I'm a huge fan of Smythson's yearly Panama-style diaries and I've picked up other premium leather goods over the years. Hence, it was a treat to enter and look around this small stylish shop. This stuff is relatively expensive and even more so since LHR shops no longer offer a VAT break. There were a few sale items to check out, which are often certain colors of otherwise full priced offerings. I ended up with some personalized note cards, an eye glass sleeve, and spotted items that I hope go on sale in the future. It's often wise to also check their online offerings as the store doesn't always carry them. And for some odd reason, if I can get into the Smythson's UK site and order for USA delivery, it's a little cheaper than ordering from home. It had the leather elbow patches I'd envisaged and when I rolled up the cuffs to reveal the tiny star patterned lining I was smitten. The only jacket on the rack was a smidgen too big, but a helpful shopgirl let me know that they had it in other sizes. One size down and voilà! Perfect! This well-edited collection of clothes and accessories is worth a nosey by men and women alike, especially during sales.

An affable-enough fellow let us into the locked cabinet of wallets (most of which were reasonably priced roughly between £20-40ish) to examine the goods. Not only did he pull out a variety of each design, he talked us through his opinion of how nice and/or useful each one was. Whilst not pushy outright, this was definitely more heavy-handed than your typical English sales demeanour. The boy ended up helping me select an affordable new wallet marked down from £29 to £19. At least, at that kind of cost, I won't be terribly disappointed if it disintegrates after a year or two worth of use. And it sure beats risking the papercuts I've been getting from using an Oyster Card holder as my temporary wallet!

Once I entered the store I was not only warmly greeted but it was genuine. In fact it wasn't one sales associate but all of them. That alone made me want to shop. I tried on several items and left with a pair of black python looking straight leg pants. Also wanted one of their signature vinyl bags but which one I loved them all! So I got a black with their signature floral print. Signature as ai tried a blouse and t shirt with the print but of course it looked better on the bag than on me. As I hurried to the register quickly in fear of missing my flight home. Note they check your boarding pass and you are not charged duties if you are traveling out of the country. I asked the associate a favor please go through my British Pounds and I will pay the difference on my credit card. Little did I know BP expire so my $5 and $10 need to be exchanged on my next trip to the UK. Would definitely come back next trip. However, I forgot one very important thing...boots! Fortunately, my friend that I was staying with was nice enough to lend me her boots. And not just any boots, but her new boots! These boots were not only super stylish, but also beyond comfortable (so important when running around London all day). I think my friend feared I was going to steal her boots (have to admit I thought about it) so she took me to Moda in Pelle to buy my own. They were waiting for me just begging for me to buy them so I did what any reasonable shopper would do and bought 2 pairs...one black pair and one brown pair. While my boots are fabulous I wasn't impressed with the rest of the store. They have some ugly shoes in here and I found the sales associates to just be OK in the helpful department. However, I did appreciate the sales associate discounting my brown boots because of a small scratch on the last pair they had. I ended up paying £160 total for 2 of the most comfortable boots in the world. Priceless.
