It ended up being just our group of four, so it…read morewas a private tour of three good, but very different, places to get tapas...with vino included, of course. 1. La Reina Friendly Restaurant The first was a new, modern tapas place in the heart of downtown with pinchos tapas (where you select your own and save the toothpick to pay). My favorite choice was a salmon topped bread. It's also right across from a Las Fritas - a store of only French Fries - which looked amazing. 2. El Botijo The second was a traditional place with a dive bar feel. They served a dessert wine as well that you drank out of a super cool glass "Porron" pouring pitcher (you can buy your own version at Simple for €5,50 BTW). Here we ate delicious 3. Las Cuevas The third location was one we had already been to, but was by far my favorite. This traditional tapas place has a cool castle feeling and large outdoor seating section...and the most amazing fried brie pieces topped with a fruit jelly. SO delicious. They also have a huge menu of tapas for regular visitors and served a delicious dessert wine as well. The tour was great and our guide did a lovely job explaining Spanish traditions and the different types of tapas you can find in the city. He was also more than happy to help us with our random Spanish dialect questions and gave the tour in English as our Spanish is still in progress. I definitely recommend this tour for newbies to Valencia and repeat visitors alike. It's a great way to start your trip to the city.

He picked us up at Plaça de la Verge and drove us to the first stop, Murviedro - Bodega Historica. The drive was very enjoyable and went by quick in a clean, comfortable vehicle. On the drive he was friendly and knolwedgeable communicating in perfect English about Valencia in general and started giving basic background about wine in Spain. The history and touring of the wine caves was interesting, and the wine tasting that followed was amazing with delcious wines and Johan's commentary. We purchased several wine bottles and were given two as gifts to bring home, as well as the glasses we used for tasting. We then took a quick stroll through the old town before contuning on our journey to Bodega Vera de Estenas. Here Johan showed us the grapes and vines in the field, the entire production set up, then more wine tasting. We had a nice drive back to Valencia talking more with Johan and learning about life in Spain. We handed Johan the money, and went on our way. Johan reached out and said we had overpaid (we misunderstood the cost in an email) and met us later that evening to return the overpayment! We would highly recommend this tour with Johan. His knowledge and the amazing wine was the highlight of our trip. Johan was happy to answer all our questions from random Valencia facts, the differences in wine regions, and even how Cava is made. In fact, we learned so much from our time with him that we were able to understand some of an all spoken in Spanish winery tour we took a few days later! I would definitely recommend you snap up Johan for your time in Valencia if you're into wine.

I stumbled upon this store late at night. All I saw was a shiny, clean, white store with a huge…read moredisplay of beer. I walked in and discovered a huge array of Valencian craft beer. I never knew Valencia had craft beer. They also carry craft beer from Belgium, Armenia, and Czech to name a few. I got a couple recommendations from the kind store owner and selected a couple to take back to the States. Some interesting ones I saw were beer made with sea water and others made with honey and rosemary. I was really impressed with the cheap bottle prices and how well the entire store was organized. I highly recommend this store even if it's just to browse.

If you're a beer lover visiting Valencia, you must stop here once at least to look around…read more This store/selection is small by American standards but large by Valencian ones! There are beers from Europe, US, and of course local options. Spanish cider and mead too. The Euro beers are mostly standards you can find in US stores but at a bit better prices; most standard bottles are between 2-4€ each, even things like Rochefort 8 that go for $6+ in the US cities. For less available Euro beers, also check out the stall in el Mercado Central. This location is easy to find if you go to the Torres Serranos and walk into the old city on Calle Serrano; it's right there. I would like to see more Spanish beers from outside Valencia, but I think that is mainly due to a lack of distribution infrastructure, so craft beer is very localized generally. If you have time, I advise going to the beer bars to try Valencian beers fresh for more or less the same price. If not, this is a good place to score take home bottles.
