What a waste of money! Smallest and thinnest steak I've ever seen. I gave the extra star because the sauce was good. But after the whole sandwich I was still hungry. I used to go to the Pipo's on north dale mabry when I was younger. They closed, so when I found out the one on Hillsborough existed I was excited. You go in and it's cafeteria style. Pick a meat and two sides. I chose to do half and half on the meat. I got chicken and pork, white rice, plantains. I ordered extra grilled onions and pork sauce too (it's a must). You get a ridiculous amount of food. Even if you are starving, you will most likely have leftovers. The food is great. Pipo's has most of their items cafeteria style, with a menu board of additional items that you can have prepared. Some of my favorite items are the Breaded Palomilla steak, deviled crabs, plantains, the black beans and yellow rice, and of course the Cuban sandwich. Checked out this location after running some errands the other day. It was ok. I got the pulled pork, white rice, and yucca. There just didn't seem to have a whole lot of flavor on any of it. The Yucca was undercooked. The rice just dry. We were there about 2pm but the food looked like it was from the previous day, and they were out of some of the options. This food is fresh and delicious. I've eaten here at least 5-7 times now and it is always satisfying. I tend to stick to chicken so I have tried both the shredded chicken and the roast chicken. I enjoyed both. The shredded chicken is very flavorful so it might be my favorite. The rice and beans are always tasty too. The flan here is also very good. If you are in the mood for some home cooking but too lazy to cook, this is the place for you. The portion was huge. I ended up taking half of it home. The meat was flavorful and moist. The beans and rice were also good. There was a decent selection of sides, all of them looked good. In fact, everything looked good. I've had more flavorful Cuban, but the 'Rona shut down my favorite place in Oldsmar, so I'm on the lookout for another Cuban place. read more

I love this little gem with a surprise drive-thru window. Pipo's can be habit-forming, but there are enough healthy items to choose from that I don't mind. In fact, you may even want to add salt to your dish. Each time I've visited, the staff always seemed to enjoy their work and are very pleasant to interact with. The overall cleanliness and order of the front-of-house leads me to believe the kitchen is well-kept also. I mean, just look at how they arrange their napkins... While there may be very similar places in the area, none of them combine the value, convenience, spaciousness, taste and comfort of Pipo's. Plus, I like lime green buildings. I came here for the first time on a Monday afternoon for lunch and was really blown away by how good the food is. As soon as I walked in the door I got a whiff of all sorts of amazing smells and my mouth immediately began to water. I had already looked up the menu online and knew that I wanted to try a toasted Cuban as well as some Spanish bean soup. The ladies at the counter quickly packaged everything up and as soon as I got home I tore into that Cuban like a man on a mission. It was absolutely fantastic. I haven't had a Cuban that good in years, and even though I'm full, I'm still salivating over it. The Spanish bean soup was fantastic as well. There were lots of big chunks of sausage in it, which was really great to see. Some places short change you by giving you a couple of really tiny chunks, but not at Pipo's. I was surprised at the variety of items they had on the line and really surprised at how reasonable all of the prices are. Breakfast specials start at around $4 and lunch specials start around $6. I ordered two eggs over easy, two slices of bacon which were big and thick, home fries, a crab cake, Cuban toast and a small cafe con leche. Everything was cooked perfectly. I have eaten breakfast at a lot of North Pinellas restaurants because I live in that area but few deliver delicious food like Pipos that's why travel to this great Cuban restaurant in Northwest Tampa, not far from Tampa airport. Pipos is family owned, friendly, a very clean cafeteria like restaurant. When you order breakfast, they bring it to you because unlike lunch it's cooked to order. I see a lot of take out business when I'm there. I love their crab cakes because they make them from scratch. Also enjoy their stuffed potatoes. They make your cubans to order and the prices are good! My bf always gets the ropa vieja and finishes every last piece, so I am assuming he likes it! Ropa vieja- Delicious pieces of meat. The flavor is very good and great with the yellow rice and black beans. Breaded Steak- MMM! This is a huge piece. I can never finish it so if you have a smaller appetite, cut it in half and take half to go! I love the green beans and yuca as sides! Cuban- This is good but nothing spectacular. This is one of those places that left me wondering what has taken me so long to come visit here as I've lived across this restaurant for 6 years. Finally decided to try something new and I've heard they were owned by the same folks who run Ulele's and The Columbia, so I knew they had to be very good. The outside is small and a little unassuming, but the food was anything but. They give you large portions and let you pick what you want. I'm not big into rice, so I chose the shredded chicken, side of plantains, and a side salad. My boyfriend, normally a very picky eater, went with the picadillo, black and yellow rice (surprised me since he's not normally big into rice either) and some plantains. For dessert he had flan. Both of us agree; you can really taste the love in the food. The chicken was moist and tender and simmering in a light sauce. There were peppers and carrots added in there which gave it a nice touch. The salad was pretty good for a side, and I loved how they also had shredded carrots added in, since most side salads are disappointing at best. Of course, the plantains made the meal for me. I loved the caramelized slight crunch savory sweetness that I expected and hoped for. It definitely went very well with the chicken and was more than enough carb for me. My boyfriend felt that the picadillo was the best hands down he's ever had, and he's had his fair share of picadillo. It was his first time ever having flan, and he didn't care for it, but like the flavor of it. For the amount of food you get, the price is more than reasonable. I been here a few times for lunch. The food is normal nothing special. I decided to come and grab food for dinner for a family of 5 and I wanted a large rice and a large meat. The women told me I couldn't have it that way. And decided to tell me what was best for my family and suggested for me to order 5 meals, it would be cheaper she said. First off it wasn't about what is cheaper and second one order it too much food for a child to eat let alone myself. That was very upsetting I was giving a hard time about how I wanted my food. The food won't have been cheaper ordering five separate meals and I believe the real reason I didn't receive my meals my way is because They couldn't figure out a price.
