The only reason this restaurant earned 2 stars is because the service was excellent. Without that, it would've been a 1 star experience. The food itself tasted good, but the portion size was shockingly small for the price. I didn't order a kids' meal, yet the amount of food I received looked like one--and I'm someone who doesn't even eat a lot. I was still hungry afterward. I paid over $20 for this meal, and it simply wasn't worth it. I ate at two other restaurants this week, spent less than $20 at each, and the food there was far better and portions larger and absolutely worth every penny. Pitt Grill is your typical early morning greasy spoon. Mostly breakfast menu, but they do have lunch and dinner, considering that they are open 24 hours. The food is basic, but tasty, nothing sophisticated, just good comfort food. Much better than corporate breakfast restaurants. The decor is basic diner, and there are a lot of signs up that would seem to be discouraging, but I am presuming the only reason they are there is because they have had problems with people offending things there before. My recommendation is either the Colorado omelette or the Philly cheesesteak omelette. Full of meat and tasty and comes with a stack of three pancakes. Another good choice is the cake and eggs, where you get eggs your way, sausage, bacon, pancakes, and either hashbrowns or grits . If you walk away, hungry, it's your own darn fault. Their burgers are pretty good and they make a pretty decent Cuban sandwich as well. And the sweet potato fries are really tasty. (And if you want to have a little fun with the waitresses, ask for a cup of Joe rather than a cup of coffee. Full disclosure, this is a diner, type restaurant, not fine dining. If you're a high maintenance type person and have to have everything just so, maybe this place is not for you. Now let's get down to business. I've been there several times and have never been disappointed. All of my visits have been during breakfast hours. I've always had good service and some of the best coffee that I've ever tasted. I've had a few of the breakfast offerings, but they usually hover around eggs, omelettes, pancakes, breakfast meats, etc. All good. They don't have a lot of fancy signage on the outside, so you have to be on the lookout if you're gonna look it up. I've been there many times and it's gotten worse and worse. Last time we waited one hour and only had 2 other people there to eat. Then a couple more tables came and when we saw they had all gotten their food and were leaving we asked where ours was and they said my chicken sandwich takes a long time to cook. What? Then we decided To try again today and same loud mouth cook was there and we got burnt bacon and undercooked onion rings while he ran his mouth the whole time. The waitress is good but she saw and she knew the bacon was burnt but it seems they are all afraid to say something to the cook. So I guess they give up good tips out of fear of making him recook something burnt or having him hurry up faster than one hour to cook a chicken sandwich and an egg plate. I have had the biscuits and gravy with eggs and bacon that is crispy with a side of french toast that was delicious. I have had a couple of different burgers on different occasions and both were grilled to perfection with seasoning. I have had several other items. I would definitely recommend this place to any one that is looking for good down home cooking. To begin, if you're a neat freak, this isn't the place for you. However, if you like to feel like you're eating with family and friends surrounding you, this is perfect! There's no need for boring formalities since the staff is super relaxed and friendly, and the food is straight out of grandmas kitchen. I've never gotten anything dry, overcooked, undercooked, etc. There was only one time where I requested three eggs, yolk runny and ONE came out wrong. I didn't say anything, but the waitress noticed immediately, whisked it back to the kitchen, and made them remake the entire plate for me! LOL. This place has been there for years and it is favorite of our when going to the airport in Alexandria. The staff is great and provide great service with a friendly smile. Our server today Alexandro was sweet and could not be nicer. I had a shrimp Po Boy which was prepared perfect with plenty of crispy shrimp crispy lettuce on a baguette and tartar sauce. I had onion rings perfectly prepared. My wife had pancakes and crispy bacon yummy our daughter had a patty melt no onions and fries. All was great. I'm upgrading my review to three stars due to the management reaching out to me and investigating my complaint and had a very good response. I may upgrade my review again if I go back and actually get to try the food and under an hour. Until then I'll leave it as a three but if the food is as good as the management cares then I'm sure I'll be upgrading my review. We have been here over an hour and still no food. Sad because this place is very empty. I now why. Waitress is half way trying but with 12 customers and 3 waitresses the cook needs help. I came in the morning of Black Friday and it wasn't as bad as I thought but the blonde ( and I mean BLONDE ) waitress that we had didn't know squat about the menu and she just kept going back and forth looking like a chicken with her head cut off. We told her three times we didn't want any drinks but she wouldn't take our order under we ordered them first so okay we ordered and I said to her I didn't want to bring any drinks out until all our food came and she said fine. Then the heifer bring out all the drinks so I was pretty pissed. The food took long and when I got it I wasn't happy at all I saw black men back there cooking so I thought I was good. MAN those eggs was soft and nasty as hell. The cheese they put on them were sliced cheese that wasn't even melted. The pancakes tasted so funny it messed up my appetite for the real food I purchased. Disappointing. I read several great reviews and was determined to find this place so the family could try it out. With all the positive reviews, I just knew it was a great choice. If you're not looking carefully, you'll miss it. We walked in right at 3 o'clock. We were told to sit anywhere so we found a place and sat down. The waitress took our drink order and delivered our drinks really quickly. We looked over the menu, made our choices and waited patiently. We waited about 25 minutes and I started to wonder why our waitress had not come back to us. She was very attentive to the family sitting a few tables down from us and the gentleman that sat behind us. The place had maybe 10 -12 customers including us. I happened to see another waitress so I politely waved and asked if we could place our order. She informed me that she was off duty and that our waitress would be right with us. She pointed toward where I assumed our waitress was. We waited about 10 more minutes and left. Overall, the service was disappointing. The food, who's knows? Anyways, my bill was brought pretty soon after I begun eating. Whatever, I put my card on the bill and it wasn't taken during the multiple times my waitress came to the table. When my card was taken and the receipt was brought back, the young waitress then said "I need you to sign this" and stood there waiting for me to sign and put a tip. Pretty odd - I've never had this occur before in all of my travels. I'm not sure if they have issues with people not signing their credit card receipts? Pit grill is a small mom and pops location. From the outside it does not look to inviting. However, they have some of the best mom and pops food. I have eaten here twice and each time I was greeted very fast and service for drinks was fast. During busy times it can take a while for the food. The shrimp Basket was hot and fresh. The avocado burger was outstanding. There is nothing on the menu that is standard drive thru items except the drinks. You will definitely like the food and the prices.
