purchased art. I recently moved to SF and took two prints I purchased before moving to a SF framing store. Even with a 75% off coupon the price was outrageous and not koa. I decided if I'm going to make an investment in my art, I want it done the right way. I purchased three koa frames yesterday. Kalani helped me measure everything and quoted me shipping. He was ridiculously patient with all my questions. Normally, I would ship the artwork myself to save money. However, in June when I moved originally I had Pictures Plus ship two pieces of artwork I had framed there and they did such a remarkable job that it was a no brainer this time around. First let me say this place has awesome customer service. Went here with my husband to get our family photo framed. Staff assisted us with selecting a beautiful frame and we decided to get the photo redone as well. Took a week to get it all back, so the turn around was pretty quick but once we got the frame home we discovered there was huge chip in the corner. So we return the entire frame and the store apologized and had it all redone. Got the new photo and frame back in another week and brought it home. Only to discover more chips on both the right and left corner. Also the glass which we purchased to not have reflective light and glare issues does. No matter if the light is on or not the glare is horrible. I'm very disappointed because we spent over $500 for the photo and frame. If we return it this will be a second return and at this point I believe the quality of the frame is the issue and no matter how many times we return this frame will always have issues with chipping. I'm sorry to say this store does not have good quality frames. I will have to keep this for now and have it reframed once I return to the mainland. read more

The employee (Song) was busy helping about three other customers, and I was sure my last-minute drop-in could not accommodate. Song took the time to understand my urgency to frame these last-minute gifts and graciously stayed well after closing to make suggestions and get each piece looking like a masterpiece. Going beyond any customer service expectations, Song offered to come in the following day (her day off and a holiday) and finish the work in time for my needs. I recently brought two top quality multi colored pencil sketches to Pictures Plus to be mounted and framed in glass cases. These are a "One Of A Kind" hand drawn color pencil sketches of my prize Rottweiler, "Woolly Bully," done by an extremely talented Canadian artist. Kalani at Pictures Plus and I went over my options and we agreed upon a mounting and framing procedure and price. A few days later, Kalani called to inform me that the mounting procedure would be a lot more time consuming then what was first estimated due to the complexity of the pencil sketches. Kalani informed me that they would honor the initial price in spite of the extra hours and effort needed to professionally finish the mounting and framing. Found the staff to be incredibly helpful and chose an amazing natural warm wood for my pieces, also opted to have them mount the art and frame it for me to get it perfect. Being that it was my first time having frames made and art mounted I was surprised at the cost but it was worth it. They look amazing and you can see the care and amount of attention was put into each one. Highly recommend. Got a black frame from amazing (only color option for the size. After calling over a dozen framers, art experts and contractors and every one of them turning me down- I called Picture's Plus- Ward. It would seem that this store only handles residential, small time frames but boy was I wrong! Pat S worked with me to figure out the best way to handle, transport and exhibit this huge work of art. He had his team custom build a frame on site to get this painting hung for a special event. I came into the store with crutches and asked Stephen if he wouldn't mind grabbing my stuff from my car. Without hesitation, he said "Sure" and continued to assist me, making it easy for me to stay where I was and have him do the rest for me. I had three photos that needed to be replaced on existing frames. But the photos printed by another source seemed lifeless in color. So Stephen took my digital file and brought it to life. By the way, if you provide them with a file, they can produce a professional print for you. I had another job for them to do from scratch. They're really good in helping you select frames and mattes that achieve the look you're going for. At the end of it all, he helped me get my things back into my car without my asking. Walked into the store to get a medium sized print framed. The worker helped me decide on a frame that wasn't in currently in stock, but that he could order. He took my info and told me they'd call me in a couple weeks to come pick it up. Three weeks later and I got no call or update and nearly forgot about it. When I called them to see if it was ready, I was told it wasn't there and hadn't even been ordered. He said he'd put in the order again and that it would be ready in no less than a week.
