Good food, horrible service. The bad service experience started from the moment we arrived: we waited 10 minutes in line before the hostess got around to seating us (we had reservations). That part is fine, you're busy, maybe understaffed, I understand: what irritated me was she then had the gall to say "oh i almost took you off the list, you're late." No, we weren't late, you're slow; it's different.
She seated us and advised us to be patient because they're short staffed. Again, I can understand that, it happens, its fine.
Unfortunately, it seems the hostess (Isabelle) also ended up being our waitress. And while other tables seemed to be getting excellent service from their waiters, we felt like we were forgotten. Had to remind her about drinks we ordered, the ice bucket for the wine never came, barely came to see us, never checked in to see if everything was okay, brought the bill when we asked but took forever to bring the card terminal (she seemed to remember when she noticed me staring at her). Overall terrible service, only second time in my life leaving no tip, something i reserve for the most horrific experiences.
As for the food, the soups (won ton, and a hot and sour) were delicious. The dumplings were good. The main course however (Pad See Ew and Poulet Piment Thai) were quite ordinary, especially for the price and wait time (we arrived at 6:30, we got our main course at 8:30 -- about the time we were thinking of just walking out). The chicken was also overcooked and dry. Very disappointing since this place had come highly recommended.
Adding to the frustration, two tables that arrived after us were served and finished eating before we even got our main course. That is utterly unacceptable. Another reviewer who was there the same night (Melanie L.) said she got a complementary glass of wine for the delay; we didn't get so much as an apology (no, being told "your food is coming" isn't an apology its a status update). And when food finally did come, plates came 5 minutes apart.
To the owners, I suggest you get your act together. If you have a staffing issue, fix it. Streamline your food prep. This is Saint-Sauveur not dive in the crappy part of Montreal. The place has amazing potential, but as it is I cannot recommend it. read more
