I like it. Tables for eating. Lighthouse. Many people will look you in the eyes here and I return the gesture of humanity with a warm smile. At least I hope it is warm. "The City of Long Beach" boat's mid day half day boat does not disappoint. I've been on this boat countless times over the last 10 years and still have memories and photos of those epic trips. Yesterday's was no different with the spur of the moment trip with my sons. Not the El Niño monsters of past trips caught on this boat before but a healthy load nonetheless. Captain stretched it out at the end because we were on the late bass bite so we stayed to load up. And he was strategic in how to use the time we had fishing. Careful not to waste too much time when spots get too slow. Galley has very reasonable prices that are stated on the menu (no need to guess) and the burgers taste amazing. (Get the double cheese burger ) Fish cleaning is very reasonably priced. (There are some boats that charge 3x -5x more for the price for cleaning) No reason not to have all of your fish cleaned here. It looks like everyone yesterday did. All of crew had friendly demeanor and extremely helpful. Not just would come back, but we WILL be back. I've definitely been away too long. read more

Never really had a problem at this landing but my son went fishing last Monday he left a real a newell 322 on the boat now no one seems to know where it is or they claim they haven't seen it the owners of these boats and the landing needs to talk to these deckhands that is just not good sportsmanship hopefully they'll come up with the reel. Avoid This Charter - Unprepared & Misleading I don't typically post negative reviews. Our ¾-day trip was a disaster from the start--no live bait at departure, just a small stash of frozen squid that ran out, forcing another boat to deliver more mid-trip. Live bait didn't appear until the last 30 minutes, clearly leftovers from earlier trips. The website says these trips go to Catalina, yet the crew admitted they haven't gone once all year. In addition, I was charged twice for food and drinks purchased in the galley as they stated it was split on their handwritten sheet. Fished on August 5th, 2023 on the Toronado overnight trip. I brought my 10yr old son with me for his first overnight fishing trip. We arrived at 7pm per the instructions to be there an hour before our scheduled departure time of 8pm. The boat didn't arrive until 830pm from another trip and we didn't get on the boat until after 9pm. Not the best start to the trip. Once we finally boarded the vessel, secured our gear and bed bunks, and paid for our fish bags and jackpot, we went up to the galley to grab a burger. The galley cook told me they didn't do that... they didn't make burgers to order outside of scheduled times. I thought that was really weird. The half day boats in San Diego even do this, cook you food to order as needed. I find it really bizarre that an overnight boat won't cook you something to order, especially when we admitted that we didn't get a chance to eat dinner before arriving at 7pm. Then we found out that the captain was going to chase bluefin tuna, which wasn't something we wanted to chase. We thought we'd be going to San Clemente Island, Catalina or Tanner/ Cortez Banks to fish in known good spots. Instead we spent the entire trip fishing and searching for Bluefin, with not 1 of the 28 anglers on board have even so much as a bite. In between all the random stops for fishing (which was way more riding the boat than actual fishing) I went back to bed for a couple hrs. I was back up at 830am to fish again, my son still sleeping off being sea sick. I was told breakfast already came and went by 830am and I could no longer get eggs or a brkfst burrito, etc. What boat ends breakfast at 8am? Again we spent literal hours driving around and fishing for 5-10 minutes and nothing. No fish, no bites. In between we couldn't order anything to eat. Finally around 1130am the cook guy started cooking burgers to order. We ordered them, the sides included macaroni and potato salad from a giant carton. They were terrible. Burger was not very good. The cook was honestly horrible at customer service and not even what I would call a cook. After 11am or so, the captain, Ray decided to head back home from this massive boat ride and stopped maybe 5-6 more times on tiny little floating kelp paddies letting us fish less than 5 minutes per stop. That was our whole trip. Not 1 person on the boat caught anything, not even the deck hands. I was extremely disappointed in this crew, this captain and the whole experience. I noticed that the boat conveniently did not even post a fish count for August 5th. They don't tell you when they DON'T CATCH FISH. read more

Then we had a really good barracuda, bass bite then he leaves and goes to a spot for 3 hrs and didn't catch shit. Never gauging on this boat. So we really wanted to do sportfishing we never done it before! We're debating between Orange County or Long Beach. As I was reading the reviews they weren't that well so I said you know what let's check the place out. Everyone on the boat were amazing and even people that were fishing. They're very helpful. I do recommend getting there at least an hour early so you know that you have the right fishing rods and you have to have a fishing license and parking! The food on the boat was good. We got a BLT and a hamburger it was good. They also have great selection of snacks and drinks. Make sure to bring cash in the boat. You have to buy a sack for 3.00 that's a must. We didn't do the jackpot but my daughter caught a big red snapper! So proud of her! Anyhow. We will definitely be back! Oh it is a six hour day an hour and a half getting there fishing for about two hours and then an hour and a half going back. But the views and everything were nice! We also got to see an amazing show with the dolphins, but the sea lions kept eating the fish so we had to keep moving spots! Been fishing for 14years, fished every local landing at least once, this one by far, has always been my go-to. 1) Price. We all know the boats all fish the same exact spots. If you can't put two and 2 together to figure out why you see the other boats from the other landings passing by, then I don't know what else to tell you. They are all on the radio talking to each other to get their share for fish counts. So don't give me that BS saying the other landings are better. I still have yet to see another landing beat their prices for trips. 2) Crew. Whether you go on the long range boats, or the short 1/2 day trips, all of them, by far, have an exceptional crew and deckhands. They're always ready to help and ready to get you on the bite. 3) ASK FOR HELP. The crew does a good job at helping if you aren't one of those types that gets butthurt when you make a mistake. It's called fishing, not catching. Takes a lot of practice and experience to understand what to do in situations so if you absolutely need the help, ASK. Don't be that person that complains about not catching anything when you decided to not bring the right gear in the first place. Always, ALWAYS, ASK if you're not sure what to bring or what to expect to better prepare for the trip. Here's everything you'll need; simplified: 1) Bottom Fishing Set-Up: - 7-8ft medium-medium/heavy pole - 65lb Braid and a 2ft. top shot of 20lb.-30lb. Mono or Fluoro. - Size 1, 2, 1/O, 2/O, and 3/O Hooks. Circle hooks are fine too. It's your preference. - 3/4oz and 1oz lead heads - Any variation of white, red, anchovie, sardine, orange plastic swim baits to use with your lead heads. - 8oz, 10oz, and 12oz Torpedo Sinkers. 2) Surface Fishing Set-Ups (2 Rods): - Jig Stick: 9ft or 10ft; your preference. Set it with a 30-40 size casting reel, spinner or conventional, totally up to you; 65lb braid and anywhere between 30-40lb mono or fluoro top shot. Invest in some surface irons, flat falls, colt snipers, and buck tails. Anything shiny/chrome, MINT, Scrambled Egg, Classic Blue and White, this will be your go-to rod ready with a jig to throw. - Flyline Stick: Anywhere from 7ft-10ft; your preference. Recommend something that can at least bend with 40-50lbs+ Rod Rating. 20-40 size casting reel. Again, all preference, can be spinning or conventional it really doesn't matter. I prefer the 20-30 size reels. They are perfect to use for this set up, paired with 65lb braid and 25-40lb mono or fluoro top shot. Totally up to you on what you want to go with here: - Size 1, 2, 4, 1/O, 2/O, 3/O, and 4/O Hooks; circle hooks are fine. Doesn't matter because it's your call on which one you get from the tackle shop. Rule of thumb is to get the small multipack unless you do fish a lot. No need to have 20+ hooks lol. - 1/8oz, 1/4oz, 3/4oz, egg sinkers; for bass fishing or if there's some current that's making it hard for baits to swim down past the seals. - 4oz and 6oz torpedo sinkers 3) FISHING LICENSE; no ifs, ands, or buts. They sell em there at the landing and optional if you want to purchase the annual license VS the day license. 4) Pocket Cash. It's cash only for food, drinks, fish cleaning, Jackpot, and Gunnysacks. (Bring $100 and break it into smaller bills BEFORE coming down. Again, DON'T BE THAT PERSON. Come prepared. 5) Dikes, Pliers, Cutters, whatever you wanna call em, you'll need them. 6) Sunblock 7) Hand Towel(s) for obvious reasons 8) Hand Sanitizer, Hand Wipes, whatever helps you stay clean. 9) For the ladies, heads up, I recommend a little bottle of lysol or disinfecting wipes for the restroom. Crew always very helpful. Wish they could have both cut bail (squid) and live bait, but seems they mostly have cut squid. Quick at cleaning fish, but wish they would gut & head fish and cut off spines on sculpin( other ports do). Always have gotten near limits on half day boat. Food is always great & cold beer. They tend to be a little pushy when it comes to jackpot option with respect to payoff ( they push excepting free ticket over cash payout) (They seem to demand a 25% payback if you except the cash payout, which in not mentioned when you pay-in for the jackpot at beginning of trip). This was my first time deep sea fishing and they "Pier Point Landing" did NOT disappoint by any means. I went out on a 1/2 day boat "City Of Long Beach" and once we stopped that captain put us on a good spot and within 3 minutes I had a nice sand bass and a few more which were delicious!! We moved to another spot later on where he put us on some Sculpin and once again... within minutes the entire boat was hooking up and catching fish!! The deck hands were AWESOME!! They rigged my rod for every setup needed the entire trip and gave me advise and assisted me throughout the whole time we were fishing. I had reserved spots for 10 of my employees, on the day before my trip they called and left a message that the boat was broken. They said to call them by noon to schedule on another day, but less they 2 hours later I got an email that they refunded my payment. One of my guys called to inquire about the trip and they told him the boat was chartered for the day by a private party. It seems since the trip was not full they had someone willing to pay more money so they dumped the 28 people and took the charter money. We went deep sea fishing for the first time, and really enjoyed our experience. Our two boys had a blast! Everyone was so kind and helpful. All the deckhands had so much knowledge and took the time to help get our rods setup and help untangle lines. Earl made some delicious food in the galley and Wyatt got our fish all cleaned. It was wonderful experience. We have never been deep sea fishing before, and got the rental rods, and I was a little nervous when I saw most of the people on our boat were boarding with their own poles and looked like pros, but the deckhands took the time to help get us ready to go and we were fishing with the pros in no time. Bring cash- for tips (seriously, don't be cheap, tip these guys- they work so hard), and for food and drinks on board, and for your fish bag/lottery, and fish cleaning ($2 per fish). As soon as we got on the boat we were greeted by the deckhands and was offered assistance in getting our rods set-up. There were plenty of deckhands on board so you won't have to worry never getting help. The two junior deckhands Justin and Cole we're extremely active and always moving around the boat to check if anyone is in need of assistance. Their fish count was pretty accurate too. I don't think they count every single fish but they give a general estimate of how much fish has been caught which is pretty fair. I know this because they didn't include the Red Snapper my friend caught as well as a couple of White Fish a group next to me caught. Scam beware!!! The crew will try and befriend you while fishing. Come time to clean the fish they will deliberately not tell you the fishing cleaning fee. They will clean all your fish then at the end tell you that you have to pay them before leaving the boat. We had got over 30 fish and not 1 time did they mention that the fee was 3.00 dollars (Per) fish. After making jokes to keep me oblivious while cleaning all my fish he told me I had to pay over 100 dollars if I wanted to leave the boat with the fish i caught. I came with a small group who each also caught 20 plus fish and where completely blind sided when we had to all pay more that what the actual fishing trip cost in just cleaning fees. I mentioned how we felt taken advantage of . He stated well you never asked. I stated well you also never displayed or stated a cleaning fee price. He just shrugged his shoulders and told me i still had to pay either with cash or zelle or i couldn't keep my fish. As a customer I think this is a big key point to bring up. Especially if someone wasn't financially ready. Staff became un friendly as soon as I brought up the concern. Staff on the (Enterprise) Ruined our whole day. No price for cleaning posted anywhere on the fishing boat Nor their website. Almost felt like he just made that price up. Definitely not coming back just because of how taken advantage of we felt. FYI they also advertise on their website the 3/4 trip goes near and around Catalina Island. We went No where near Catalina Island. I started coming here in November 2022 and I have to say it's addicting to come back regardless of what kind of fishing they're doing. From shallow water rockfish/white fishing, to sculpin/sandbass fishing, and now to sculpin/ rock fishing. It's been a great time every time these past 6 or so months. Earl in the galley always cooking up the dankest food and he's always really helpful unhooking fish for you. Bobby always keeping the deck on lock helping out whenever you need it. Currently the boat is doing rock fishing and sculpin fishing. As for rock fishing you want to bring a reel that you comfortably know holds 400 feet of line at least, as well as some 10-12 oz sinkers and some size 2 or size 4 hooks. For sculpin fishing you're going to want to bring some 1-2 oz lead heads as well as 5+ inch soft plastic baits and some 8-10 oz sinkers. Any kind of soft bait will do pretty much, you just want a bigger profile to avoid hooking too many short fish. I personally recommend any variation of a red color bait. It helps out if the bait has a curly tail or appendages like tentacles on them too. The boat will have cut squid for you to bait up your plastics as well. Lack of professionalism and poor customer service of two crew members aboard the Enterprise. On Sunday, 7/3, it was a perfect day for fishing. I had caught the limit of sculpin and a few bonito. Unfortunately, I didn't catch a yellowtail as planned but that's the nature of the game. Towards the end of the trip, I was getting ready to pack and realized several of my gear, hooks and sinkers were missing. Also, the sack #11 assigned, I had placed my fish in was missing as well. I had approached a staff member, a young male (husky, long curly hair and wearing a blue LA Dodger hat) to report my sack and a few of my tackles missing. Young male shrugged his shoulders, replied "eh....go tell some other deckhands." A few seconds later, the cook called out my name to close my tab. I had advised him of my items missing and he replied "well nobody has left the boat yet so go look for it yourself." I then asked if he would help, his response was "I dont have GPS on your belongings." I was appalled at his response and said "I can see you and everyone else don't care." he quickly responded "I care as much as you do, if you dont give a fuck then i dont give a fuck" and laughed. No compassion and sympathy. All I asked was for a little help. At least an attempt would suffice. If the tackles and fishes I caught couldn't be found they could have offered a few fish the staff had caught. I would've paid to have them gutted or fillet. I'm sure someone had accidently grabbed my sack, thinking they had the same number as I. It's very common, I see it all the time on other trips. This is the first time I've been back to Pier Point since the pandemic. Recently, I have been fishing out of 22nd Street Landing or Redondo Special but thought I'd switch it up back to Pier Point. Went out on the 1/2 day on the City of Long Beach. Only bottom fishing for Sculpin and Rockfish but that's okay. I took my kid out for her first time. Crew and galley were helpful. Not too many rod holders so don't bring extra poles if you don't have to. You have to lean your rod against the rail. Lots of novice fishermen including myself so there were some tangles. Tip-call the landing ahead of time and get the recommendation for tackle for the trip. You don't want to be that guy without the proper equipment even if you're renting your rod. I was a bit disappointed that we used cut bait of anchovies, squid and mackerel. Caught plenty of sculpin but threw back 2 for every 1 keeper. Like I said earlier, crew was patient and very helpful. The guy in the galley doing all the cooking was great. I've had good luck at Pierpoint and it's easy to park. read more

This review is for the Enterprise , Captain Andy (I think that was his name) and his crew! It was my first time on the charters and overall it was a really fun experience, and I would definitely go again! First off, the captain I was with does do a lot of driving around. The first 2-3 hours was mostly driving, and the very first couple spots we made were very brief, some with more bites than others made of calico, sculpin and sheep heads. Fish were still biting, but the minute the captain announces he's gonna move, he starts moving!!! He does not wait, so you gotta reel your line in as fast as you can. It was coming towards the last few hours and if the fishing trip ended there, I would've been upset because before starting I was told by the crew we were fishing for yellowtail and surely there were none yet. But the last stop we made surely fulfilled the promise of yellowtail because they came and were biting like crazy!! It was definitely the longest stop of all the ones we made, and the captain even STAYED BACK LONGER than scheduled so everybody could catch some yellowtail. So what I got from him driving around is that HES LOOKIG FOR THE GOOD FISH!!! and if the good fish are there, he will stay! The crew members were also very sweet and helpful each time I needed help, and even offered me tips and reassurance!! For a small fee they will also gut and fillet the fish for you!! So two thumbs up for them !! If you're going for a whole day and are a germaphobe, bring your own food!! The area they serve food is a little messy, but to be honest when you're out there for a whole day in the sun, a hot patty melt is nothing short from satisfying !!! Also it's on a fishing boat so don't expect 5 star quality!! So to sum it up, even though there was a lot more driving around than I expected, I had a great time, met some great fishers, and can't wait to go again!!! If you don't like the idea of driving around most of the time, (I was told) the other captain spends more time in one spot! We went out on the City of Long Beach and it was such a good time. The ship hands and captain were great. I have been on others ships out of San Pedro and those dudes were completely rude and no pricing on the on deck food. These guys were willing to help anytime you needed them within reason because other people needed help as well. Now this is no Disneyland experience, this is real sea fishing with real dangers. As long as you listen to the deck hands and follow instructions you will have a great time. I would recommend kids from the ages of 8 and up. Any younger they will get whinney or sea sick. Bad service. The cook charged me $55 instead of $35. When I pointed it out, he said "Fine, just pay me $35." After, I gave him 2 $20 bills, he wouldn't give me the $5 change. read more

Half day trip AM. Very disappointed, this should be more for kids & families. Wrong, the deck hands kept bumping into my kids, instead of helping on the boat. July 22, 2022 deep sea fishing on the Enterprise to San Pedro Bay (SPB). Plan A was tuna and Catalina. Without anchovies and only sardines for live bait this turned into Plan B "make-the-most-of-it" in SPB. Except: Young deckhands were rude but useful, *nothing* the Captain said over the intercom was intelligible, and the entire party was taken for a fuel stop and 2,000 gallons of diesel for the last 2.5 hours of "fishing". When I asked the skipper if he always brought clients for a fuel stop he said it was my lucky day. Add pretty drunk, sloppy, and profane fishermen - not the best for our young people learning to enjoy a deep sea outing. read more

Took a last minute overnight trip on the Toronado. Booking the trip was easy and user-friendly. Finding parking was super easy. Anglers need to check-in and then purchase a token for $6.00 and park in the Pierpoint parking lot. Their tackle shop is full-loaded with everything you could need. The boat was clean and consisted of 36 bunks, 2 restrooms, plenty of seating and a ship's galley. Each bunk contained a blanket and disposable pillow case. They galley contained two tables and did not have prices listed so it became a guessing game what your tab would be when departing ($5 a beer and $8 fishing cleaning??? Although, I guess it may fluctuate depending on the mood or boat capacity... who knows) Captain Ray was methodical and precise in his estimations from loading the bait tanks to refueling after the trip. He put us on the fish. Once we anchored, we didn't move all day. Throughout the day he was out on deck giving out pointers to anglers fighting fish, gaffing, and washing down the bloody deck (wear fishing boots if you have them). The crew members were friendly, knowledgeable, and ready to help (Santiago, Maggie). The other deckhand however was less than amiable. His lack of experience or intuition cost me a yellow. He was definitely the low man on the totem pole and I could see why. His fileting practices were clumsy and customer service skills sucked. For instance, the Toronado use a greaseboard for anglers to indicate the manner in which they would like their fish cleaned. I fell asleep and afterwards asked my fish to be gutted only. Bottom rung deckhand tells me that they fileted my fish cause I didn't leave a request. Completely unapologetically when common sense would indicate if an angler didn't leave a request, don't touch it. His disregard and attitude spoiled an otherwise excellent and memorable fishing trip. read more

I went full day fishing, I though I was going fishing, this was a major ripoff, these guys took the boat for hours wasting time around, supposedly looking for "Dorado" fish, then said there was none so they kept going for another hour towards catalinas island then stop for 5 minutes to fish and then go then after another hour then another 5 minutes fishing then another hour then 10 minutes fishing and that was all, what kind of ripoff is this? A full day 8 hours and we drop the bait only 30 minutes at the most, come on!!! These guys know what they are doing and they are robbing us on plain sight; don't go there that will rip you off. read more

The trip was on 8/13/22 the Boat's name was City Of Long Beach. The staff was so rude to my grandson this was his first fishing trip for his birthday! When he asked for help they just cut his line and walked away. The staff was drinking beer all day and it showed when it came to helping the fisherman. Very disappointing to hear my grandson says he never wants to go fishing on a boat again because grown men have no patients and are drunk at work. read more

Joe, owner of the Toronado was a wonderful man. Very friendly, interesting, and unique character. On our trip Joe also operated as the cook and provided unusual and delicious dishes. Love that guy. The rest of the crew however was disappointing to interact with. The captain, Ray never came out on the deck to interact with any passenger, and when he did address us over the speaker the speech was so muffled you couldn't hear a word he was saying. Frustrating not to know the game plan. I asked the crew about it and they said "You have to be really close to the microphone to hear it plus Ray always mumbles so yeah we can't hear anything." On two occasions both the deckhands told me they "didn't have their pliers on them" to help unhooking fish. That's one of the main parts of their job how could both of them be so unprepared? Not professional. Also one deckhand was fishing for a lot of the time, and at the end of the day we ran out of bait! Never has that happened on any boat. Never even heard of that happening. If there was a bait shortage why would the deckhands be fishing and using the bait for paying customers? At the end of the trip we passed a HUGE bluefin tuna boil, but could not stop to fish because the bait was gone. Wildly frustrating and some of the passengers were understandably angry. The boat itself was comfortable and they did offer bedding for the overnight portion which was uncommon so appreciated that. But the captain and crew were not helpful and just didn't seem to care very much. Will try other boats first before heading back to pierpoint landing. read more
