Been wanting to try this place, as the pizza looks great and the reviews are excellent. Walked in…read moreabout an hour before they closed, and about an hour before the entire family was to go on a 4 week vacation. They work hard, they deserve it! This wonderful lady greeted me (I wish I would have gotten her name) and explained they were out of pizza dough! I came in for the pizza and explained that this is the only pizzeria that I can find in Germany or France (in Marseille - supposedly a pizza mecca) that had Salsiccia (sausage / wurst) on their pizza. In the U.S. sausage is a standard offering, but apparently not in Europe. Anyway, she was very nice and showed me the Salsiccia they had left. I asked them if it is was possible for them to just make me a Salsiccia sandwich, and she very politely said, yes! I said I'm simple, just bread and sausage is all I need. I grabbed a Hefeweizen and anxiously waited. What they brought out was something spectacular (see pic). A nice crusty bread, salsiccia, marinated and sautéed cherry tomatoes, fresh Basil with slices of Buffalo Mozzarella (Buffelmozzarella) on the side. The Salsiccia was fantastic, a little mild (compared to the U.S.) but with extraordinary flavor. The tomatoes added something I was not expecting and the fresh buffelmozzarella was delicious. Oh, and that light, crusty bread, just like I like it. What a wonderful sandwich, not even on the menu, but maybe it will be! When I was finished, I thanked every one of them that I could see, especially the lady who greeted me and the man who made that very special sandwich. As great as that sandwich was, the best part of the night, for which I truly thanked them for, was for them treating me like family! They didn't have to do what they did, they could have said, sorry, see you later. But they went out of their way to make me feel welcomed and appreciated. They treated me like family, I will never forget that! To Everyone at Rossofuoco, thank you, very much!!! I hope you had (or are having) a safe and wonderful vacation! I will see you on my next trip to Erlangen.

The "Locanda" was recommended as an authentic Italian Restaurant. Reservation went smoothly and the…read morewaiter remembered the phone call and we had the choice of two tables. The outside seating area was nice too, with a great view of the "Schlossplatz". The inside is decorated tastefully, with a full bar, cocktails and (pro tip!) Happy Hour! It was quiet enough to have a conversation and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering it's a prime location in this quiet university town. But most importantly: how is the food? Well, it was very good! I always like to try the Bruschetta, because while the Pizza is often good, the Bruschetta often isn't. Here it was very good! You get three slices of bread with a generous topping of diced tomatoes, arugula, pesto and freshly grated parmesan. There were large pieces, so it way grated manually from a fresh block. Nice! The main entree was pizza, and it looked great! The waiter had warned us that their pizzas were large, and they were! The dough was crispy and the crust was chewy, just the way I like it. One thing I didn't like was that the pizza was so large, that it touched the table. Big pizzas are great, but bigger plates to match would be awesome. I don't know how well they clean the tables, but I'd rather eat off a plate than off the table. My second complaint is the sparsity of the topping. There is very little salame on the pizza salame. I'd rather have a slightly smaller pizza and a little more topping. Tip: maybe order some extra topping. But other than that, the pizzas were good, and too large to finish. Another tip: they offer half/half pizzas, it's large enough to feed two and leave some room for dessert. That an idea for the next visit...

On my last full day this trip to Erlangen, I walked around the central part of the town and came…read moreacross this little cafe. The combination of me starving past noon and the inviting facade/outside menu called to me to come in and try this cafe out. The inside is a nice atmosphere, with a combination of cafe and bistro type of decor. Definitely looks like a great place to have some wine and share a few moments with someone while enjoying some good eats. The staff was very helpful and positive, and service came quickly to acknowledge me (I hate waiting, just a personal thing). My server was quick to offer any help or translations as needed and any recommendations as well. The bread that came to the table was fresh, soft, and delicious so I was looking forward to what the entrees offered. From the menu on the board and from the server's descriptions, I decided on getting the Saltimbocca. This entree of veal topped with cheese and prosciutto was excellent. Taste and portion were spot on. The accompanying pasta was a bit generic in a light tomato sauce...it wasn't bad but it didn't stand out either and was lackluster. The same for the salad in that it was nice, crisp, and fresh but pretty bland (good though). However the entree was the great standout and I was happy with my choice. Bottom line: Nice cafe/bistro type atmosphere to get some wine and eats. Entree choice and bread I enjoyed here were amazing and delicious but accompanying items were a bit generic. All in all, I enjoyed my visit here though and would try them again in the future. I'm definitely a fan.
