Upon…read morearrival, there are limited options for leaving the station to your hotel or adventures: foot, taxi, or tram. There are NO UBERS in Dresden. Taxis are only located in the main entrance. If you exit the side or back, you will not find a taxi even if the signs say there are. There are no taxis but in the main entrance. Once you exit the train, there are stairs, I did not see any elevators to exit the tracks. This means you need to pick up your luggage to climb up/down the stairs. Make sure if you have luggage that you can pick it up, there is nobody to assist with your luggage. The train station like all stations have no heating or cooling. Dress appropriately. Food: there is Rewe to go, Subway, le Crobag, and some other food options within the station and then near the tracks there are minimal food options. Seating: limited seating above the track area. Bathrooms: 1 euro to use, I did not use them.

The main station has all the normal things you'd expect but smaller. There are several bakeries, a Subway sandwich, shop, and other places to eat and make small purchases. If you're coming from the United States, don't even try using your Uber app. Ubers do not run in Dresden. Exit through the main doors and then look to the left for a small taxi line. Also, public transit in Dresden is fairly easy to use. There's a tram station only a few minute walk from the station. Trams cost euro3.40 per person per trip.

Well on the weekend the bus to Prague comes ever three hours. I arrived at 11:05 and missed the 11:00 bus. I waited till 13:00 to get the next bus that was full of color runners. Lol. Just check the schedules at the station a head of time. It is a clean little station.

But as a historical sight this certainly has its value, it's an engineering masterpiece for sure. I highly recommend visiting Wuppertal where you can enjoy almost the system (horizontal though) for much, much longer! The Wuppertal Suspension Railway (Wuppertaler Schwebebahn) was designed by the same guy (Eugen Langen) as this one and is in my humble opinion the best public transportation system in the world. Anyway, when we got there the ticket machine was only taking coins and most people were very frustrated as each ticket costs €5 and when you have a small group then producing that much change in coins is pretty hard for most. Anyway eventually the guy came out and started selling tickets and everyone was able to get one. The journey itself is very short and once you are on top you can have a great view of the city of Dresden. The journey itself is least exciting and slow. Besides the lookout deck there is nothing else really there. I am glad I did it but I won't be repeating it again. There are so many other things to do in town ;-))
