Great natural pool spot. Since the area has become more developed, there are steps and railings to get in/out of the water. There is also ample space to lay out if you prefer that to the water. It is worth noting that you should be able to minimally swim or tread water as there are some deeper spots. If concerned, do not let it deter you as there is a lifeguard posted for safety. There is a good amount of parking available and also pretty easy for taxi pickup/drop-off. This is a must do when in Terceira. These pools were naturally formed in the lava rock (but don't be intimidated) but the rocks in the water were mostly smooth due to the years of erosion. The pools closer to the parking were very calm, and the ones farther out had some fun currents and little waves. There were spots to lay out and sunbathe if that's your thing. I absolutely didn't want to leave. They also had a number of snack stalls, a restaurant, changing rooms, and showers. read more
