Another fast food gem, Located on Normandie and Gardena blvd. I've been going to pit burger since the 70's. The food is the same consistent quality, quantity and price as before. My usual is the single Teri beef plate. My husbands is the double Teri beef plate which are both made into at least two meals. The meat is lean and Teri sauce delicious. Its best for take out since it is an older establishment and you can count on there always being a line that goes pretty quickly. There is a nice sized parking lot. Grew up eating Pitburger and for me it hasn't changed in all these years! There Teriburgers are the best around.. Can't be beat! That teriyaki sauce is perfection.. I've tried just about everything from here and am never disappointed. Pitburger has been around for a long time but still to this day the double teri beef is so good. Love the teriyaki sauce and naturally the rice. One bonus thing that you get is a pickle. The reason why I get a double is that I don't at it all and it is always good later. Another thing is that you can watch them make your mean, so you see that things are clean along with observation what everyone else has ordered. read more

Had the double teryaki beef burger. It was delicious!!! Definitely recommend this place. Not a lot of seating inside, so if you're going at lunch time consider getting your food to go. All in all, super tasty hole in the wall, cash only, and not a lot of seating. read more

Growing up in Gardena, this was the place that my parents would take me to when I finished playing basketball. (seriously, what japanese girl who grew up in the south bay DIDNT play basketball?) Anyways, I would come here and get a teriburger. This is teriyaki beef slices placed in between a hamburger bun with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and teriyaki sauce. It is reasonably priced around 3 bucks. They have fries to go with it, which are your typical, thick diner fries! If you are not feeling a burger, they also have teriyaki plates that come with rice, a salad and a buttered hamburger bun. Do not ask me why, but that darn half of a hamburger bun with butter on it is freaking great. How come when I put butter on toast at home, it isnt this tasty? Anyways, great meal for the price-- if you get a large plate, you can share with a friend! It is definitely enough food for two people. One of my go to spots whenever I'm craving teriyaki. Actually discovered this place back in 2002 when I first moved to the city of Gardena and ever since then I been coming here! Their single dinner plate is more than enough of food but if youre super super hungry then get double. Their meats are very lean, hardly any fat and they are petty generous with their teriyaki sauce, unlike Rascals which is nearby. read more

Pitburger. What is there to say. Gardena icon, been here forever and everyone knows about it. At least the locals do. Out of area types would probably be scared witless to even walk up to this place, let alone eat here. But that's ok, it keeps the lines short ;) Snobby type people won't like it either. Keep them away too. It doesn't look clean, but it's clean enough. The facilities are run down, but who cares. Gotta stand outside on the sidewalk and stare at the gazillion sploches of gum that the bratty Peary and GH kids have spit on the ground over the years, but I've never stepped on fresh gum here luckily =D I think a few years back one of the workers ended up buying the place from the original Korean couple that owned it. But it's run the same, so nothing has changed that I can tell. Same ol' same ol'. Keeps ya comfy you know! The plates are pretty generous, and come with rice, a small salad with some thousand type dressing and the ever famous butter bun! Oh yes the butter bun! Why is it so good?? I have no idea, but it is. Just take my word for it. Maybe the butter has crack in it or something. I don't care. I will love the butter bun forever and ever. You can get an extra one too, that's especially yummy when you haven't been here for a while. They have chicken or beef teriyaki and that's it. The burgers are quite good, and the fries are not bad at all either. The chili on rice is awesome, especially with cheese and onions. So remember, the notable stuff is: Teri plates with beef or chicken or both...yum! Chili rice...yum again! Teri burgers...good but I prefer the plates myself. I'll always refer to Pit Burger using the name by which the place should be categorized-- simply, Teri Burger. In fact, I didn't know the place had another title until I was like 12 and happened to peer up at the sign perched 20ft above in long-burned out, backlit plastic. This box of a takeout joint proves that its niche is teriyaki beef, whether plated over japonica rice or on a grilled bun. Sliced thin, not fatty, and coated in their sweet and savory teri sauce, the steak strips bite perfectly through and never make you impatient for the next taste because of chewiness. A little shredded lettuce and mayo on their butter-grilled, slightly crisp bun and you have yourself a teri burger to travel from Chicago for (read review below and I SO get why your husband visits). Teriyaki isn't my thing and mayo isn't either, but teri burgers like these are made to make condiment-exceptions for. If you're not a saucy person, request little of it but still get the teri... I don't know why or that I would order anything else from the wall menu, though I've heard average things about the regular burgers. This is a park in the lot, walk to the window, wait your turn and wait til you get home to enjoy (if you can resist the glorious smell) type spot, so know not to expect much for ambiance. I've never liked teriyaki, never! I just don't like sweet flavors for food that isn't a dessert. My girlfriend had told me about this place a long time ago how it was her childhood spot and she loved teriyaki chicken there. I never wanted to go cus I just know my taste and I didn't think I'd like it. Let me tell you, it turned out I was depriving myself of something delicious! We had to go to Pitburger for someone else and my gf insisted on me trying teriyaki beef just to give it a try. Omg! Who knew that teriyaki can be so delicious! It was so light yet packed with flavors! Beef was perfectly sliced and charred, rice was flavorful and puffy in a good way. All in all, the dish was a 5 star dish! I will be back for sure. I pulled off the 405 at Normandie, not sure of what I wanted, but sure that I was hungry. When I noticed Pitburger, I knew I had to try it. I didn't even look it up on Yelp (sorry!), I just pulled in to give it a try. Outstanding. Without any doubt, Pitburger has the best teriyaki burger on the planet. The teriyaki sauce is amazing, and they used sliced beef rather than ground beef (nice surprise). The butter bun alone gets 10 stars on its own. I've been eating here 25+ years. I grew up down the street and never have I ever got a burnt bun. Can't go wrong with Beef or Chicken. Or you can get both on a combo plate. I'm not a fan of teriyaki. Only because 90% of these so called "teriyaki" places always have a fake taste to their food. This is my first hamburger experience. My grandmother lived in the apartments just down the street to the left owned by the late Pointer Family. This was back in 1971 when I attended St. Anthony of Padua School and Kinder. I was fortunate that my mother took me here to eat all the time. For kicks I googled the name to see if it was still there and I could not believe that it is still in business~ But why shouldn't they be, the burgers are 5 star! They were in 1973 and I assume they still have that unforgettable grilled taste. The Teriyaki burger was what I also ordered as a kid. I left Gardena in 1974. Some of my earliest childhood memories come from Pitburger. I remember I was way too short to even order because the counter was way above my head. I remember talking through the screen door like it was going to help in a security matter but now I realize it was more for the bugs and stuff. The smoke that came out of that window and vents above were very distinctive and the smell unforgettable. Mr Do was the game of choice for me on the numerous table top video game consoles inside. Wow. Memories. What's funny is that I met the son of the original owner at my current work place and it was around the same time that i used to go alot. Small world. Teri Beef Sandwiches are the best here. Real beef, not burgers. But their burgers are good too though. If you're looking for a healthy joint, go elsewhere. This was meant to be bad for you so take it for what it's worth. Good junk food. I remember thinking the Wiener plate was a funny name (still is) but I got this a lot. Char grilled hot dogs over rice and home made chili on top with onions. All their plates came with the shredded lettuce and thousand island dressing, the pickle on top and also 1/2 a hamburger bun spread with butter and grilled face down on the griddle. Yum. They serve teri rice (beef teri on top of rice with a pickle on top) as singles, doubles, and triples. Singles were good enough because you needed room for the fries. The fries were strangely addicting. I guess for a kid, and adult, fries are always addicting but these were thin, crispy, and hot. Perfect. Another memory I have is from the hot pepper bin they had that you need to grab a small package and take what you want. I think they went away from that for hygienic and wasteful purposes so you just need to ask them for it now. They have shakes and stuff too but I don't remember how they were. I think pretty good but I can't recall. After several owner changes and face lifts, the overall core has stayed the same for the most part. The concept is the same and the parking lot still sucks. This place is the Holy Grail of all teriyaki spots, ever. Teri Beef place w/ extra bun! The plate are not overly sauced, and the sauce itself is fantastic. I also love how their meats are chargrilled and you can definitely taste the BBQ flavor. Definitely a hole in the wall joint, but the food is delicious! Don't let the appearance fool you. I have been going to this teriyaki joint for years. I can never decide what to get, so I usually split with my parents or friends a combo plate--comes with rice, half chicken/half beef teriyaki, a toasted and buttered hamburger bun, and small salad topped with thousand island-- and a teriyaki burger. Anytime I am in the LA area I hit Pitburger. I eat like a glutinous pig since it is a rare treat. The double teriyaki burger is amazing. Do not do any substitutions (though if you are one of those kind of people this probably isn't the kind of place for you). They are thin slices of delicious teriyaki beef stacked up, not ground beef. One bite and you will be hooked. The chili cheese fries are just like you remember from being a kid and just as good, even as an adult. And, well I love a good corn dog, so I usually throw one in for good measure. All in all a must go to. read more

Read the reviews and went based on the good ones. I should have paid more attention to the poor ones. It's not bad, although I got the runs within 6 hours...the chicken teriyaki seemed a little under cooked. I had the specialty on my first (and last) visit. The portion size wasn't filling, the sauce nothing memorable, the little toasted bun...why?, the shredded cabbage was covered in watered down 1000. The rice was fine. Bottom line, a poor value in my opinion $7, add $2 for a soda plus tax and you're at $10. Yes, it's a little dive but that's fine with me though the inside was dirty. Time they update and clean a bit. Perhaps it's best to just stand outside in the parking lot and inhale the charbroiling aroma. Seriously, that was the best part of my experience. Then, head down the block to Artesia and get great teriyaki and much better menu at Teri Hawaii. The chicken tery is a very large portion, prepared to order, hot, fresh, the sauce is tasty and it comes with a green salad, potato/mac or other choices. PLUS it's served on real large plates in various colors. It's clean plus they have shave ice. Sorry, won't return to Pit. It needs to step up its game.
