I have read a bunch of the reviews here. My experience was not at all what they sound like. I found competent people who knew their jobs, were quite friendly, professional, and welcoming. Assigned clinician kept recording information incorrectly, could not keep track of medications, and suggested a highly functional patient should be institutionalized for a long-term stay, completely disregarding the patient's health status and financial obligations to family. The care rendered at this facility is not patient-centered, and other community mental health clinicians in the area tend to avoid association with Pine Rest due to its ongoing patient complaints and their own interactions. read more

Doesn't discharge on weekends, the food is garbage, they mess up your meal tickets 50% of the time, You have to participate or else you will be forced to stay in your room, some staff don't treat you like real human beings, they monitor what you eat, admission is extremely stressful, wouldn't allow me to carry a comfort item on me, trash safety measures, staff changes too much so it's really hard for someone outside to advocate for you, don't let you outside, no clocks ANYWHERE, made my mental health overall worse. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, Xenophobia, religeous and sexual harassment from other patients is very enabled as well. The resources they give you afterwards are also garbage. This place is living proof of how horrible the American Mental Health system is. I would not recommend at all. read more

I've been receiving services from here for at least four years now. At least, I've been tricked for at least four years now. Decent place to get prescriptions for pills, horrible place for everything else. They all smile, nod, and claim that they understand and care about you, but the moment you actually need them for something other than pills, something like filing psychiatric documentation for disability claiming, they pretend they know nothing about you, nothing at all. They'll make no attempt to get to know you, either; they brush all it off as "therapist stuff" while focusing on pills like a drug dispensary... only to schedule your next meeting(s) as far as half a year away just to get you out of their hair. The psychiatrist didn't know what medication, dose or when he prescribed me my medication. He said it wasn't showing in my chart (from 3 weeks ago, with 3 refill). She took offense to my "black voice" as I kindly attempted to advocate for a client who desperately needs postpartum support. This is the most dehumanizing facility I've EVER been in. It's been nearly a year since I've been in here and still have a panic attack when I get threatened to be out here. They feed us literal POWDERED food as if we're criminals. The only window I was able to look out of was facing a brick wall and a field with dead trees. We were allowed outside for 15 ministered minutes a day where we were stationed in a little square with fake grass and nothing around us, we weren't allowed near the fence as if we were in a camp in the early 1900's. There was nobody there I felt like I could open up to because all they said were that id have to stay longer. They said they'd be holding me (and all else) for 72 hours but that's a lie, they really hold you for a week. I had to BEG to get let out even if I were stable. We weren't allowed to give out any information about ourselves and if we did we'd be stationed somewhere else, nor were we allowed to write letters, and me being me, writing letters is my thing. If we ever wrote a letter it would be taken by a supervisor and read aloud to everyone. The only activity I truly enjoyed was movie time, which we were only allowed two movies per day. When I was there and reached the 72 hour mark, I had so much expectation to be let out that day, when in reality I would have to wait another three days because the person id been waiting to evaluate me hadn't shown up for work until that day. This place is a WASTE OF TIME! Do NOT send your children here. read more

I have horrible social anxiety disorder, general anxiety disorder, depression, and PTSD has been often mentioned in the 12 years of therapy I've had. Pine rest told me if I continued to have emotional responses they would refuse me care.... I'm not sure. I'm not supposed to feel things? Stay away. This place is a nightmare. read more

This place was only good at keeping me alive. I had a panic attack in group one time, and wasn't allowed to participate. I was there for treatment, but they wouldn't even let me participate in the actual therapy parts. They didn't have very many safety measures, which makes it fairly easy to hurt yourself. The staff was nice, except for group leaders. They were nasty and outright rude. Still, this wasn't the worst mental hospital I've been to. I wouldn't recommend this as a first choice, but could definitely be considered if you need to get somewhere quickly. Also, the unit was very clean, although you had zero bathroom privacy. read more

I had to wait 8 months to finally be seen for an ADHD evaluation. I was so excited that my issues were finally going to be solved. I had to fill out probably 1000 questions in multiple questionnaires and then I had my actual testing... Well after 2 hours or so of filling out those forms, I was "not trying hard enough" and "seemed distracted" on the testing. According to a few people who filled out some questionnaires about me/my history, as well as what I filled out, it's a strong indication of ADHD. However, I was also told that because I have the level of education I do, "it's hard to believe the assessments". So, the psychologist said that she's deferring diagnosis, treatment, and any plan at all. So, if you want to waste $1,200 and your time for absolutely nothing, go to Pine Rest. read more

DO NOT under any circumstances disclose your gender identity or sexual orientation. My case manager told my parents all of this information without my permission and without informing me that it would be disclosed and now our relationships are strained at what is quite possibly the worst time in my life. I tried to appeal that this was a breach of information but they told me they are unable to determine if there was a breach of my confidentiality. There was essentially no consequence for them doing this. I don't know what to do legally about this. read more

Honestly, they weren't very nice. There was this one fat lady that was super rude and had no sympathy for my unfortunate situation whatsoever, and I was going crazy having to deal with her. Like a previous review from Dustyn T, I've experienced the same thing during my ADHD testing. It took 8-10 months to get into testing just for the psychologist to deem my test results invalid , and she would not provide the actual test results. I fought my case to redo the testing just to experience the same type of treatment the second time. Psychologist made comments such as, I scored worse than a child, so she doesn't believe I'm trying my best, and I'm not functioning at my "true ability" level even though I explained that I provided my all during these tests. She also made comments that my test results were worse than dementia and traumatic brain injury patients. I believe that based off my age and level of education , the psychologist is judging that my test results isn't not accurate, because she believes that it's not possible to get those kind of results with the level of education I have. I have not provided any evidence that I'm not trying my best during these tests. When it's all said and done I will be at $2,000 in cost just to get treated like I'm lying or not trying my best. read more

Seems this organization does not have competent staff and only exist to take in grants and funds for executives who donnothing to help people in need. A woman with mental problems was sent there several times only to be released time and again with no improvements. Seems group session is a joke as i have been told patients know the drill and say want the "counselors" want to hear. I saw how painful my wife's experience had been with this specific facility and her caregiver Dr. Khan. From what she told me is that he wasn't a good listener regarding a painful and dramatic life event. In fact, she told me that Dr. Khan had shamed her about this event instead of sitting with her in her pain. Further, she said that often when she was speaking and her words were hard to find, he would finish her sentences for her that betrayed her experience. I went with her to her appointments and these were the things she communicated to me afterward. Finally, billing and application of payment seems unorganized and not always current. I've received bills for services that had been paid. The setting for the facility is indeed restful to me and in a woody area with many pines. I often went for a walk while waiting. read more

Absolutely horrible treatment, went here and wanted to die more once I left. The staff was horrible to us and yelled at us for the littlest things. This place costs about 1,000+ dollars per night with horrible food, service and treatment. They kept me there for longer then I needed just to make money off of my parents conscience and my situation. Keep in mind that we were alone for 12 hours in a random hospital where the staff were the only people we could go to yet they were the ones that cared the least about us. Shame on this place for using our mental illness and struggles to rob us of our money, if they care so much about our well being then they should make this crappy service cheaper. Johanna the nurse on the adolescent unit continued to ignore my medication instructions and gave me random medication multiple nights in a row after my psychiatrist told her multiple times then she did not give me my medication from home as i was being discharged. read more

Seems very fraudulent. Scam. I know of someone admitted for self harm yet u can plainly see it was a cry for attention & not anything other. But they have had this patient in there 3 weeks already. No communication. Little contact. It appears they want patients there to get insurance money and not truly help them. Nor recognize the source problems rather to make money. This patient is mentally unwell yet is very manipulative and just wanting attention and they seem not to be able to discern. Also I witnessed a young boy around age 8 screaming... let me go... I want my mommy... pounding on the pediatric door facility. He kept saying he wanted out and let him go and when can he go home... it's been forever. He was crying, shaking & pounding on the door... then said help me. No one helped him. The staff didn't seem to care. It was so odd and upsetting... I felt like crying just witnessing it. Very strange atmosphere. Very little information. Kids look dazed. No one really to get answers from. Kids look depressed and stating things like I've been here forever and no idea if I'll ever get out. Scary. I do not believe that mental institution is good or truly caring. It's a money making scheme. I definitely didn't think anything like that or know of such things... until I visited this place... visiting someone's child in support of them... and I was shocked it's the most cold place ever. I'd never send anyone I know there... now that I KNOW! I'm convinced this hospital... like many... are misdiagnosing or exaggerating conditions and such to keep patients there as long as possible to get as much money as possible for the insurance companies yet also the ones paying the bill. Don't go... you'll be broke... no doubt. All I've seen, heard, witnessed... leads to insurance fraud. read more

having to deal with Pine Rest has made my mental health worse off than it was before I started going. i was transferred THREE times just trying to get a simple prescription question answered, and then was transferred to an answering service where no one got back to me. It's always a process getting prescriptions refilled and the whole system is just really disorganized. I have more anxiety now than I did before just because their system is a nightmare. read more

Pine Rest is not in the business of helping children with mental illness. My niece was there for a 1 1/2 years and never got better, in fact she got worse. She continued to exhibit the same behaviors of self harm. She was found dead on Sunday, January 8th 2016, s he did not kill herself. They are suppose to have bed checks every hour, she died in the early hours between 12-1 am, they found her in the morning between 6-7 am, when they tried to wake her for meds. I would not send my loved one to this facility. The State is investigating. This is the problem when we privatize health care, loved ones suffer. read more

I met with these people, and thy all seemed nice and competent. 2 Weeks later they send me the post pathetic joke of letter that I have ever read in my life. It wasn't just that it was completely unprofessional (filled with typos, and routinely referred to me as "her" when I am and always have been a man), it was also filled with half truths, miscommunications, exaggerations, and out right LIES, showing me that the man I was working with was either dishonest or a complete fool. I received an incorrect diagnosis about 2 years ago during my week long stay. The diagnosis took about 10 minutes. They kept me a week, and I had to pay a large amount out of pocket. I recently had to return to get a psych review for my divorce (as the previous diagnosis is incorrect). The scheduling got screwed up, twice. I walked in on the day I was TOLD to be there, and upon arriving they said I wasn't in the system. They were able to book me 3 days later, but for some reason I couldn't schedule using my insurance, so I was forced to pay 1100 out of pocket, just as a retainer. This place is a joke. There's an assumption, being a patient, that open communication is integral and striven for on the part of the institution. The adage of what ASSuming does holds true in this case. My disappointment and contempt for this place have grown substantially, and it's all based on personal experience. I highly recommend finding a different place to go. read more

*In competent business practices ( repeatedly do not update your contact info which gets revealed for follow communication or billing issues and is a minimum business practice everyone has come to expect) * billing department is incompetent ( failure to submit documents after repeated request from insurance company causing the bill to be unpaid. Then they submit the delinquent bill to collections and since they don't update their patient contact info despite you providing it everytime you have commo with them you will find out the problem when you apply for a loan or the collection agency finds you and it's too late it's on your credit report) * Their business model appears as though the staff falls under their umbrella but really each doctor decides what insurance they want. Most of their non emergency services and professional staff do not accept our active duty military service members insurance TRICARE... clearly because it doesn't pay as well as others. Who needs psych help more than our veterans and active duty personnel?! Pure profit disguised using the "Christian title" * I would recommend going out of state for care if you can. I wish I could put zero stars for this awful place. They absolutely ruined my 17 year old daughter. She was admitted twice last year (2018). She went in newly diagnosed as Bipolar 2, severe depression. She only spiraled downward while she was in Pine Rest. She learned how to self harm while she was here, and proceeds to have an issue with this still. She turned into a very dark child while she was here. She has never, ever been this way before. Constantly talking about and thinking about suicide. She was beginning to have some questions as far as our family's faith, and Pine Rest chose to get in her head and direct her to a different religion. They had her meeting with a chaplain and the chaplain was allowed to meet with her during her psychiatrist appointments. As a minor, we should've been notified about this and never gave permission for this. Needless to say, we filed a report and signed her out as soon as we learned this. I had concerns about the medications, her psychiatrist wouldn't listen to me and just wanted to add more drugs. That didn't work. This hospital just ruined my daughter, on every level. She was hospitalized once more after here, we refused for her to go back so she went to Forest View. Highly recommend them! But too much damage was done. Forest view switched her meds thankfully and we saw improvement, but the terrible seeds that were planted at PR have taken root. My daughter was convinced she could do things on her own and left home, with nothing, and is now living in a basement somewhere. Pine Rest brainwashed her into doing whatever she needed to do to be happy, follow your heart... Well, she followed her heart and is in a terrible place now. Thank you very much Pine Rest, for playing a part in ruining our family and our daughter, who we worked so hard to save. read more

Terrible attitude from everyone, whenever I have gone there they seem more interested in talking to their employees about their kids or life than doing their actual job! Customer service is terrible. Prices are terrible. They really don't give a shit about the patients and seem to actually even detest them. I was a resident back in 1999-2001 I think. Everyone had their days and moments. Some wanted help while others didn't. You make the choice to change, you have to want help, if you don't want help, this place is not for you. You have to be willing to accept help and be willing to change your behavior. I met some nice friends while I was there. The staff was caring, made fun activities for us, and had some great times even though I was a handful. read more

Apparently, I've been trying in good faith to rectify the "service" by asking for a supervisor or billing manager whom I've left messages for, but no return calls. We admitted our child to the impatient program. Right away the people were judge mental and bitchy. Without asking they cut every little piece or string and thread from my child's clothes leaving holes. My child returned home starving due to their trash food. He said he was given the choice of a pb&j and that's what he lived off of for two weeks. (lunch and dinner) I witnessed while visiting a little six year old girl being held down by eight workers and then dragged to a secured hall by her arms. I was frightened, my heart dropped. Later that night my child told me they use darts to put the kids to sleep. At first I thought he was joking but I ended up asking his doctor and she confirmed they have this skill for dealing with children. My child came home so worn out and tired he said they were given a camping mat to sleep on and every 10/15 minuets they would shine bright flashlights in the children's face to make sure they were alive. My child came home with new slang and the doctor gave him new ideas to self harm himself. I was outraged I spent over $1000 each day for my child to be tortured and came home worse then before we admitted him. It seems that prison would be luxurious compared to this facility. read more
