If you're lucky which I have been lately you will see a whole family of deer crossing the street or grazing alongside the road. 101 and 280 can be used to get to Belmont. WEATHER not as hot as South Bay but definitely not as cold as San Francisco.

Throughout Belmont Heights and the surrounding neighborhoods is a sprawling trail system that goes around water dog lake and beyond. it's always a lovely place to hike/stroll or bring friends. Another good hike in Belmont is the watershed. The San Francisco Watershed provides beautiful hikes with views of crystal springs reservoir all on an internationally known cross country course. It's truly magical to go for runs or hikes here, especially in the crisp belmont mornings! Belmont is a fairly affluent city that is mostly quiet and very safe. It has close-knit neighbors and organizations and good eats! I love exploring new little places in the surrounding area. I hope i can afford to live in Belmont myself some day. It really is that great!

Santa Clara county should get their act together and be able to figure this out. The supervisor told me that they cannot do it because their system is inadequate and yet when it comes to taxpayer collecting some government agencies are years ahead of others. This is the type of stuff that's going to make a voter not wanna vote for increase spending or increase preservation of Santa Clara County parks and it should go the way of privatization.

this trail borders the emily renzel wetlands, an area south of the baylands nature preserve in east…read morepalo alto. the trail is actually quite short, only about 3/4 of a mile long, and runs parallel to east bayshore road and the northbound, palo alto section of 101. it connects to the adobe creek loop trail which allows you access to byxbee hills park and baylands nature preserve. the pros of this trail: -flat, paved, road, which appears to be well-maintained with minimal cracks in the road -the flat straightaways are actually ideal for doing intervals/speedwork (if you're a runner) -scenic views of byxbee hills & baylands -open to runners, walkers, cyclists, rollerbladers, strollers the cons of this trail: -narrow trail which can get a bit crowded when the weather is nice, so be sure to share the road and extend courtesy to other trail users -very little shade, can get very hot in the summertime -runs along 101 freeway, can be very noisy during rush hour -no water fountains -no restrooms -no mile markers to get to the trailhead, take 101 to embarcadero rd east, and turn right at faber place. there's plenty of free parking along the street.

A Ridge too Far…read more Máyyan 'Ooyákma ("Coyote Ridge" in the native Chochenyo language) is an 1,800-sq ft Open Space Preserve located in the South San José foothills adjacent to the scenic Hwy 101 freeway. Weekend reservations are required for weekend hikes in March - May (book through Eventbrite), and a Butterfly Pass is required to visit this park. The Good: * Free to visit * Private parking lot (no street parking) * Restroom (pit toilet) in parking lot * One of the few places in the Bay that you can (allegedly) see Tule Elk in their natural habitat, and it's the closest place to home for most of us South Bayers. We visited during a Tule Elk guided hike and didn't see bupkis. According to the guide, later in the day, closer to sunset (after 5 p.m.ish), is the best time of day, as that's when the herds start looking for food. * Access here used to be limited to guided hikes only, but now it's more freely accessible except for certain times of the year (see above). * Guided hikes are still available (see website). * Approx. five miles of trails which are in reasonable shape except for the Serpentine Spring Trail (see below). The Meh: * No running water in the restroom, only hand sanitizer. * Trails have no switchbacks on the uphill and downhill. Just straight up and down for 1,000' of elevation gain. The Ugly: * Absolutely zero shade on the entire property, so definitely avoid this place during hot days and in the summer in general. * Coming downhill on the Serpentine Spring Trail was an absolute nightmare; the entire trail is full of really loose pieces of shale that in and of themselves are no bueno, but combine that with a really steep downhill decline and you have a recipe for disaster. I highly, highly suggest if you're coming here to do the 5 miles of trails, go clockwise from the parking lot: Serpentine-to-Tule Elk-to-Butterfly Trail and then back to the parking lot. Conclusion: I rarely give parks a low rating, but honestly, this place was not our cup of tea. With the lack of shade and steep, dangerously slippery trails, I just don't foresee us ever coming back.

We started on the Left-hand side which was bit steep but lots of poppies & goldfields on the purple line. Then did the blue line no flowers there, then down the green line, tidy tips, poppies. All 3 trails was only 5.8 miles. There is 1 more Fri-Sun hike scheduled if you want to check it out for Spring.

It's just a quick,…read moreeasy jaunt out my front door to the nearest part of the trail, and before long I'm strolling through neighborhoods and cruising by small family-owned farms and vineyards and all the while I'm getting a bit of vitamin D and a little exercise and some precious alone time. It's not an extensive trail network, nor is the trail very long, but it does wind through some very pretty neighborhoods that are awfully pretty and interesting to explore in themselves. If you run out of real estate on the trail, simply start exploring the nearby neighborhoods off the trail. It's sufficiently hilly and I've only once ever seen anyone else on it. I docked a star partly for how short the trail is, but mostly because it's often hard to determine exactly where the trail goes. Once I ended up at the far end of a giant field, feeling certain that the trail must go in this direction, only to discover that I was suddenly in someone's backyard with no sign of the trail to be had. Reluctantly I retraced my steps and ended up running on the road rather than trying to bushwhack through the woods or zig-zag across open fields. Otherwise, the trail is beautiful and serene and a great opportunity for some exercise and fresh air.
