Reviews looked great on Yelp and Google so we thought we'd give it a try. Immediately we were welcomed by David and he was so nice and friendly. He talked to us about how Virginia Furniture has been a family-owned business for over 40 years. He gave us enough space to look around but also gave us all the honest info we needed to make a decision. We decided on a sofa, loveseat, chair, and a 3-piece table set for $2300. It was a great deal. Delivery was scheduled for the next weekend, and they also haul our old furniture out. I even had my pick of a free item as a thank you for our purchase. I chose a silicone oven mitt. I will be coming back in the future, next time we need furniture.

One outbuilding housed some lovely art deco pieces, vintage hats and purses, wing chairs, perfume bottles, and even an antique typewriter. The cute little she shed had kitchenware, vintage aprons, old utensils, some wooden chairs, a tiny table and a few other cool pieces (I bought a cute white deco bookcase from this area). The main building is full of antique furniture, dining sets, china and crystal, tea things, pictures, lamps, mirrors, rugs, jewelry, and even some homemade crafts. I was in "junking" heaven. Upon speaking with the store owner, Emmanuel, he offered to meet me halfway to deliver the item. He drove 2 hours to meet me in Charlottesville. I couldn't believe he offered to do that, but was incredibly pleased and impressed that he was willing to do so. He was very friendly and took the time to tell me about the wood, how it was treated and how to maintain it. The shelf looks incredible (as do all the other custom wood items I see on the website). Quality products, tremendous service. I definitely plan to visit the store to check out other pieces of furniture, but I'm hoping he chooses to open up a second location in southwest Virginia...otherwise it seems I'm going to be spending a fortune in gas :)

Unfortunately, our experience went downhill from there. The power reclining sofa did not work properly, and the phone charging console on the loveseat was also defective. We refused both pieces and expected someone from the store--especially our salesperson--to contact us promptly to discuss the situation and next steps. No one called. After reaching out to the store myself, I was given the customer service phone number. I was assured that someone would keep me updated on the status of my replacement furniture. Instead, I heard absolutely nothing for nearly two weeks. During that entire time, my salesperson never contacted me once. When I finally called customer service again, I was told my replacement furniture would be delivered on July 22 and that I should contact the store to schedule delivery. However, when I called the store on July 22, I was informed that the furniture would not be available for another 30 days. That was the final straw. I immediately requested that my order be canceled and that I receive a full refund. Ironically, about 10 minutes later, someone from customer service finally called to ask why I was canceling my order. I explained that this was the first time anyone had shown genuine concern about the defective furniture or my experience after more than two weeks of silence. I'm extremely disappointed because Havertys promotes five-star customer service, but that was not my experience. Defective products can happen with any company. What truly matters is how the company responds, communicates, and takes care of its customers when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, Havertys failed on every level in that regard. There are too many furniture retailers that value their customers for me to recommend spending your money with a company that showed so little urgency, communication, or concern. I suppose they sort of all felt the same to me so I found something comfortable and picked up a bed frame that had storage drawers. Yay for not having to buy a box spring. Both the bed and bed frame had to be ordered and they set the expectation that delivery would be six weeks and it arrived within three. I wasn't in a rush so I didn't mind that what I wanted had to come from another site. One thing that I liked was that they were offering tax-free purchases when I bought everything.
