I often silently pondered this question when spotting the many drinkers about the city on my lunch break, until a friend tipped me off that the beverage trend was courtesy of Easy Way. This iced tea chain hails from Taiwan with Asian-inspired, tropical flavour combos to match. Though bubble tea - that is, sweetened milky tea with added 'pearl' tapioca balls - is the focus of their menu, they also sell blended ice drinks, smoothies, and chilled black and green tea with injections of fruit flavours. This streetside edition on the way into Central Station became nothing short of an addiction for me last summer, my old office located just across Belmore Park. My regular order was either the chilled green passionfruit tea with squishy little lychee jellies, or chilled black mango tea with chewy taro pearls. The liquid component is ridiculously sugary, but these massive ice cold treats are easily shared between two people and with extra ice can be watered down to a more palatable level of sweetness.

They even have coffee in XL size - like a huge Starbucks drink! One star down for prices - I paid $8.60 for a large coffee + breakfast wrap (and that was the combo deal price). Ouch, that's the price of lunch! I made a promise to myself that I would never be one of those people who spend a similar amount on breakfast as lunch and I broke that rule. His whole lower face (he's pretty messy) turned bright red and sore. I mentioned this to the store when I next visited and they just looked a bit bemused and insisted only the freshest ingredients were used. Finally, we bought a garlic bread with our takeaway pasta and for some reason I checked the foil before I cooked it at home. It was mouldy. I took it straight back to the store where the manager offered me another one. I declined (a little green around the gills) and he somewhat begrudgingly gave me a refund. That took the edge off for me. I'd love to say I still love the stuff in here but it's pretty hard for me now. The cheesecake here is pretty good too. Smooth and not too thick so you don't get sick of it after a few mouthful. I had the linguine pasta with chilli, shrimp and rocket. I personally found it a little too bland for my liking and wish there was more flavor. The dish just somehow lacks a kick. Overall a decent cafe for desserts and meetup :/

For a start it really bugs me when cafe's charge extra for soy milk in a piccolo. I'm no tight-arse but charging 50c extra for a tablespoon of milk is just rude in my opinion. I never complain but I do take my business to businesses that are less greedy! So the $4.10 (!!) coffee was strike one against Maisy's. The coffee was actually alright- or would have been if my piccolo wasn't more like a 1/2 latte. I guess they wanted to give me my 50c worth of soy milk! That would be sweet if the point of a piccolo wasn't the small amount of milk involved. Lovely staff but Meh.

Found next to the Landsdowne hotel is Mr Bing Gourmet Wrapz, who do several different types of Jian Bing, from Chinese, Korean, to Taiwanese, and an Aussie style one. The Anglicised term for Jiang Bing would be fried egg pancake similar to a scallion pancake and it's pretty much a breakfast street food in parts of Asia. If you like crepes, kebabs, burritoes, scallion pancakes, and omelettes, you will like Jiang Bing. I haven't had a good Jiang Bing in a while so I opted for the Taiwanese style one with pork floss, bao cui (fried cracker,) and Taiwanese mayo ($5.90.) Taiwanese style Jiang Bing's are typically thinner and moister than their Chinese counterparts. AWESOME. UGHHH I WANT ANOTHER ONE. I also got a Taiwanese style braised beef one ($9.90) where the meat is braised just like the beef in Beef Noodle Soup (Niu Rou Mian.) I couldn't finish this, not because it wasn't tasty but because one of these is pretty huge. It's not as wide as say a burrito from Guzman, but it's definitely longer so it's probably the same altogether. While the beef one was tasty, I can't justify spending $9.90 on this...it just seems like it's overpriced for the contents...though if you don't mind the price by all means order it and enjoy it. The pork floss on the other hand is awesome at $5.90....ordering 2 of these would be massive overkill, but delicious overkill for less than $12. Definitely will be coming back for some pork floss goodness.
