Full disclosure, I initially went to buy cupcakes at a neighboring bakery only to find they were closed at 4:30pm. I knew there was another bakery close and drove over to see if you were open. You were, but did not have enough cupcakes to fulfil my group's needs so I shifted to brownies. OMG! They were incredible. I'm thankful my first bakery choice was closed. First things first, why are we charging SO MUCH for some pastries and cookies? I feel like this is a common theme, but it's getting a bit out of control. We stopped by this bakery because we were craving something sweet. We ended up getting a slice of the tres leches to share which was delightful! I'm sure their cakes must be good based on this! I went in for the tres leches cake, there were no more. The lady that served me said there would be some fresh ones in the morning. I ended up purchasing a slice of the tiramisu cake and the chocolate cake. Both of them were disgusting. The tiramisu cake was so dry and it tasted awful. I LOVE this bakery!! Walking in, I am always greeted by the sweet staff. Usually it is an adult lady - maybe she is the owner. I am always assisted very nicely. The store is spacious and bright. Big storefront windows allow in a ton of natural light as the busy city goes by. I always try to pick up different things on each visit to bring to my family who lives nearby. On this visit, I got a variety of sprinkle cookies, a giant brownie, an even bigger cream puff and an apple cider donut. My family loved everything and I love my donut. My partner and his family have been regular patrons to "Pierre's Bakery" for quite some time. The original location was in Logan Square, according to a few pictorial ads on the walls inside their shop. Currently, their city location is near the northeast corner of Chicago and Damen. We had different customized cakes that we ordered for the kids' birthdays. Every time we were there, the FOH lady was very patient and helpful. For the customized cakes, we were able to browse through the store sample catelog, which provided good ideas on the concept and theme. The taste of cake, especially the strawberry cream-filled flavor, has been delectable and meeting the standard in my opinion. Other bakery items, such as tres Leche, flan and macarons, were satisfactory. I remembered trying their seasonal pumpkin donut last year. That turned out to be my favorite. I told myself I might need to stick around this fall to ensure I could get that again! "Pierre's Bakery" is, overall, an unassuming coffeeshop, in the popping West Town neighborhood which has no shortage of hipster and trendy cafes, bars, and restaurants. This place certainly feels nostalgic. Perhaps that is part of their charm that the owner tries to preserve. Went in during the week to order a cake. The lady taking the order was very rude. She was not very helpful and did not make any effort to answer any questions. She was very stoic and not friendly. Also the hours that they advertise are not what the person says that they are: they close early on Saturday at 3 pm and not at 5pm. Decent, pricey and minimum service. We ordered the pecan brownie and the Oreo cupcake with filling. Both were around 6 dollars so definitely pricey. However, the pecan brownie was really good so it was worth it. Although, it wasn't warm it was still soft and rich. It had so much flavor. We were both pleased. The cupcake was a different story. It was dry and lackluster. The filling was hard. The service was rude. The young lady was extremely passive aggressive when we asked for recommendations. My party was Saturday and the Thursday before, I stopped by Pierre's Bakery. I worked with the owner. I let them know I wanted a Lion King themed cake. They didn't have any templates but encouraged me look up Google images for cake design ideas and also to order cake toppers from Amazon. I texted him the image I wanted for my cake. The toppers luckily came in right before we served the cake. He walked me through different sizes and different flavors, and the need for buttercream frosting for the image I was going for. The kids loved it. And everyone complimented on the details and design of the cake. Oh! At pickup, they added a rose for parents for throwing birthday parties for the kids. Nice touch. Wow, one of the best donuts I had was today at Pierre's Bakery. It's a mix between your standard bakery shop and a Mexican bakery. This has got to be the sweet spot of bakeries. They offer breakfast pastries as well as cakes, customizable cookies and lattes to go with it. The seating is spacious with most tables being a circular two top. The woman at the counter was very patient as I ordered. I decided on the chocolate covered donut because one can never go wrong with the cocoa. The price was reasonable as well - $1.50 for one donut. Score! I took a bite and it was sooooo delicious. Seriously one of the best cake donuts I've had. The cake donut itself was actually a cinnamon spiced mix with hints of tres leche. It was perfectly moist with a nice crisp on the outside. The glaze of chocolate was really more of a ganache and it was decadent. I ate this donut slowly so I could savor every bite. If you're in the area I highly recommend stopping by and getting a donut, cookie or whatever suits your fancy. read more

It is strangely decorated with very formal/prom like decor (probably to cater to wedding couples) and sadly not a lot of offerings. Pastries are kept in the back counter, unlabeled, so difficult to ascertain what the buns are without asking about each and every one. There's butter cookies available by the lb, some churros, and some cakes. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving I called Pierres bakery on Chicago Avenue to see what cakes they had available for the holiday. I told them I loved the bunny cake my son brought for Easter. It was a yellow cake with buttercream frosting. She said if I picked it up at 3 she would make and decorate one for me. It was so delicious and everyone loved it. I stopped in Pierre's Bakery two years after moving into the neighborhood, and I didn't feel like I missed out much. Cakes seem to be their specialty based on the window display, and sliced cakes are the first thing you see. There are a few French bistro style tables and chairs for eating in, but generally a lot of empty space. The bakery was also empty on a Sunday morning with limited selection of goods. I purchased 1/2 lb of butter cookies with various fruit flavored jam inside and pecan cookies. The flavors were very subtle so everything tasted the same. I normally have had good experiences at Pierre's but since I've been vegan for the last seven years, I have not had Pierre's, so I do not know how their management works now so I'll just tell you what happened to me. I had to place a quick order for cupcakes for my daughters 12th birthday party (6/25) so I called them Thursday and place the order for 24 cupcakes for Saturday afternoon. I got the cupcakes on time with no issues. since the cups were not vegan I did not partake in any cupcakes but at the end of our event I saw I have more than a dozen cupcakes left and nobody wanted to take cupcakes home. I didn't think too much about it until I spoke to one of my partygoers who told me while at the party her and other guests were discussing how the the cupcakes seem to be missing a vital ingredient and they quickly deduce that it was missing sugar, either in the cake batter or frosting. So therefore the cupcakes were disgusting and I was mortified, I contacted Pierre's and when I explained to her the issue and that more than four people discussed this issue with the missing ingredient she tried to tell me over the phone that she thinks they were mistaken and maybe the frosting didn't have sugar but later when I said that so many people have said the same thing about a vital ingredient missing whether is in the cake batter or frosting, it wasn't good. She said that she'd have management contact me to discuss a refund and no one has contacted, it's been two weeks now. When I showed up to pick the cake I ordered for my birthday the front desk woman was attitudinal, short and immediately accused me of ordering from another location. Just because you're in a pricey neighborhood doesn't mean you should jack up your prices, especially for ho-hum products. Pierre's really disappointed me - twice. I am not going for #3. I am all about giving local businesses a chance, but I almost felt swindled after purchasing a birthday cake here - it wasn't very big, it was average tasting, but cost almost twice what I would have paid elsewhere. Same thing happened the other day when I decided to give them another try - this time I decided to try their breads. I paid a whopping $6 for a small loaf of Asiago bread - instead of walking a block and paying $2 for probably a much bigger loaf of bread at a chain grocery store. What did I get - a really dry loaf of bread, with a chewy (not crispy) crust and almost no cheese or even cheese flavor. I don't mind paying more for quality, I don't mind paying more to local businesses, I get it they need to charge a bit more to stay competitive - but don't give me an inferior product - at least make me believe that you're putting forth some effort to justify charging me that extra 30%. In this day and age of food trucks, bakeries on every corner and chain stores competing for your hard earned dollar, ho hum just isn't going to cut it - at least not with me. read more

In my opinion, Pierre's is a solid bakery chain that does a really good job at a few things. Their churros are awesome, especially the custard filled ones. Their coffee (it may be their own roast) is good too. Most of the little cakes and things I've had are good too. What we were really excited for was the fact that this one offers up some gelato. Now there's no shortage of gelato in our neighborhood. Hell, there are three gelato joints within a block of Pierre's, but you know what those crazy capitalists say: competition brings about better quality (and more choice, and bigger waist lines, and extra chins). The gelato was just OK. It was creamy, but not the creamiest. The flavors were pretty good though, and over all the price is right. Despite Bleeding Heart opening a block away, and Black Dog Gelato also being a block away, I think Pierre's has a place in this 'hood and I'll be back for a little cake, some coffee and more of those custard filled churros! read more

I always have to try new bakeries in the neighborhood, but kind of regret going to Pierre's. The gelato I ordered was not good and the cone was stale. The tres leches cakes on display looked delicious, but probably will never try them unless I'm really craving it. Bleeding heart is still my go-to bakery in the area. We stopped in for dessert. The tres leches was ok. But the eclaire and another thing similar to an eclaire were both stale. To the point that my 3 and 5 yr olds had trouble eating them. That never happens. In fact, it was not that easy to break them in half. Even though we were eating there, we got styrofoam packaging. Why not carry some paper plates? How is this not obvious? We also got 1 very cheap plastic spoon. So I said, "um, there's 4 of us, can we have more spoons?". After eating we asked for some water. They said "we don't have water". How can any restaurant not offer tap water? Surely I am not the first to ask for water. I don't get it. After thinking for a while the girl decided she could grab one of their coffee cups, go back to the kitchen and fill it with water. There you go! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. Got my brothers cake from here and I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. The first time they got the picture wrong AND spelled his name wrong. The blue icing stained everything it touched. THE WORST PART is that the fondant literally rolled off the cake when it was cut. Cut only 3 slices before THE ENTIRE picture slid off.
