Always good food, i definitely think the prices could reflect the size of the sandwiches more but im still gonna pay for it

After a half day drive down Skyline Drive - I needed some lunch on the way home. As I was passing through Madison, VA on U.S. 29 - I noted Piedmont Deli - which I've seen for years - but never visited. So in to Piedmont I went... I ordered their version with an Italian Sub - with mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, and banana peppers - to go. Sub was made to order. They wrap up the sub on a paper plate with a small bag of chips and a dill pickle spear. The sub was really good - hit the spot. I am more of the crusty style sub rolls fan - but Piedmont used a soft sub roll - which actually worked out quite well. Great sub, I would eat here again. There are 3-4 tables to eat in. As I recall, I did not see any restrooms for customers to utilize - so if that is indeed the case - be aware of that. Service was good. Paid with a credit card. #PiedmontDeli read more

I have been coming to this place since I was younger and I have never had any issues, until now. I often call in my orders before getting there. Today, my orders were done incorrectly. I was then told well that's what you said. As I stated, to the employee, this isn't something that's new for me. While on the phone placing the orders I repeatedly stated, the regular 8." I then had to pay for the wrong orders and I paid for the right orders as well because my parents really wanted Piedmont Deli for dinner. Customer service is very important to me because without customers there is no business. My family and friends come to Piedmont Deli on a weekly basis. I am highly upset about this because it could have been handled differently, but instead it wasn't. I didn't even receive a sorry about your order. read more

Stopped by today after seeing and hearing about it for years. My sandwich on rye was good, hubbys Italian sub was on a tiny roll served open face, it was odd and hard to eat. Not many drink choices other than alcohol. Serviceable, wish we had liked it more! Really wanted to like it more. We did like the way they wrapped the sandwiches on paper plates with a small bag of potato chips and 1/4 pickle spear. read more

My friend got the French Bistro and I got the Rose and Slims. Both came with a bag of utz chips and a pickle. The sandwiches were very good, freshly made. Also on offer were potato and macaroni salads and cole slaw. They sold Pepsi products by the bottle, as well as some other fruity drinks and bottled water. The people are friendly and service was quick. I recommend a visit. read more

We ended up getting the sandwiches to go, as there wasn't much seating inside. However, being in the mountains, there were plenty of beautiful places nearby to have a picnic! read more

this place has been a staple of the area for the better part of Four decades, and even under new ownership, granted the young man that owns the business now worked there for many years prior, it is still by far the best deli, the best sandwiches, and just flat out one of the best restaurants in the area..I moved away from the area 3 yrs ago and whenever I'm over that way usually visiting my mom , I still make my trip to Piedmont Deli. I have been many places between where I live now and there, and basically all over and this is by far the best deli I have ever been to. So happy to see this cornerstone of the community still kicking butt . you cannot go by without stopping , I promise you you will regret it. always has been five stars & always will be. Great little sandwich shop enroute to hiking. We drove from NJ and planned to stop somewhere for lunch before reaching our destination of Old Rag Mountain for our hike. This place came up in Madison as a potential so we decided to check it out. First off, it's adorably nestled on a high hill so the views from the parking lot are pretty great. We ordered a 12" turkey sub - nothing fancy. It was served open-faced on a plate with seran-wrap over top of it, not the most ideal way to travel with it - but in their defence, we didn't specifically ask for it wrapped up. The sub was good - bread was italian and fluffy, the turkey was standard. Only complaint is that we asked for oil & vinegar on the sub and it tasted as if they put a 'light' italian dressing on it - it was tangy and kinda gross. Would recommend stopping here if your route is similar to ours, there's not much else in the area for food options, save fast food and gas station fare. read more

I have been getting the chicken salad for 20 years now. Last week it CHANGED into something AWFUL ! I am allergic to ONIONS and it must have had them in it. I ended up with a terrible stomach and headache. BLAAAH ! Please bring back the original so I can order that again. Still gonna go there and order sumpthin' else.... read more

Best place to get a sandwich in the whole town and I'd bet even the surrounding areas. I normally go for a Turkey sub but I decided to try rose & slim's ciabatta. Now that is a damn good sandwich! If you were to ask any local where is the best spot to grab lunch in town, 100% would say Piedmont deli. Dont settle for some gross McDonalds, get over here and have them make you a sandwich. They do not disappoint. Also they give you a free small bag of chips. read more

Stopped here on our way to Graves Lodge. Ordered the club sandwich, and French bistro, with a side of macaroni salad. The lady who helped me at the register was super nice, and the sandwiches were made to order. They also have a variety of cold cut cheeses and meats that you can order to take out as well. Went here for the first time recently. I was impressed. Very cute country style store, with a nice selection of meats, cheeses, imported sausages and such. I ordered a sandwich for lunch, it was very tasty and very cheaply priced. I will be back here again soon! Tip: if you are driving by on route 29, this place is an fast stop for a good sandwich that will save you money, time and is probably better than just about anywhere else you can grab a quick bite on the road. read more

I grew up in New York... I know good delis. Subway is NOT a deli. Piedmont Deli IS a DELI! The sandwiches are piled high with good quality meat... and the combination of meats, condiments and toppings are outstanding! One sandwich not on the menu - but is incredibly delicious is the Rose and Slims Ciabotta... I absolutely DREAM about this sandwich! *wipes drool off keyboard* It's also a great place to go for a yummy desert, incredible salads, delicious cheeses, local wines or fresh sliced Thurman's deli meats and cheeses. It's not a restaurant, though there are three 2-seater café tables that you can use. I highly recommend this place if there are just a couple of diners or for takeout. Wonderful mom and pop shop. When entering the deli there's a calm cozy feeling that comes over you and then you're greeted by a smiling face with a subtle accent. Being from a major metropolitan area that is more so hustle and bustle, fast paced, quick bite eateries leads way to having a greater appreciation for an establishment such as this. My bf and I ordered a 12" steak and cheese and customized it by adding bacon and other of our favorite condiments. Everything we asked for was added and without reservation or items being "overlooked." The portion size was perfect and they weren't selfish or held back on the meat. The prices were also very reasonable... which you will not find a hearty sub/deli in the city comparable. I will definitely return to try other menu items and will recommend this deli to everyone who's in town or passing by. read more

I love this place and go 2-3 times a week. My favorite is their 8inch steak and cheese with lettuce, tomato, mayo and the hot red peppers sauce. My next fav is their turkey 8inch with everything. This place is just friendly and on point with the flavors and taste of their food. If you are passing through or visiting family definitely visit this Deli as their sandwich's rock and I unfortunately am addicted to them....:-) read more

My folks brought me here. From the outside you don't know what to expect, but upon entering you get a sense that this place is good. I was glad to check Yelp after tasting the food and seeing all the five star reviews. It is very good, local meats available, good prices, and a real deli. The first time I was there a very nice lady helped us at the register. The second time, an older lady who was not nearly as friendly but took the orders and ran the register just fine. Beyond that, the food is great and the atmosphere is really nice. They have complimentary drip coffee and tea cookies as you enter the door if you want. Try the Stacked sandwich if you are hungry. 5 slices of bread with great meat between every layer and bacon lettuce tomato and more on top. It's huge, filling, and a great price. I look forward to visiting my folks again and coming back to this deli! read more

Great place to grab sandwiches and eat in or take out on your way to/from a hike or fishing or whatever in the area. Great selection of the usual deli staples, sides, good people working there, and pretty much everything you need for a quality lunch stop. They also have some local goods, rotating art from area artists, coffee, soap, that kind of thing. And some wine. Very solid sandwich shop and great location right off 29 as you come into Madison so easy in/out if you're on your way to/from somewhere. read more

Hits the spot! We stopped here for lunch and the sandwiches were outstanding, all for about $7 a pop. They were served to-go so we could have easily taken them on the road in this beautiful area, but we decided to eat at the nice little tables inside. They also sell bottles of wine and chilled six packs of good beer. We'll be coming back for sure! read more
