We hired Juan and Talia to photograph our August wedding and they were incredible to work with. We had to postpone a year because of Covid and thankfully they were available for our second date and worked with us quickly to lock it down. They were so organized and helpful throughout the entire process of planning our wedding twice over 3 years. As a photographer myself, I had high standards for choosing a photographer for our wedding, and Pinnel Photography was one of the very first vendors we booked back in 2019. I didn't know of anyone who had worked with them, but their photos were beautiful, their prices were more reasonable, and I quickly realized that they were an awesome husband/wife team with such a warm and calm energy. They ended up being one of the most communicative vendors throughout our entire wedding planning process, and we had a great time working with them during our engagement session back in August 2019 (and of course the photos were incredible!) Our March 2020 wedding ended up being cancelled by our venue just a week before because of the first shutdown due to COVID-19, but Juan and Talia were professional and supportive, and we were able to find a new date in December that worked for all of our vendors. As we got closer to December, we realized we'd need to postpone a second time, and this time we rescheduled for another year later. We knew we still wanted to get married this December though, so we let Juan and Talia know that we would be planning a "minimony" and were able to book 5 hours with Juan for this day. Our day finally came last Sunday... we were hours away from being cancelled on again due to another shutdown, but we were able to pull off our outdoor wedding ceremony and dinner as planned. The day was absolutely perfect, and Juan was once again amazing to work with. Juan and Talia are a great down-to-earth couple and awesome to work with. Juan was our wedding videographer and we re-hired him and Talia to do our maternity shoot. They proactively suggested amazing (!!!) locations and asked us for what we are looking for in terms of pictures. We sent a couple of ideas to them and brought some props along and Juan captured all ideas beautifully. Juan is super patient and guided both of us to do better poses. He pays a lot of attention to detail. Ensures tie is straight etc. Which I think is worth so much. Other photographers I've worked with have not done this. You can tell Juan has plenty of experience. My wife and I got married in Santa Barbara this summer, and we are SO grateful to have hired Juan as our wedding photographer!! I worked with Juan for our engagement and microceremony photos. We had to renegotiate our contract due to Covid. For the engagement photos, the photos of my now husband and us together were wonderful, but I didn't get a close up shot of my face as I had hoped for. Juan kept telling me not to smile, which resulted in a lot of photos of me trying not to smile, which looked unnatural for me. I also noticed that all of the photos were digital rather than film, which was disappointing for me because I had chosen them after falling in love with film photography. I asked about that and was assured that film photos would be taken on my wedding day. In the planning process, I had asked about having a shot list and was told that was unnecessary. On the day of the wedding, Juan was very professional. He has a quieter voice and it was difficult to hear him at times. The photos were absolutely stunning. The turn around time was quick. There were some disappointments for me, though. The pictures were all digital with no film photography, despite what was promised. A photo of one of the groomsmen was missing. There are no pictures of my husband and I just facing the camera together. Additionally, I never received the three prints that had been part of my package. Overall, considering the high cost, I chose to seek out a different photographer for my larger reception. read more

We hired Juan to do a maternity shoot. Being 36 weeks pregnant, I honestly was not all that excited to take pics, I just knew that if I didn't I would regret it. AND after sending out a few emails to inquire about taking pics with a few other popular maternity photographers in town and their response time was either nil or poor, I was starting to think the pictures were not meant to happen. That's when my friend suggested I reach out to Juan. When I dialed his number, I honestly didn't think he would pick up (because of the previous experiences I had), BUT much to my dismay, he picked up AND we chatted. He was able to fit me in exactly when I wanted!. After our initial phone call he always got back to me when he said he would and/or reached out, basically, there was no lack of communication. Picture day: He was on time. We walked around the park to do some scouting and then we began. I was kind of shy at first, but honestly within a few minutes my husband and I were totally comfortable and we were having a really good time! As I got more comfortable, I asked to through in a few fun shots, which he was more than happy to do AND made some awesome suggestions without being pushy (I don't know about you, but I love when photographers make suggestions, I mean, after all, they can see me through the lens). After our engagement, one of the things I was truly excited about was an engagement shoot. We chose Pinnel Photography for our elopement when our original photographer had to cancel. It was a very last minute request but Juan was very responsive and easily approachable. Since the first time we saw Juan and Talia's portfolio and blog, we knew they were the ones we want to work with. When we met Juan in person, we knew right away he was more than a great photographer. He was so friendly, calm, professional and creative the whole time. He made sure to follow up with us all the details as the ceremony day approaches. I am a little selective when it comes to photography and many times I find myself criticizing the composition, the angle, or the lighting of my (or other's) photos. However, I immediately find Juan's style very authentic and his photos not like standard wedding photos which I always feard ending up with. We are so happy to have chosen Juan as our wedding photographer. His work is phenomenal, his personality was wonderful to work with, and his prices were very reasonable. All his packages include an engagement shoot and I was so thankful we did this because we were able to get to know Juan before the wedding and to work out any awkward posing kinks you get when you don't like being in front of the camera - like me. Juan and his wife are WONDERFUL! They took our engagement photos and we are so happy with how they turned out! First of all, Juan and my fiance David worked out a surprise proposal shoot. Juan was planted at a beach and my fiance "signaled" him when we arrived. He pretended to be shooting his wife when really he was shooting us in the background the entire time! He caught our whole proposal on camera: the box held behind my back, David down on one knee, my surprised face, our hug afterwards -- everything! It's so special to have that moment captured forever. Then afterwards we did a spontaneous (well, it was spontaneous for me!) shoot on the beach. Juan is very easy to work with. He gives some direction and has a great creative eye.
