A few weeks after they had finished we had a leak from the toilet soil pipe, it turns out that they had connected the new bathroom drains to ancient lead piping. We would have willingly paid extra to have this replaced. Laings would not help and we had to get in a builder to dismantle and replace with PVC pipe. After this the tiles started to crack in the shower and the grouting fell out. This caused more leaks. We had to get a surveyor to advise and he discovered that the boarding under the tiles had not been properly fixed and the tile adhesive had only been 'dabbed' on rather than complete coverage. So the shower had to be removed and rebuilt/tiled. This cost us a fortune and Laings just ignored us until I employed a solicitor and eventually they paid our repair costs and legal fees which by that time almost equalled the original cost of the bathroom. But a very stressful time. Laings are members of the KBSA and IBSA who are of no use if things go wrong. If you want to buy a bathroom from anyone I recommend you ask for references from satisfied customers, otherwise it is just chance. I would also definitely avoid Laings.

This went very smoothly from start to finish which also included the fitter Keith who was a stickler for every deatail to be correct and as an added bonus was a very tidy tradesman.After the ensuite we then tackled the kitchen, main bathroom and finally the cloakroom. They didn't turn-up and only phoned me at 5pm to say they were't coming, after I'd taken a half day from work. Then they arranged a weekend visit instead and didn't turn-up for that either, so I waited in all day for nothing. I understand that jobs over-run sometimes, but the lack of communication was really poor and two missed visits doesn't inspire confidence. Edit: Marie did phone me at 4pm on Saturday and assured me an engineer would visit next Saturday at 9am without fail. Edit 28/11: It's 9.30am Saturday and the engineer isn't here. If I had a complaining customer and I'd promised that an engineer would attend by a certain time, I'd ensure they were on time. Late and no call. Very, very poor.

Having worked with Sculleries I cannot for one second believe that the negative review posted is about the same company! We have had projects at other properties completed at a far higher price than we paid Sculleries and to a level of work not even close to the quality. So to say that their price is competitive is understatement. If you are looking for top quality, high end work I cannot reccommend Sculleries enough. If you are wanting cheap, lower quality work, you should probably shop around - You will get what you pay for.

The tiles are high end but reasonably priced and of better quality than you receive from the nearby discount warehouses on Seafield Rd. We ended up purchasing our kitchen tiles here as we wanted a stone tile but our kitchen installers refuse to install anything except ceramic. We've been able to get exactly what we wanted from here after a fairly long hunt. We have had two bathroom companies tell us they are their preferred wholesale supplier due to the range and quality available.

We walked into a small, but swish looking show room and greeted by who we assumed is the "head" of this family business. He really did know everything. He didn't give us the BS sales patter, he listened to what we wanted, rejoiced in our practicality, and went over various design ideas with us. He showed us different cabinet finishes, different work tops, etc. He expressed an understanding of our budget constraints so when we were informed that one of the cabinet doors we liked was an "8 or 9" on the price scale, while the other was a "2" we asked to see the design/pricing of the "2" doors. After a bit longer than we expected, we were called back to view the design. Unfortunately, they had designed and priced the "8 or 9" doors and while it looked great, the price was far more than what we thought we made clear we could afford. They had some great price-saving ideas and said that they would re-do the design with the "2" doors and let us know. Unfortunately, they never got back in touch. I don't know if we fell under the radar or if they just decided we probably wouldn't be able to afford the cheaper cabinets anyway so decided not to bother with the work. We didn't get back in touch either because we were not pleased having to remind them that they could profit from us, and because we decided to start looking at other options. So, we were left feeling that we liked them but they didn't fully listen to us on our first meeting and seemingly wrote us off as not being able to afford their services. In these economic times I think these upmarket kitchen salesmen need to expand their ideas to cover those of us who are willing to pay more for quality, but don't want to be yanked around in the process.

However after clearly outlining our budget we received our quote which was about £5K more than we had anticipated, however because of the quality of the kitchens on offer we decided to push our budget and commit to buying what we believed was a superior kitchen. Work was generally satisfactory although trying to get the tradesmen to respond to our calls and pin them down on dates for completion was a nightmare once the process had started. There was a period of about two weeks when no work went on at all. However, once the work was complete we suddenly found that several additional costs had been added on without consultation and so began a lengthy battle with the company, refusing to pay these unspecified costs. No written or verbal changes to the original quote had been advised by the company and we ended up having to threaten to go to the Ombudsman to get it sorted. Three years down the line and what we thought was a superior kitchen costing a substantial £16K hasn't proved to be the case. We now have one of the doors hanging off and after calling the company, expecting their work to be guaranteed at that price, have been told by rude sales staff that we cannot make an appt to get the work fixed but will just have to keep calling back on the off chance one of their tradesmen is free. On the whole an exceptionally poor experience for a LOT of money.

They were extremely helpful from start to finish. At one point just before the claim was accepted, the insurers decided to go down the 'cash settlement road', which pretty much meant that they were washing their hands off me, which I was not going to stand for. Richard at Property Repair contacted the Loss Adjuster to explain my plight and shortly afterwards rang me to say all would proceed as planned. His Tradesmen all arrived in company liveried vans and wore company uniforms, they were polite and not once did I hear profanity from any of the builders, even if I did use some myself. Very Happy with Property Repair, very happy indeed! J x
