    German sampler

This place is a little hidden treasure! Great German sample platter and the oldest German beer, which was really good. PROBST! Great service and ask for April. She's a gem. Everyone was very nice here. Check it out!

Ordered a salad with grilled chicken. The lettuce was almost brown! The potato salad was literally one little potato sliced with some cheap Italian dressing and what seemed like raw bacon fat. Wayyyyy overpriced. $17 for 3 chicken fingers and fries? I agree with the other reviews that this place is overpriced especially for the quality of food. Skip skip skip.

We spent a week in Cooperstown and ate there twice! Great food, and such friendly people and service, starting with the owner, Rich. He and his daughter were working so hard during the busiest weekend of the year making sure their patrons were taken care of, and that their employees were getting ample breaks and time off. The food was phenomenal (highly recommend the Rueben) and the beer was cold and delicious! I can't wait to get back to hang with Rich and the team!

Casual, friendly, fast service. Good drinks and food. Indoor or outdoor seating. Very welcoming staff. Wish we were spending more time here, because I would come back but we want to try other places while in town. Diverse menu. Great burgers. German food too. Nice selection of local craft beers too. Had shrimp corn chowder was outstanding with an Ommegang IPA. My husband had bratwurst burger (full burger with full brat on top) and he loved it. Can't say enough about the friendly service! Family friendly too.

    Bratwurst sandwich "where's the brat?"

Stopped in for a late lunch, allowed to choose our seats as they weren't busy at the time. Server was prompt in taking our order and for our meal to be served, but that's it for the really good. We had Rueben and Bratwurst sandwiches. While the corned beef was good ( thin sliced, adequate portion), it was so wet that it soaked thru the rye bread, leaving me to try to pick up mush. Commented to server about it but she did nothing to try to rectify. Dining partner's brat was only 1/2 as long as the roll it was served on. (We joked about the old tv ad for a burger joint "where's the beef?" And then the kitchen tried to fill the void with a massive portion of relish and a few drippings of sauerkraut. Both sandwiches were served on plates loaded with potato chips and each plate was $15.

    Pretty amazing double IPA.

Pretty decent place for a bite to eat and (more important for me) to grab a few beers. My server, Tiffany, was AMAZING and made great recommendations about Pioneer's beer selection.

Our drinks came out quickly As for our appetizers they came out promptly and were delicious. As for our main meals, the portions were perfect and the flavors were great. If you're look for authentic german cuisine the Jaeger Haus is the place to go!!! I am looking forward to our next visit.

On our way back from meeting our new grandson for the first time in Rhinebeck ((born early this…read moremorning, 10-4-25, and everyone doing splendidly) , we stopped at one of our favorite local places for authentic tasting German food--Jaeger Haus (5084 NY-9G) in Tivoli, NY.  My one sentence review for card-carrying members of team Cliff Notes: "German beer on tap, a good selection of German wines, and authentic tasting German cuisine at really reasonable prices served up by friendly staff in an environment which just exudes Gemütlichkeit."  Everyone else is invited to continue reading, Bitte. There used to be numerous German restaurants in NYC and throughout upstate NY, but over the years those numbers have dwindled substantially to a handful.  A relatively new addition to the local Hudson Valley dining scene Jaeger Haus was started in 2018 (in a 70 year old restaurant building) and serves up seriously tasty and authentic tasting German beer, wine, and food.  We've dined there a few times over the last two years of visiting this year--the mood is relaxed, the beer is delicious, and food remind us of our travels to Germany and Austria.  The menu is tight and by that I mean it's focused on what they do well--which is traditional German food. While I wish they might add a few classic German appetizers to their menu for variety, their range of entrees provides ample choice and I am slowly making my way through those selections. Lola, one of our servers for the evening, quickly took our drink orders.  I ordered a mug of Hofbrau Original Lager (on tap) and after being given a tasting, my wife ordered a pint of Hofbrau Weissbier (which is similar to the sort of wheat beer she occasionally enjoys).  So refreshing.  A basket of house-made thinly sliced Roggenbrot (rye bread) arrived soon after our drinks with softened butter, lightly sprinkled with sea salt. We passed on the appetizers, knowing that our entrees would be substantial.  My wife ordered the Wienershcnitzel which comes with braised red cabbage and house-made spaetzle lightly sauced with a cream gravy.  These are classic sides which one can find served in restaurants from Vienna or Munich to Heidelberg or Berlin.  I ordered exactly the same thing (having tried other dishes on our prior visits), except I ordered my Wienerschnitzel "a la Holstein" (with a fried local farm egg).  The egg, especially the large yolk, provides an added level of lusciousness to the crispy veal.   Our meals arrived in due course.  They were gorgeous to look at and ate even better than they looked.  The spaetzles were soft and fluffy, the red cabbage was rich and well spiced, and the veal . . . the veal was heavenly.  Crisp on the outside, fork tender on the inside, dipping into a bit of the egg yolk (in my case); goodness what a delightful taste sensation. Just delicious.  We both earned "clean plate" certificates tonight--suitable for framing--felt satiated, but not overly full (which is where we like to end a meal).  We nursed our beers a bit longer, sharing memories from this special day, paid our bill (the bill encouraged customers to tip in cash, which we did), thanked the staff, bid the co-owner "danke schön und Wiedersehen" and we were on our way.

The Arctic air had ideas about permanence. The car's thermometer read -14, and it didn't know the wind was gusting at 30 mph. My family and I scurried off Route 9 and into Spargel on 9, seeking sausages, gravies, and the hearty warmth of central European food. We had a six o' clock reservation. We arrived ten minutes early, cheeks stinging, only to find the dining room looking pleasantly underpopulated. I would guess a quarter full, perhaps one third if I was feeling generous. Reservations, in this case, felt like bringing a life raft into a swimming pool. Still, it's nice to feel expected. The host asked if we would mind sitting in a booth in the bar area. This struck me as odd given the abundance of empty tables in the main dining room, but mystery is good for the appetite. We agreed and settled in among the taps and glassware. Warm pretzel bread appeared with honey butter that tasted as if bees had briefly considered culinary school. We ordered Backers mit Apfel Sauce, potato pancakes with apple sauce, and they arrived promptly. Crisp at the edges, soft in the middle, devoured with the focus of people who had just crossed a tundra parking lot. The table went silent save for appreciative chewing. My wife chose the Rindfleisch Gulash. It arrived in a state of deep, fragrant seriousness. The beef fell apart at the slightest suggestion from a fork. It was rich, warming, and the sort of thing that makes winter feel much less like a personal attack. She allowed me several bites, which I accepted with the gratefullness of a man being handed state secrets. I ordered the Kassler Rucken Vom Grill, featuring smoked pork loin from Oscar's Smokehouse, a local legend. The cut was thick and beautifully smoked. My wife and oldest son both sampled it and approved. Yet in the quiet corner of my mind I could not escape the notion that I was enjoying a very accomplished ham steak. This is not an insult. It was expertly prepared. I simply suspect that on my next visit I will wander elsewhere on the menu. My oldest son selected the Erlanger Sauerbraten and took to it with enthusiasm. He managed about half, which for a growing fourteen year old is an achievement bordering on mythical. The rest went back to the hotel in a box, where I am told it continued to perform admirably. My youngest ordered the kid's bratwurst with french fries. This was the one faint cloud in an otherwise sturdy sky. The sausage was on the small side and the fries were serviceable but uninspired. After finishing, he remained hungry, which is notable because he is not typically an ambitious eater. At this price point, a more generous bratwurst would have felt right. Service was the chief reason I cannot quite award five stars. It was exceedingly slow. Not inattentive, and certainly not careless, simply stretched thin. Our server and bartender, Beau, moved with the intensity of a man attempting to occupy three dimensions at once. He mixed drinks, took orders, ran food, delivered checks, and did it all with good humor and great skill. The delay was clearly a matter of staffing, not effort or ability. In the end, we left warm, well fed, and maybe slightly perfumed with smoke and gravy. The food was very good, and in some cases excellent. The room felt welcoming, even if curiously arranged. We will return the next time we find ourselves braving a Queensbury winter evening. Four stars, gladly given, with hopes that the next visit includes an extra pair of hands behind the bar or in the dining room, and perhaps one more bratwurst for the smallest member of the family.
