My husband and I decided to return to Pieous to eat some pizza. We went for a later lunch and got there at 1:30. We parked easily and walked in. We were able to order right away. We paid, got the buzzer for the table, and picked where we wanted to sit with no issues as there weren't very many people there because it was after the lunch rush. My husband ordered the Pepperoni Pizza and I ordered the Fat Queen. The Pepperoni Pizza was good. The Pepperonis were small and tasty. The Fat Queen was just as good. It comes with Pepperoni, Soppressata, and Italian Sausage. I really liked the flavor of all of the meat in the marinara sauce plus the pizza crust is light and fluffy. Overall Pieous is a great place to get some good pizza. The service and pizza were good. I suggest going at an off time that isn't the typical lunch or dinner time. read more

I am so glad I finally timed it right to try Pieous. Many times prior I tried but they were closed. From what ai was told, evidently this family owned business closes for month at a time so the owners can go back to Italy to vacation. Make note of their hours as well because they are closed in middle of day. 4-8pm I'm the afternoon does not give a big window to choose your dining time. But the restaurant checks all the boxes. Great ambience. Fun indoor and outdoor seating. Tasty food. Big outdoor space for little ones to play. Convenient location. Decent pricing. The salads are served on big trays which makes sharing easy (even when I didn't really want to share my yummy tossed salad with toasted garbanzo beans and Chunks of fresh mozzarella and a super yummy dressing. The pasta and pizza tasted really good. From an owner of a few pizza places in Houston, I was disappointed in the crispness of the dough. I don't care for pizza that can hold its shape when being held. But if I just told myself it was bread instead- I enjoyed it. It was really the pasta and salad for me. We didn't try too much because we were actually surprised it was open. Many friends mentioned the desserts were to die for. Even Guy on DDD mentioned the caramel rolls were what cinnamon rolls wish they could be. He also LOVED the pastrami sandwiches. This is such a great spot for some fresh oven pizza. It comes out the oven right in front of you and it's absolutely delicious. It's one of the few places in Austin that I feel you can find true pizza made from scratch that's being cooked in the oven right in front of you so you can just taste the burnt and crispiness of the crust and it's absolutely delicious. I definitely definitely recommend if you love pizza and want to try some nicer higher-end pizza than just the kind of regular stuff we see a lot the vibe is very chill. Very large portion, served on fresh sourdough bread slices with pickles and optional onions and whole grain mustard. The tiramisu is out of this world to die for. The absolute best. Lazy Sunday afternoon. I'm sure the pizza is great but I can't order anything but the pastrami. This has got to be the BEST smoked meat in the galaxy. Perfectly seasoned, just a hint of smoke, tender and flavorful. It doesn't matter how you roll your pastrami, it's the only thing on the menu you should consider. They have beer on tap and house wines. Order at the counter and they'll bring out your food. Plenty of parking and inside/outside seating. I came here for my 25th birthday dinner with my family and everything about it was just right. The pizza was honestly incredible. You could taste how fresh everything was. The inside of the restaurant is really cute. It has a warm, colorful vibe with fun phrases painted on the walls and playful art that makes the space feel creative but also cozy. One of my favorite parts was the natural lighting. The big windows let in so much sunlight and you could see outside while you eat, which made it feel bright and open. I never realize how much of a pizza fanatic I am until I start leaving reviews and see how many pizza places I've been to. My husband and I stopped in here on our way home from dropping off my mother in Austin and have passed by here many times and finally decided to stop. Oh my goodness I am so glad we did! We got the choppy salad, which is so light and perfect to eat in this Texas heat, it had lots of texture, a light vinaigrette, I added a pinch of salt to really enhance the flavor, but that's just me, my husband said it was fine as it was. We ordered a margarita pizza and added caramelized onions and mushrooms and fresh basil at the end. It was so insanely delicious! The crust is so good and the amount of sauce was perfect. Apparently their pastrami is a pretty big deal so the lady recommended that we order some on the side to taste by itself, as well as on top of the pizza. That pastrami was so good. We have not stopped thinking about it and are desperate to go back! The ambience is very laid-back, they have indoor and outdoor dining with small intimate tables or very long tables for big groups. Some of the tables have board games, which would be perfect for taking your kids out and having some quality time or even amongst friends. I went back to Pieous for lunch the other day and I take back my previous review of their pizza. We ordered the Brussels pizza and added bacon because it sounded unique and I was there with a girlfriend. Both of us wanted to venture towards a vegetable-forward pizza that we'd never be able to share with our husbands. It was delicious! Then we shared a Tiramisu for dessert and two glasses of wine. I think Pieous will now make it's way into our lunch rotation. Service-wise, it is counter service. The girl who rang us up with a smile and was able to split our tab in half. Our food was brought out to us and since we lingered for a bit of conversation, someone came and cleared our table as well. The ambiance seems modern to me. My only suggestion would be to add physcial menus, unless I missed them. As some other reviews have mentioned, they have a pretty extensive menu, but I forgot my glasses so it was challenging for my old eyes. I ended up pulling the menu up on my phone but then felt self-conscious for taking so long to decide and just ordered. The menu is quite extensive so, I started to feel the pressure as people lined up behind us. I only saw the starters and salads and went with the Mixed Leaf salad and a pepperoni pizza. Pro tip, know before you go. There are lots and lots of options.... There are also qr codes on the table, so not sure if ordering tableside is an option. The salad was very basic, but delicious. Their handmade mozzarella was excellent and the mixed greens and tomatoes were nice and fresh. The balsamic dressing was tasty. Very good, but morning spectacular. The pizza was good. The crust edges were nice and chewy, but the pizza was super floppy and, dare I say, slightly soggy. The pepperoni has a nice crunch, but lots of greasiness. The folks here are always super nice and knowledgeable and the space is really casual which is pretty awesome for us folks with younger kids lol. Tonight we ordered: Pastrami - it's always good, no notes. White pizza with added mushrooms - the mushrooms are violently buttery and they give you a wonderful amount. Stopped by here to get some food as we were coming to town for a wedding. Pizza here was yummy. We had 4 adults share 3 pizzas. We got the pesto, house on fire, and Brussels and jam. I used to love Pieous. It was in our regular rotation for family night. Ever since Covid though it's been up and down as a restaurant. And I think I've decided to finally pull the plug on returning. The last two times we went though the pizza was greasy, wet, and not very good. The toppings were spare too. Came here recently as I was in the area. Was interested in their pizza. I thought the name Pieous looked familiar - like maybe it was a food truck in Austin a while back? I wasn't sure so I asked - she said no - but it kept sticking in my head for some reason - so I asked if she was sure? She said yes, this is their location. I was still confused and maybe it's just me - but I believe I had their pizza before but not at this location. Hmmm Ok well now to the food. They have a large menu here. Almost like the Cheesecake Factory of pizza places. They also have sandwiches here, a lot of pastrami offerings. It was tempting but I read quite a few mediocre and inconsistent reviews, so I chose to just stick to their pizza. After some thought I went for the pizza with the prosciutto and arugula and I think mozz shavings. Food came out timely. The pizza was good, but it could of had more cheese in it. Plenty of arugula which made me happy. I liked the taste, pretty straight forward, but I felt like I was eating a pizza that was dominated by too much dough. Hope that makes sense - but I felt like the crust of the pizza was just too large, and they could have extended the ingredients out farther to the edges by at least 1/2 inch. I wasn't too pleased about that. Not sure if they ever thought of this - but I think it would be great if they tossed the arugula in some sort of lemon olive oil vinaigrette and then put that on the pizza instead of undressed greens. I think that would take this to a whole new level. (I've actually had that in Boston and it was phenomenal). Now the dough - that was the main theme for my pizza experience here. A lot of it It's chewy which I like, but it's bland and lacks flavor. And like I said I felt like I was eating a pizza with a lot of bland dough. Now - if that dough was seasoned, or buttered, or flavored, almost like a tasty seasoned breadstick....well I wouldn't be complaining at all. But there was so much dough left, and it was so bland in flavor, I got tired of it and threw a lot of it out as I didn't want to eat plain bread - if that makes sense. So that's why the 3-stars "OK" experience fits here. Now we could have done a 2-star "Could have been better" rating, but I did not feel that was appropriate for Pieous because the quality is pretty solid and better than most other pizza places. Quality goes a long way. But I'm all about utilization, optimization, quality, and giving value to the customer. So I would love to see less of the outer crust dough (which means just give me a half-inch little bit more of sauce and cheese and toppings) - and maybe with the rest of the dough if we can somehow season it, or add some rosemary, or olive oil butter and garlic - oh hell yeah - then I would be more than happy to eat the whole damn pizza and there would be no leftover (bland doughy) crust here. - and no complaints as well! I would just ask for a side of red sauce or really good homemade ranch to dip my leftover seasoned dough please. Now that would be a nice improvement, and some additional revenue as well. Plenty of seating indoors and nice patio area that's lit beautifully. However, they close at 8 even on weekends, which is ridiculous. I can't say enough good things. I met the owner under different circumstances in 2021 and I have to say, he's the kindest and most sincere I've met in Austin and I don't say that often. It's worth it to come knowing that he's involved alone in this labor of love. I didn't know what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised. The service was fast and efficient and the ambiance is so refreshing and fits perfectly in Dripping Springs. There is an astroturf little hill for kids and nice lighting outside. While I was there, a bunch of toddlers who just left ballet were running around. I got the eggplant pizza and it was perfect. Not overdone, but also nice and moist. I don't really like a dry New York style and prefer Chicago, so this was right up my alley and not overly thick, with a nice soupy middle. It's a lot like the best eggplant Parmesan and the sauce is great. I'll be back because I want to try the whole menu, especially the brussel and jam pizza. The service was great, but I don't think this is the pizza place for me. When you walk in, you'll likely stand in a line to order at the counter. I had a hard time selecting which specialty pizza I wanted because they only had a handful of vegetarian options. I really wanted a "white pizza" which has a garlic sauce in place of the usual tomato sauce, but I wasn't a fan of the combos offered. I asked the guy behind the counter if I could create my own, and he was more than happy to help me with that! The problem I found was that they don't have spinach as a topping option... I was shocked, as I usually get spinach on my pizza at basically every other pizza place I've ever been to. This threw me off and was a bit frustrating. I ended up trying a pesto pizza and it wasn't that great. I'd never tried pesto sauce on pizza before, but after this experience, I think it's safe to say that I'm not a fan and won't order anything like that ever again. Giving pieous some love today after I finally made it there this past weekend with family. The reason for the 4 star is due to the odd hours -I have driven by and even stopped in countless times where the restaurant wasn't actually open but finally caught them and it was definitely worth it! I would recommend ordering online prior as usually there's a little wait and there is no where to sit inside as the indoor portion is currently closed (on a chilly day we waited in the car). Staff was friendly and though our order came out a bit late I was still very pleased. We got a salad and several pizzas, all of which were great portion wise. The salad could have fed the four of us for a super reasonable price and the pizzas were decent in size as well. Lacking a little flavor and pretty heavy crust in comparison to the pizza itself but overall the taste was delicious. It's pretty good pizza for Dripping Springs...not great. Just about anywhere in the Northeast, this pizza would be a solid 5 out of 10. Also, $16 - $18 for what is pretty close to a "personal pizza" feels a little on the pricey side. Other menu items feel a little pricey as well for what you get. They used to be so friendly...I loved their original location. These days, the folks in there often seem a little surly and the current location lacks some of the original charm. The pizzas don't seem to be cooked as well as I remember either. Now, the crust is somehow doughy, chewy, soggy AND charred all at the same time. Not exactly sure how they pull that off. With the explosion of growth in Dripping Springs, I'm guessing they have a couple more years at most until Via 313 or some other viable competitor opens a brick and mortar operation nearby. It was good but nothing special. It was a decent drive from where I'm at so not worth another visit for me, but I wasn't disappointed with having tried it. My expectations were a little higher after having heard of it on Diners, Drive ins and dives but it was still good food. read more
