Our local school board had gave up on my son, which took me to the internet to research schools that would best suit his needs. There were several that I found, and dug deeper into those schools to finally choose Pinehurst as the best fit for him. The discipline, structure and programming that the principal described in detail to me was what my son needed. Nothing was ever hidden from me. He is now in his 3rd year there and for very obvious reasons to me I hope he will be there for the next 3 years. He spent his first year battling the program, staff and everything involved because he wasn't happy to be sent to a boarding school and they never gave up or gave in to him like the public system had. The second year he settled into the school and we watched his academics skyrocket. Although he did continue to have challenging behaviours, (he faced the natural consequences before him as anyone should) and the school and I stayed united and worked closely together to ensure everything was consistent across the board with him and he was not able to play one against the other. For the first time in his life, he was excited to head back to school this year because he knew the staff, routines, and programming were all a comfortable fit for him. Miracles don't happen overnight, it takes time and patience to get these kids on the right path in life. This is a very specialised school for kids who don't fit the regular system, and if a parent is seeking this school out its with good reason which means its up to the parents/school to work together and it needs to be taken with a grain of salt the feedback from your child.
