Went here for supper one night. It has a good cool vibe. Menu has a lot of diverse interesting items including some items for vegans. Good cocktail and craft beer selection as well. We orded the Pineapple Jam and Ham and The Brah for pizza. I also ordered the Jungle Balls as an appitizer. We also ordered some cocktails. Service was spotty and slow. Pizza was okay. Totally found the pineapple jam and ham way too sweet. Crusts for both were good. The Brah was decent. It seems like it is one of those places where the food when being described sound better than when actually on the plate. The Jungle Balls we not good in texture and fell apart easily, however, the flavours were delicous in them. Pizza was pretty expensive compared to other places. I've been on a weight loss diet for 12 weeks, so I found myself ravenous for a pizza. I searched some pizza menus for a cheeseburger pizza and found the perfect one at Pink Gorilla. The "Royale With Cheese". I placed my order via phone. I was told 15 minutes. Pick up is in the back. There is a large patio area out there. One couple found the shady spot. During this heat-wave , I was not going to eat outdoors. I chose a regular crust. As I suspected, it was doughy. It got pretty tough near the end of my nosh. The toppings were great. Ground beef, crumbly bacon, diced tomatoes, mozzarella, cheddar cheese, mayo, ketchup and mustard. A large slice of sweet, juicy pickle topped the affair. I'll probably order again. Maybe eat a thin crust hot out of the oven next time. Pick up orders are 25%off. Quite attractive. read more

This place is one of the funkiest pizza places I have ever been to. Their pizza flavor combinations are different from all the other pizza places it's nice to have a gem pop out of the over saturated pizza culture in Edmonton. The Korean Stir Fry pizza was delicious! Second time eating here. Went once when it was just opened and it was definitely better then than it is now. I get their shtick is unusual pizza flavours/toppings but that only works if it tastes good.. and they didn't. Tried the Neymar, taco and ham and cheese. We all politely said they were good when asked but they WERE NOT. Very few toppings, I tasted NO marinated meat or blue cheese on the Neymar. And the way they added the chimicurri in a squeeze bottle was very unappealing but My niece had the taco and the brown goop that came out of the squeeze bottle looked VERY disturbing!! The corn on the taco pizza tasted old and almost no ham on the ham and pineapple. We also order garlic knots and some of them were raw. And the service is soooo slow. Both times there was only 2 other people in there. Our pizza came out 10-15 minutes apart- very strange!!! This place is just so cool outside and inside. It's beyond me why they can't figure out why the place is always empty, if the food was good people would come, simple as that. It's good, but it's not amazing. We ordered the pineapple and jam pizza as well as 2 orders of wings ("special flavour" which was garlic soy that day and the house barbecue flavour). The pizza is pretty good, and the dough reminds me of the Italian-style fermented dough. It's thin crust and the toppings don't slip off, like at some pizza places. They're also quite generous with the meat. They offer some unique flavours like ginger beef and bulgogi so if you're in for an adventure, one of those options might appeal to you. However, at $33 for a 16", it's not cheap for a pizza. While the wing flavours are delicious and the house barbecue sauce being the bomb, the wings were quite over cooked, making the meat incredibly dry. I probably wouldn't order them again but I would honestly love to get some of that barbecue sauce on the side, it's delicious! Overall, while I wasn't completely wow'd by Pink Gorilla, their menu is pretty dang creative and quite appealing. If you're down to spend a little bit more on some unique pizza, I would definitely recommend this place. However, skip the wings. read more

This restaurant makes some of the most interesting pizza. We tried two pies: the gingered beef one and the one that has octopus on it (purple pirate eater). We also tried two different dips: labneh & honey and the tahini maple one. We later ordered some pizza bread to dip in the dips. All in all it was a good meal. The restaurant itself is clean and open with lots of seating. Staff were helpful and patient with us and seemed to deal well with disappointed former ParkAllen Restaurant clients too. So I had been to Local Omnivore and was blown away by what they are doing, then while we are there, my buddy tells me the owners just opened a pizza joint...yes please! This. Place. Rocks. We had their signature pizza which is basically an amazing Ruben sandwich ON A PIZZA!!! Holy everything, Batman! Met one of the owners Ryan. Cool cat, great vibe and down to earth. I was a bit sad when I heard that The Park Allen Restaurant was closed. I honestly only went there once for dinner, but the pizza was great! I would go in to pick up a pizza every few months. The place was very dark and dated. The clients were older. I would grab my pizza to go and take it somewhere less depressing to eat. But, news spread on Facebook that the Pink Gorilla was taking over Park Allen's space. The Pink Gorilla? We soon figured out that the Pink Gorilla was product of the Local Omnivore creators. The Local Omnivore is a favourite of my friends and I. Now I was more excited than sad! The Pink Gorilla opened this weekend. We went for Sunday lunch. We were greeted by a newly renovated space and a friendly staff. The walls are white and the restaurant feels more vibrant. The menu offers pizza and calzones. It was a bit early to try the craft beers, but we opted for two pizzas. I ordered the pink gorilla and my friend a triple pepperoni. They each came with a choice of sauce. The restaurant was pretty quiet. Only a few tables occupied. The staff kept refilling our water glasses and coming to chat. The chef came out and greeted each customer when he had the chance. Our pizzas arrived and were very flavourful. I actually liked the mustard on my pizza. Weird, but good. My friend was impressed with her pepperoni. The pies are a good size for one, cut Isquares and loaded with toppings. The crust is crispy, and just the right thickness. There is a discount for take-out pizza. So, I probably will take advantage of that at some point. But, I really like the new inviting and friendly vibe of the restaurant. So, I'll return for both take-out and dine-in. Can't wait to introduce friends to the Pink Gorilla! We've been back! And the pizza has only gotten better! The Ginger Beef and Double Bacon are great! Be warned, the ginger beef is spicy! I just had one of their Royale Calzones with Cheese. It was edible, but that's about all it was. First of all, having a calzone with cheese sauce and real cheese is redundant and unnecessary. In theory it sounded good, in practice it just makes a big mess. And the pickles....wow. The slices were huge, they had to be at least twice as thick as normal pickles. 1 or 2 at the most of these in different areas of the calzone are plenty. I counted at least 4. Newsflash guys, pickles are supposed to be a topping, not the main event. If I wanted a pickle calzone I would've ordered one. Cut back on the pickles, in fact it wouldn't be a bad thing if you cut them out altogether, that's a weird item to put in a calzone. At least the dough was really good, and obviously of homemade quality. That's what kept this thing from being 1 star. The hamburger and bacon were adequate, but nothing special, and it seemed way too much like these featured items were competing for attention with the pickles. If you're going to put bacon bits and hamburger in a calzone, then put it there and stop stacking it with pickles. Did I mention there were way too many pickles in this thing? And the menu is like pizza out of bizarro world. Why would I want pineapple jam on a pizza? That belongs on a sandwich, not a pizza. Regular pineapple is fine, pineapple jam is a sweet flavor and sweet doesn't belong on a pizza. Way too much pandering to the vegan and vegetarian crowd. Pink Gorilla Pizzeria? After Happy Garden closed, I was so sad not to have a good local restaurant in my neighbourhood. Then Pink Gorilla opened, and man, it is amazing. It is also a problem, because I have been eating there way too much. I've tried a few of their pizzas now, and the crust is absolutely top notch: crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. The flavours are unusual but really good. The pineapple jam & ham is a really lovely twist on the classic hawaiian -- I would never have considered putting creme fraiche and mint on pineapple pizza, but it actually works. For $20 a pizza, it's a bit more expensive than Panago but so much better. Plus, you get 25% off if you order takeaway. I like to go, order a beer to stay and drink it while I wait for my pizza to be done. read more

Fist time I ordered from here i though it was too good to be true. A real fermented pizza dough made the real Italian way.... And then i ordered the 2nd time and cr@p....same shameful pizza crust as at every other fly by night pizza place in alberta.... I will never order pizza from here again. I spent over $75 to get cheap made dough with a very cheap amount of toppings. Like triple pepperoni? Thats the same as regular pepperoni anywhere else... Thought we'd give it a try (std delivery) and man if they weren't damn expensive, $23 each for a 8-9 inch pizza?! Really?! Got to be kidding me. I'll happily pay for quality and taste, no problem. If these pizzas knocked my socks off I wouldnt balk at the preposterous prices but as it were they did not, not even close, mediocre at best. Stumbled in here my fluke actually on my way home from whyte ave. The Bright purple signage really caught my eye and I was curious. The menu is daunting if you were someone like me ( I only stuck to plain pepperoni pizza my whole life). But they had pizzas with all types of different topping combinations that I was a but hesitant about... I had the pineapple jam pizza, this one seemed the scariest to me since at that time u had NEVER had pineapple on my pizza. My pizza came accompanied with my choice of sauce, they have donair, ranch, and... butter chicken sauce... which I picked. The pizza was out quickly and was very hot, cooked to perfection. I come back every Friday for a pizza! I can't rave enough about this place. From the amazing pizza, to the even more amazing staff. I love it! read more

I'll be the first to admit that I was skeptical when the Pink Gorilla moved into the Park Allen Restaurant's former location. I was a big fan of Park Allen's pizza and I was genuinely sad when they closed. My partner and I are normally vegetarian but have have gone vegan for the month of January (veganuary) and assumed we would have to wait until the month was done to check this place out. However, we were pleasantly surprised to see not one but TWO vegan pizzas on the menu. We ended up grabbing a couple craft beer cans and the Curried Crispy Chickpea pizza. O.M.G! I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the best vegan pizza I've ever had (and I've had A LOT of vegan pizza). We had ordered a large assuming there would be leftovers for lunch and ended up devouring the whole thing. My only issue is that while I like the look of cutting the pizza into squares, this particular pizza was very messy. By the end of the meal my hands were covered in garlic oil and the tahini maple sauce. Based on food alone, I would give Pink Gorilla a solid 5 stars. I can't wait to come back and try their other vegan option. However, I am going to lower it to 4 for now as the atmosphere is severely lacking. There are a couple cool touches like the use of church pews for benches but the stark, blank, white walls paired with neon lighting has an odd effect. First I'll start with the restaurant it's self. Staff was very friendly and somewhat knowledgeable when it came to the menu. Willing to give advice on what to order when asked for recommendations, which was helpful. Decor...meh. Getting kinda tired of the whole graffiti look, but I won't hold it against them, it's the theme of the year I guess. There was lots of seating and tables, bathrooms could use a bit of a touch up, but all in all good enough to stay for a bite to eat. Drink line up. Lots of different local beers which I am a big fan of. Got the 20oz pint and the waitress filled it right to the rim of the cup, awesome job keep it up. The Halifax pizza was not bad, the dough was pretty tender and crispy. The topping was sub-par, could have been better. For 23 bucks it is a bit expensive. Hip hip hooray for another pizza joint! Pink Gorilla is a great addition to YEG with its unique pizzas and local cask beer. I debated between the multiple vegetarian pizza options, but after a recommendation from the staff, I chose the Curried Crispy Chickpea pizza with the tahini maple sauce. Did you know you get a free sauce with each pizza? I think I could have just DRANK the tahini maple sauce. YUM. But back to the pizza. I loved the mix of flavours and the twist on pizza. I would not go into this place wanting a traditional pizza, as there are some many superb fancy options! The location is great - in Parkallen and off the hustle and bustle of the Ave. It is a simply decorated restaurant with old church benches in the middle for seating, which is a great reuse idea! Pink Gorilla is in (I believe) the old ParkAllen Pizza on 109st. The parking may be somewhat challenging on a busy night as there is not much around the building so you may have to park on the residential street and walk. But on a Wednesday night it was fine. Just something to be aware of. The decor is that back-alley-graffiti look with spray painted this and that on the walls. Maybe it was done by an artist and it's more than what I'm describing but there you go. It's not awful or anything it's fits the theme. The server was very nice. She explained the menu and drinks selection well, was efficient and most of all had a good sense of humour. She also checked on us several times throughout the meal. 5 stars for her. The food was definitely different. I had the Bacon Double Cheeseburger Pizza - which was exactly that: bacon double cheeseburger toppings on a pizza. It was tasty for the most part. I would order it with half the mustard the next time. I'm a fan of mustard but I don't want to be tasting it for an hour after dinner. Altogether though, very good. My only real hangup about Pink Gorilla was the price. I felt that $20 for a 10" Pizza was a little steep. Quality pizza, no doubt, but when the bill was $120 for four of us and that included one drink each, I gasped slightly. The newest pizzeria from the Local Omnivore guys located in the old Parkallen Restaurant location. As soon as you open the doors you're smashed in the face with a massive wave of garlic. We decided to try a "Robust" (16") Double Bacon Cheddar (cheese sauce, chopped brisket, bacon bits, cheddar, tomato, mayo, ketchup, mustard, side pickles) and a "Regular" (10") Pink Gorilla (garlic oil, swiss, fresh pastrami, pickled daikon, yellow mustard, cornichon) The crust was between a thin and medium crust, and made a difference depending on the size of the pizza (which was weird). I find the crust too chewy though. A bit crispier bottom and edges and a more tender chew would have been much better. Toppings were really interesting and tasty though. Prices were pretty steep, $23 for the regular, and $33 for the robust. Half the group liked the Double Bacon Cheddar and the other half preferred the Pink Gorilla. 2 sauces on the side, a donair sauce and a marinara. The donair sauce was way too sweet and really garlic-y (even for a donair sauce). The texture left a lot to be desired. It was more of a paste than a sauce. The marinara was a classic style (fresh chunky tomatoes and herbs and garlic) but tasted a bit stale instead of fresh. The had a couple Bentstick beers on tap and a good selection in the cooler + other non beers. Pizza ok but their delivery car is CONSTANTLY parked in front of the restaurant during rush hour when it's a no parking zone and backs up traffic from downtown. Literally, for this reason, I will not be eating there anymore as it's very disrespectful. Next time this happens, bylaw will be called to get the car towed! read more

I really wanted to like this place. I'm a huge fan of local omnivore. We ordered 3 items. Pizza bread, gingered beef and pineapple jam&ham. The pizza bread had way too much cheese on it. Would be a lot better with just a little cheese. We had the brisket bolognese sauce with it. It wasn't a sauce at all. I love a good bolognese but this was just ground up meat. There was no sauce component at all other than the grease sitting at the bottom from the meat. The gingered beef pizza was just okay. Could use more ginger beef flavour to it. They recommended we have the donair sauce with it. The donair sauce was okay but didn't go with the pizza at all. The pineapple pizza was actually not bad. All of the pizza's has good crust on them. They recommended a garlic dip with this one. The garlic dip is just minced garlic in a bunch of oil. It was over the top garlic-y. I dipped one piece of pizza in it and had garlic burps the rest of the night. I'm a huge garlic lover but it was just too much. For takeout it wasn't too bad of a price with the 25% off. It would be expensive to eat in there though. Overall I would give it 3/5 as the crust was really good and well cooked. The sauces and flavours on the pizza need a lot of work though. read more

I am a huge fan of the ham and jam and pineapple. I found their donair pizza a little overwhelming in flavour, but the donair sauce that came with it toned down the garlic flavour a little bit. Let me start by saying the donair sauce is excellent, bar none. My New Years resolution is to be adventurous and try new spots to eat instead of the same old same old. Based on the review I read here and the restaurants affiliation to the Local Omnivore it was an easy choice to make. Service was great. I ordered the "Halifax" a donair pizza. Portion size perfect. Tomatoes fresh. The 2 areas that need work are the cheese... not cooked enough and melting like one would expect on a pizza. Last but not least the donair meat a total miss. I really liked the ham and pineapple pizza with the pineapple jam and mint cream sauce on top. It's different from your average pizza and super delicious. The crust was on the crispier side and I prefer a soft and doughy one but otherwise it was great! I will defiantly be going back and you should definatly try pink gorilla out! read more
