Popped in for some pie with the family after a wild Rivers excursion. I've lived in Newport for 30 years. Can't remember what was here before but have not been into this pizza spot and I regret it. My kids have become so accustomed to the cardboard from the big cheese I love good pizza. To this day the the best pizza I've ever had was from a wood pit in New York. Ordered two kids pizzas and a margherita for the Mrs. and I. One of the kids was ordered no sauce they came light sauce they fixed it promptly. The dough was light airy crunchy on top very nice on the interior not too salty not to much doughy finish and consistency. Only request would be a bit more sausage on the add-on to the margherita pie. I didn't see any oregano crushed pepper or Parmesan dispensers. Didn't look very hard as I was very tired from the day. Pitfire has some of my favorite pizza. The honey bear is great with the spicy sausage and the sweet honey contrast. They also have great salads that are pretty big. Great place to have a good beer and good pizza. read more

This is for service only. We have ordered take out here for several years. We love the pizza but the last two times they have consistently messed up our order. The last time they were swamped and basically told us they couldn't give us our order that we placed in advance. My husband waited for an hour and they didn't even give us a refund. They gave us a giftcard instead. We understand there are off days and we like the food so we just took the giftcard. We ordered again today and they didn't give us the dessert that comes with our meals and the utensils we requested. We didn't figure this out until we brought the food home. We've been trying to call for the last 20 min and no one is answering. My husband said the restaurant was not even busy this time. We are very disappointed. If ordering takeout go somewhere else. I've been here a couple times and every time it's been pretty underwhelming. The last thing I got there was the Honey Bear pizza, and the main flavor was just pure honey. Maybe I should've known that's what it was going to taste like, but it was just way too much honey. Service was good though and I like the speakeasy in the back. This review is from April 2023. We had a very good pizza and salad. The beer was yummy too. Service was friendly and prompt. This is a very casual place. Perfect for a night you don't want to fuss about anything (but still have a good meal). The only thing I didn't like was the layout of the dining area. Part of the kitchen and work area was too exposed to the diners, but not in a good way. As our table was close to that area, it felt the kitchen had spilled into the dining area and the hustle and bustle of the servers, take out customers and the visual of the take out boxes was unappealing. read more

My partner and I used to go here during COVID and the food was great. We came back yesterday and the service was lacking even when we were the only customer there. They forgot to add pepperoni and remedied the situation by just cutting up some for me to add to my own pizza.. We brushed it off, however last night and all day today we have been experiencing symptoms of food poisoning. My stomach is in knots and my partner has been throwing up. First thing you will notice when you step into the restaurant, the smell of burning wood from their fire pit oven. As you walk in, you are greeted by the cashier at the counter by their bar. You basically order there & get the number to be seated in their dining hall if you're dining in. Place isn't small, they can cater small parties to large groups. They also have outside tables for al fresco dining. Food was great. Ordered the Sausage Party. The thin crust pizza with simple toppings - a tad salty for my liking but enjoyed their freshly fired up pizza. Salads were impressive! Get the Farmer's plate so that you can sample various salads they offer here (pick 3 from their salad menu). The lemony & refreshing dressing on their version of Caesar salad is so good. Shaved asparagus salad with arugula & feta also a good side salad. The roasted fingering potatoes were simple, cooked well, & delicious too. I will be sure to come back and try their pastas too. I can tell you this, without hesitation or reservation, the people here care and the food was excellent. My first experience here was less than stellar. The crew reached out to me and they stated that they were not only sorry, they wanted another crack at my business. The gentleman that wrote me not only seemed sincere, but when I accepted his offer he wrote back and his gratitude was palpable. I was surprised but also impressed. These were no form letters. I walked in and it seemed like a different place. Btw, I left town to see family and it was mote than a month before my return. They had no idea who I was or that I was returning. There were plenty of ppl eating outside, the to-go orders were deep, but what stuck out for me was the guy working the pizza oven. He was attentive and was managing and moving quite a few pies. You can take my word for it or look at the pic I included below of my pie. The service was friendly, expedient, and the customers friendly. I mean, what more can one ask for? I've been in the service industry for a long time and I appreciated the reminder that anybody can have an off night. Moreover, I really appreciated the opportunity because this place is THE BUSINESS! It's been a while since my first review, and I wanted to post a quick update. There have been several management and staff changes since I first posted a review. I'm not sure about you, but I tend to appreciate places that keep their staff and you can develop relationships with people over time. It also tends to say something of the ownership, employee compensation, and culture of a place when it can keep employees. They seem to have abandoned some of the most beloved pizzas from the past. The Brussels sprouts and bacon pizza and the Big Sur pizza were both family favorites in our household. Both have been axed. Also, the pizza size and pricing model has changed. It used to be a fairly decent size individual pizza (perfect for a large eater, a little extra for a light eater) that would range from $10.50-12.50 or so per pie. They've since increased the size of the pizza slightly (and the box it comes in dramatically), and upped the price to about $14-15.50/pizza. That might actually be preferable to some people who want to split a pizza and something else, but it's worth noting. Pitfire might have lost half a half star for losing some good pizza options and keeping their staff, but Yelp doesn't allow fractional star ratings. We'll continue to eat here, just not quite as often as we had before. It used to be a lunch and dinner spot for us, but now it's an occasional takeout dinner. read more

This is a gluten free review. Ordered Zoe's Pepperoni on a gluten free crust and a side salad. Pizza had fantastic flavor. A little over cooked, which made most of the crust inedible. I was also confused why I received croutons on my salad. The menu didn't say it came with croutons and I ordered a gluten free pizza. Nevertheless, the salad complimented the pizza well. If it wasn't for the service, I would give this place 3 stars. The guy who took my order was super nice and threw in a free cookie for my wife. If I'm in the area, I'll be back. read more

My favorites: - field mushroom pizza - zoe's pepperoni The mushroom has three different types of mushrooms and fontina cheese with thyme. If you're a mushroom lover, then this is a great pizza. Zoe's pepperoni is basically a Margherita with pepperoni. It's very simple but delicious. The ingredients are fresh and the sauce isn't bad. I organized a pizza party for my birthday at Pitfire. I had the wherewithal to call in advance to see if I could reserve a table for 20 people and sure enough, they had room for us. Katie Snowden was a breeze to deal with. I had the option of letting everyone order or doing a pre-order so I opted for the preorder since most people had never been to Pitfire before. She sent me a sample menu via email and we made changes as we went. I had a menu that included non-alcoholic drinks, 10 pizzas, 3 family sized pastas, and 2 salads. They set us up in a private area in the back of the restaurant by the entrance of Pie Society. Everything was served family-style and we passed the dishes around. We started off with the salads, one was completely vegetarian and one had chicken. Both were delicious. I'm really glad they gave us the option because I had a few guests who were vegetarians. The pastas we had were mac & cheese and spinach linguine with bolognese sauce. We loved the mac & cheese so we had two orders of that. The pasta was perfectly al dente with just the right amount of bite. The sauce was cheesy and there was a smattering of bread crumbs on top. It could have used more crumb but we were hungry. The linguine was also very good and it disappeared quickly. For the pizzas, we had a variety: green egg & ham, sausage party, pepperoni, burrata, margherita, and garlic chicken. All were really great pizzas but my favorites were the green egg & ham and the burrata. The green egg and ham had spinach, ham and a lovely oozy egg which we fought over to dip our crust in. The burrata pizza had caramelized onions, toasted hazelnuts, and arrugula. It was really tasty. Again I was happy to have so many different pizzas for my guests to try. Our server, Jordan, was great. He brought out drinks and the food. He was a champ dealing with our massive group. They even brought out a cookie sundae with a candle on it for me. My friends sang "Happy Birthday" and I was thrilled that they were having a great time. Thanks to everyone who attended and thanks to Pitfire for filling our tummies with delicious food. read more

The staff are very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is large with many nice places to sit and watch games or just enjoy the music they have playing. The pizza was very good. Thin crust with great flavor and quality toppings. A side of ranch was $2+ which seemed like a lot and there was an additional charge for "happy and healthy surcharge." We came by for lunch after a long wknd at beach rental a few miles down. Why five stars? Off the bat, service was very friendly and attentive considering we were the first ones there at 11am the morning of the World Cup Finals. In addition, there was a big party of 16 of us (plus two fur babies), we commandeered the tables and even moved things around a bit. And since it was a bit warm, some folks trickled in and sat at the table directly inside. The server came by and opened up their large bay windows so that our group didn't feel so segregated. It was awesome! Although we all placed separate orders, we pretty much just shared everything. I opted for the Sausage Party (which 3 others also ordered) that had Bacon, Sausage, Salami, Coppa, Tomato, Saba. First off, the crust was awesome. Very crisp while retaining that great chewy texture. I was a fan of all the various proteins--though next time, I think I'll add some fresh arugula to cut through all the saltiness. I also tried the Burrata - Caramelized Onion, Arugula, Pesto, Hazelnuts and my niece added prosciutto on top. I really enjoyed the creamy burrata and the nice contrast of texture the hazelnuts gave. My sis ordered the Big Sur -Gulf Shrimp, Tomato, Four Cheese, Mint, Chile and added prosciutto and fresh arugula. That was fantastic. What can I say, we like to customize things! I snagged a bite of my other nieces Smashed Avocado Toast which was nice along with the Grilled Broccolini. I really enjoyed how much char the Broccolini had - YUM! My family and I were vacationing at Ballboa islands for the weekend and staying overnight at Balboa resort . Through the DoorDash app, I ordered 2 pizzas for my husband and I. The delivery arrived within the timeframe. My pizza was the 4 cheese pizza with black olives and extra goat cheese costing close $20. When I opened the box....half of the pizza was burnt black, charred, smelt burnt and not at all edible. Don't understand how this pizza passed the quality check!!! So disappointed....it was our weekend at the resort and my dinner was burnt. Had to order something else from another restaurant. Posting pictures. Mmmmm, pizza, pasta, beer, cocktails all under one roof! What more can I ask for? I was able to satisfy my pasta cravings with their house spaghetti and chicken meatballs. Surprisingly each bite was flavorful and tender and not too dry. I was delighted to find the basil leaves throughout the pasta entrée as well. Ordering is at the counter and they give you a # like at Corner Bakery, StoneFire Grill, Panera, etc. Cocktails are only available from Pie Society, but their beer is on tap. You get a flight of 3 for $8. We also ordered a personal Sausage Party pizza, which was slightly more on the salty side and ours had more of a blackened, burnt crispy bottom than the other pizzas in our party. Despite the burnt parts and slightly high salt level, I still enjoyed the pepperoni, salami, sausage, and crispy bacon pieces on the pizza. They also ran out of ice cream that evening, but we were given a cookie to try for dessert. I love cookies, so that was pretty awesome for them to do so. I also love when there's plenty of parking on both sides of the building. I did get lost trying to find this place because we were originally given the address to Pie Society. Upon arrival, we learned that Pie Society is located at the back of the restaurant behind a private door (kind of like the Blind Rabbit from Anaheim Packing House). I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Bar tenders and servers were so friendly. Walk in and find a bunch of families with younger children. But keep walking and you'll find the fun scene. Happy hour was the best! $5 for a personal pepperoni pizza? Or chicken meatballs? That's what I'm talking about. About pizza: you could tell the dough was fresh- it was soft and crunchy. It was baked perfectly, and the sauce was also very flavorful. Even just plain pepperoni pizza was tasty! The cocktails were on point. I enjoyed reading the menu because of all of the creative names for the drinks. They have a bunch of alcohol infused with something or other--which you can really taste in the drinks! We tried the high school mixtape (tequila infused with cilantro and jalepeno? yes.) and the true blue. Both had flavors that complimented each other really well in the drinks. And pretty strong too--thanks bar tender! I want to come back and check out the scene at night; there were a bunch of signs about "throwback night" or other themed nights.
