This park is absolutely delightful. It sits in the city of Piedmont, which is a bit of unusual city geographically because it is completely encapsulated by Oakland. It's somewhat of an oasis in Oakland. And this park is an oasis within that. The park isn't huge, but it does the job. Love the trails, great with the dog, and every once in a while, they'll have the food trucks. Parking nearby is easy. read more

Piedmont park is approx. 15 acres. It is located in downtown, next to the Community Hall, Piedmont High School and Veteran's building. It has many walking paths that take you to different sections of the park - some make you feel you are in a dense forest. It' well maintained and manicured. Many people are sitting on benches or on the grass; park is full of life - vibrant. There is a children's playground, a Japanese Tea Garden, large lawn areas, a football field, and dog runs. read more

We spent a crisp morning walking throughout the variety of trails in Piedmont Park. There's a dog run, play structure, plenty of bench seating, and many shady areas to explore. The safety railings and paved walkways with extra grooves to prevent slippage, especially in steeper sections. The trails would also make a great place to run as most of the paving is flat. This is definitely a place for repeat returns. read more

As far as parks go, this place is a nice one. It's pretty clean, has a clean bathroom right in the front, and the walking path is pretty easy to stay on. Lots of people walk their dogs here but it's big enough that everyone has their space. The path through the tall trees really felt like Muir Woods minus the extra pretty flat park from the entrance but this place is like a tiny Muir Woods and that's pretty cool since Muir Woods has an entrance fee and this doesn't. Forest bathing is very popular in Japan and it's something I wish I could do daily but this park is pretty convenient to get to. It's a great discovery and it's pretty close to the cute restaurants in Temescal. Right after our morning stroll, we went down to Temescal for ramen and it's so convenient, under 10 minutes away. We went and had an AMAZING time, my dog loved this place and loved that he was able to be off leash for the VERY FIRST TIME. * although I was so afraid lol with him firstly being off leash. Piedmont Park was holding a festival here this past weekend with music, entertainment, and lots of food. Came here for the food fest, but walked away with an astounding appreciation for all this park has to offer... Lots of greenery, layers of foresty area and trails, fields of green grass ideal for picnicking, lovely fountains, creeks, and tiny waterfalls spilling over the rocks, park benches for seating scattered throughout, a cute Japanese Teahouse surrounded by colorful trees, and a little bit of history too (ie. former Piedmont art gallery/museum in the park replaced by the current tennis courts). Also, free street parking wasn't too difficult to find a block away on a Saturday afternoon. read more

Beautiful, spacious, well maintained Piedmont park. First-class experience for all folks and their dogs.

Perhaps because it was so manicured and surrounded by upscale homes, mansions even, it felt less like a park and more like a reasonable facsimile of a small town park. I'm guessing the local residents prefer it that way, and i could easily envision fancy wedding photos taken in front of the Greek-style wall with the urn at the foot of Highland Avenue (photo: https://bit.ly/3KQG1zu). Without a tennis racquet in hand, I felt a bit like a downscale interloper since absolutely no one was sitting on the grass when I was there. There were certainly plenty of attractive knolls with leafy foliage, but I kept to the paved walkways to avoid getting into trouble. Luckily the paved back-and-forth walkways provided enough diversion along a trickling creek. You just need to give the right of way to aggressive poodles and their haughty owners. For additional diversion, there's a Japanese teahouse next to the community center, and fortunately no one mistook me for a waiter. Street parking is free for a couple of hours. This is one nice Park!! The main part of the park is immaculately kept green grass, plenty of people hanging out there relaxing. But, to me, the best part of this park is the paved trail, which is slightly downhill, in a wooded area surrounded by lots of trees and a small river type area. While walking here, I actually forgot where I was for a moment. Now, Piedmont is smack dab in the middle of Oakland, which is another story altogether, because to me, Piedmont is Oakland. But, this park is highly maintained because it is where it is, and this is a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon!! read more

This place is stunning! The bounty of nature, history, and atmosphere make this park a must-visit place. It's great if you want to take your dog off leash to run around, have a peaceful picnic on the large lawns, or just explore some nature. I was entertained and enjoyed my time at Piedmont Park. Maybelline loves being off-leash. A Cardigan Welsh Corgi, she has her own ideas where to go. However, true to the breed, she doesn't stray to far from me. The park has a fair and straight forward dog policy. Pretty much dogs who respond to voice commands can run free. A large do's and don't sign is posted. It's well maintained and a relaxing place for both of us. read more

OK, I have lived in Oakland for about 17 years now and never have I truly explored the different parks of Oakland until now which technically, this is actually Piedmont. This is such a clean and beautiful park and just absolutely loved the serenity of the little trails that have small streaming water and the little informational plaques along with trails. It was quite interesting and seemed a little adventurous considering it was my first time there. Wasn't sure where the trails led as there were multiple ones but it appears that they all lead back to where you started from what I can tell. My 13 year old daughter came with me so she wasn't exactly appreciating how I wanted to explore every trail to see if we missed something. lol Overall, it was a great walk and surrounded by a bunch of beautiful homes.. I will definitely want to have a picnic or something here in the future when this pandemic is over. read more

This is a great park in Piedmont, not Oakland. Just wanted to clarify that this doesn't represent Oakland parks. If you think Oakland parks are similar you will be disappointed. This is a great park located Alameda county and surrounded by the city Oakland. It has paved walkways that snakes through the park and you'll feel like you have entered Eden's Garden. I'd probably say the trails are at most 4 miles in length. There's cute waterfalls and a stream of water flowing through the park. A high school and middle school nearby which would be a hangout spot for kids after school. Nice safe neighborhood park that you won't find the homeless camping at compared to Oakland. read more

This park has the right balance of play, discovery, walk areas so that it never feels crowdy. It is very leafy hence very cool in the summer month and with the fountain running it is is just heavenly. Make your way to the Japanese tea room. Walk up and down the dedicated walk ways. Look up. Today we came for the tucked away play structure the floor is covered with very fine sand. This was a lovely (and popular) park for a picnic. We came on a Saturday and it was really spacious and clean. All the dog owners were friendly, and their pups were too! There are plenty of benches so you'll never lack a place to sit. Even on a sunny day, there are still shaded areas. The side paths near the forested area are pretty narrow. It was tough to walk by if someone was going the opposite way. Maybe it's one-way and we went the wrong direction? There was some construction going on at the high school nearby so the streets were a little more crowded. read more

This is a sweet little park! We heard about this place from our wedding photographer and ended up taking our wedding photos there. The park seems small but there's a lot to explore--a beautiful fountain, Japanese Tea House, some nice grassy areas, a bubbling brook, etc. We were able to take a nice variety of photos here, and have been back on several occasions for a nice leisurely walk. Parking is easy to find in the residential areas nearby. read more

Cute and clean park! I felt safe and at home here. Parking is on the street but I didn't have to drive too far to find a spot. It's a park, playground and hiking trail all in one. Bathrooms are available as well. Really nice place to have a picnic and there was plenty of shade for picnicking. Amazing park, right in the middle of Oakland. Okay, it's in Piedmont, but Piedmont is in Oakland. This park has the best of both worlds. There a beautiful canyon for a quick, exhilarating hike. There's some interesting geology. Look for the outcrops of Oakland Blue-schist. This rock was born on the sea floor thousands of miles to the west. It was carried deep into the earth on a subducting tectonic plate. Then it was brought back up to the Earth's surface and left here in Piedmont Park. read more

This dog-friendly urban oasis is also a delight for their humans as well. A beautiful ravine with a bubbling brook and some small waterfalls run through the center, and paved trails are interlinked up and down the sides of the hills. There are a few benches that are perfect for sitting and reading a chapter from your book while los doggos futilely chase the squirrels that seem to deliberately taunt them. Attended a super casual small wedding outside of the Japanese Tea House located to the right of the main building when you're coming from their parking lot. We didn't even go inside the Tea House. The grounds are beautiful, and I guess it was free. The entire brief ceremony and follow up photos with everyone's cell phone camera were done right on the grounds in front of the Tea House. Maybe that's the way to get married. read more

This park is very, very lovely. My dog Onyx & I visited for the first time today and 5 stars. We came at 11AM and there is a lot to do. Just be aware, the boundaries of the park are not entirely closed. Your dog should be under voice control. We came on a Monday, after the rain, and the beautiful rivers and waterfall areas were full. The green foliage was overflowing! The park is entirely made of cement walk ways and stairs cases- Onyx had so much fun running up and down the pathways with her new friend "Charlie" the beagle. We'll be back! Something odd: I did encounter a runner that questioned if "my dog was okay" and further explained that "most people say that their dogs are okay" but he seemed to trail off...maybe implying he has met aggressive dogs in this park? read more

This is a beautiful park for taking a leisurely stroll along paved walkways, relaxing on a bench in the shade, or enjoying a picnic on the large grassy area. The paved walkways are manageable with a stroller, although it can be slightly inconvenient having to avoid stairs and possibly some of the steeper areas. There are trees everywhere, small creeks, and little waterfalls scattered alongside the paths. The children's playground area has two separate sides, both with sand. One side has a small playground structure with some small slides and climbing bars, and we've often seen bigger kids running around here. The other side has two bucket swings for the little kids and more room to play with sand when we bring our sand toys. Our toddler has fun here and enjoys the scenic walk, but if we're just looking for a playground in Piedmont on a weekend, we prefer going to one of the elementary schools where they have much fancier playground structures. read more

Found this park when I was searching for off-leash dog parks. On my first visit, I wasn't a fan because it wasn't at all what I was expecting. When I think "dog run" I think natural terrain, not concrete trails. But because this park is so convenient, I have since gone back many times with my dog and have fallen in love with this park now that I've gotten used to it. Pros: -- It's like a mini forest but with concrete trails. -- The tall and plentiful trees keep this location nicely shaded, so the temperature is cool. -- Even though it's a small park, you can get a decent workout as some of these trails have a good incline to them and there's a fair amount of stairs to climb, too. -- Because the park is small, it's easy enough for me to make one quick loop and head home and my dog is still plenty happy. Or I can lengthen our stay by taking different trails for additional treks around the park. -- They provide free poop bags! -- Car parking has never been a problem Cons: -- The drop below the trails can be steep so if your dog decides to do his/her business off trail, picking up after your dog can get dicey. Sadly, you'll see poop that doesn't get picked up for this reason. Recommend coaxing your dog to "go potty" in the areas that require a leash prior to walking into the off leash zones. -- If you're looking for a place to throw a ball with your dog, there's no large open field area. (However, that doesn't prevent people from still playing fetch with their dog in the brush or creek). -- On one side of the park, there's tennis courts. Which means a lot of lost tennis balls scattered among the brush. My dog found three one day and each time that she would drop one from her mouth to rest, the ball would go rolling down the trail, or off the trail into the steep brush, which then meant she'd go diving into the brush to chase after it. -- I totally don't mind this bit, but I thought I'd throw it in the con area anyway because I have heard fellow dog walkers grumble about it. On weekdays when the high school football team is practicing in the afternoons, there's loud hip hop music playing from the fields. It's pristine-clean, there is a gorgeous creek for child adventures, and a play area for the less outdoorsy. I fondly recall many a twisted ankle or splinter from climbing on the dark, tar-scented wood of yesteryear's play area, but now it's all sanitized and smooth and safe for the delicate special snowflakes that are today's children. New fountain, also pretty. Climbable trees still exist, if you look. Also has a dog-run area so it's pup-friendly, which always makes a park more awesome. Not dirt paths, paved. Excellent park, and exceptional dog run, located in beautiful Piedmont. Very clean and safe park. They host events like the recent July 4th concert. I love it because of the multi-pathed dog run that runs up and down the hills of the park. Nicely shaded, so the dogs and humans don't get overheated. There's also a creek that runs along the run where the dogs can get muddy and cool off. Also a huge grassy area with a fountain and nice play structure for the kids. There's a Japanese Tea House in the park as well... I don't think they actually serve tea there, just a landmark. The park runs alongside a school with an enormous sports complex.
