Pingo Dolce is a supermarket chain in Portugal. The location of this grocery store was close to our hotel. I didn't find much in terms of candy/ snacks made in Portugal, but there are a lot of different ones from other European counties. read more

Came here to get piripiri hot sauce for home and as gifts, there were different heat levels. They also have different types of canned tuna, octopus, and sardines. Some tuna with olive oil were on sale for less than 1€. I don't know if they are the same quality as the canned fish shops but it's much cheaper than the 16€ that they charge in the specialty shops! read more

Stayed oin a hotel nearby and find this suppermarket very convenient for our needs. As travelers we do not hve need of many of their offerins, though we like to get a few things: - some fruits, as restaurant food tend to be meat heavy. - water, as they usually aren't free and sometimes cost more than beer and wine in restaurants, its easy to get dehydrated - fresh squeezed orange juice - they have a machine for self service just like at Whole Foods back home, at a fractio of the price - wine and Iberico ham, for either enjoying at the hotel or taking home as souvenirs - in the bakery dept next to the breads, there's a case with Portuguese specialties, great for taking home as souvenirs and way more popular than keu chains and fridge magnets. Producst such as Ovos Moles, chocolate salami and more. This supermarket also has a cafe area, with sushi, bakery and regular Portuguese items. Remember to BYOB - bring your oown bag - else you'll be charged for their bags. read more

I'm really disappointed with the lady assigned at fish area here tonight. I got a number and stood in line to buy fish, but the lady still prioritizes the last customer who came in. This happened not just once, but three times. But now I'm really going to review it because it's not funny. There's a racist way of choosing who to serve and I notice that her prioritizes only her own race. That's very unfair to the buyers. What's the point of a number if it's not followed? I hope you take action on that because it's really frustrating, especially when you're waiting for so long for your number to be called out but someone else is prioritized. read more

Good combo of food and beverage selections at decent prices. Everything from pasteis di nata to full deli and meat selections. Wide range of beverages as well with reasonably priced wines and soft drinks. read more

Stayed at the Sheraton Lisboa. This grocery store was a quick walk to get fresh fruit and wine. Some pre made salads and sandwiches as well as many fruits and nuts. Great for traveler snacks and drinks. They also have a small cafeteria attached for dine in/take away food. Regular grocery store as well. We thought the prices we good. read more

Pingo Doce is your standard national grocery store chain. For fellow Americans, I'd compare this to a compact Kroger or Safeway (emphasis on "compact"). Prices are on par for Portugal, so you can easily walk out of here with dinner for two and a bottle of wine for under 15€. Visiting from Hamburg, that's totally insane. However, it's pretty standard for Portugal and Spain. What makes this a 2-star experience? The limited selection, poor layout, and super slow/unfriendly checkout process. The selection is far more limited compared to El Corte Inglés a few blocks away, but it's adequate for a short stay. Fish offerings leave a lot to be desired (i.e., I wouldn't buy anything here), and the butcher counter appears to get backed up really quickly. The layout doesn't handle more than one person per aisle, so you keep running into other people or their baskets. The staff also seems to think mopping the floors during rush hours improves the experience somehow. I've seen this at two Pingo Doce locations, so I'm guessing this is a corporate tradition. Lastly, checking out here takes longer than actually shopping. They have 4 cashiers at top capacity, which completely get swamped by what appears to be the entire city coming here. The cashiers also give you that lovely "I hate my job, why are you here?" vibe. Would I come here again when visiting? Probably not. El Corte Inglés is certainly more expensive, but you can get in/out faster and don't feel like you'll have to fight an old Portuguese lady for the last pork cutlet. Would I shop here if I lived in Lisbon? Possibly if I could find a non-rush hour time where shopping was somewhat enjoyable. read more

Reasonable food items and drinks. They have their own products which are comparable to branded ones and are sold out easily. 1.5 L water bottle for 0.16 euros!!!!! Cant get better! read more
