They sell giant slices here. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 b/c I always have to order extra cheese (everytime I go) on the cheese slice. It doesn't have enough cheese.Other than that crust is perfect & sauce tastes good. When I'm around Castle Hill I have to get a cheese slice w/ extra cheese. Staff is really friendly. Inside is pretty small so if you're not lucky enough to find a table or bar stool chair you'll have to eat it in your car. read more

I love this pizza, but not the feeling of being priced gauged and taken advantage of. The price has increased F O U R times in the last year! It's ridiculous. The regular slice is now $5 bucks. I always order Large or Extra Large, extra cheese, cooked light pies (big family) and they are always fresh, saucy and cheesy....everything you want in a pizza! I have noticed the individual slices that customers get while I'm waiting for my order, and they tend to look like they've been sitting for a while and are more on the "well-done" side without you requesting it - so just keep that in mind. If possible, order a whole pie, that's guaranteed to be fresh and cooked to order. The other pitfall is that they do not deliver - anywhere. So if you're in the mood for pizza and feeling lazy, it can be a hassle - this is my reason for 4 instead of 5 stars. If I could give 0 starts I would. The pizza is great tho. The owner sucks ! Every time my mom and I have met the owner even separately he was always a dick. Super sarcastic and asshole like. So when we order our pizzas we always ask for extra crispy, cut into pieces because it's a huge pizza and in a box since we always get more than 1 slice with mad garlic knots, because it usually gets all squishy and messy in the bag and the grease goes everywhere. It's NEVER EVER been an issue. And the workers know this so we don't ever have to ask them. This is the first time we ever went this early so the owner was there and when she asked for it cut and in a box he flipped out and said she was asking for too much, started talking about her blonde hair, called her an Irish bitch, said he's going to punch her and to get her husband. Franks Pizza Italia was so good, we came back 2 days later to get more before we left New York. The pizza is huge and the slices take two hands to eat! The $4 price per slice is well worth it since it is twice the size of most pizza joints in NY charging $3 for a much smaller and inferior slice! Frank and his staff are pleasant and even entertaining! He likes to joke around and is full of interesting stories. We would definitely come back when in the Bronx. If we could give it more than 5 stars we would! Our only comment is they need to find a way to ship the pizza to other states or bring that delicious awesomeness down south to Florida where they don't know how to make a real NY Pizza! read more

The large pie used to be bigger than other pizzerias but now it's a standard large pie. Considering you can go to any nearby pizzerias and get a large pie for $18-20 for the same size vs $26 for a large pie here. A box for anything less than 3 slices 1.25. I posit the following question. Does size matter? As a man of the Hebrew persuasion, my instinct is to answer in the negative. Humbly, I must confess the sad truth. Length and girth matter a great deal... at least when it comes to a slice of pizza at Pizza Italia, which is located at 772 Castle Avenue, Bronx, NY. Long ago I heard the myth of a pizza place in the Bronx that served slices the length of Neptune's trident and that tasted like manna from the gods. I immediately dismissed the existence of such a slice as mere folklore. Yet, with each journey I embarked upon to the Bronx, I asked myself, could such a thing exist? While I dismissed with great haste any such notion time and again, today I found myself unable to ignore such possibility any longer. As I found myself on the Cross Bronx mired in a traffic jam, thanks to Robert Moses, my mind and stomach wandered back to my Moby Dick. With great alacrity I picked up the cellphone (figuratively at least, I was actually hands free as that's the law, but I digress) and I gave my friend, the Mighty Kahuna, a call, as he had passed on the fable to me all those years back. However, much to my chagrin, he said he would have to get back to me with the location. Dejectedly, I believed the dream to be over. Boy was I mistaken; in fact, it had just begun. Within seconds, the Mighty Kahuna called and gave me the address of the finest Pizzeria I have ever been to... in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx. When I entered the place, I was wholly unimpressed. Frankly, it's a bit of a hole in the wall. I looked around and thought to myself, "self, am I in the right place"? There are a few tables in the joint, most of which were open. Like a gunslinger from the Wild West, I mosied to the counter and ordered myself up a twospot, sans the sasparilla. Buzz kill... two slices were taken from a tray sitting on the counter and thrown in the oven. I hate reheats, but I took solace in the fact that the refugee slices left behind appeared to be fresh. I did not grasp the true magnitude of these bad boys until I saw one isolated slice on a silver tray. It was at that moment that it dawned upon me...this was no myth, this was reality. Within seconds, 50 pounds of pizza made its way onto a tray. Before I continue, a few observations. One, the slices are genuinely inspiring. In fact, I am certain my jaw dropped to the rather unattractive linoleum floor. Two, the cheese looked perfectly melted, and the crust looked crunchy. What caught my eye, however, was the texture of the crust. It appeared to have either garlic, or onions baked onto it. Upon tasting it, I was unable to discern whether it was one or the other or a combination of the two or something else. When I asked an employee whether it was onions or garlic, he responded rather mysteriously, "I cannot divulge that secret." This only piqued my curiosity. FYI, the Mighty Kahuna thinks it's polenta, but I dismiss such notion outright. And so the eating frenzy began. I must confess that I did not think I would be able to eat two slices of this pizza. I was wrong. The first slice was so good that I could not resist devouring the second with reckless abandon. And I did not struggle with the second. In fact, when I was done, being the pizza glutton that I am, I craved a third. However, I chose to abstain from such slobbery. In retrospect, I am glad I made that decision. Rarely does the second slice taste better than the first. Remarkably, however, this time it did. I am not sure why. On this go around, I truly savored the slice and found the cheese to be ideal. I am shit sure a third slice would have been a disappointment. How could it not be? Let me get back on track. This is high quality cheese. Its texture is perfect. It does not drip from the slice. Yet, it is soft and creamy. To this day, I remain stunned by this cheese. No need to be saucy here; the sauce is perfect (Yelp made me remove 4 sentences on the sauce... had to slice somewhere - bush league Yelp!). Back to the crust, this slice has some backbone. As noted previously, not only does the top of the crust scream texture, but the back of the slice does, as well. In this regard, the secret concoction that is applied to the various surfaces of this gargantuan triangle transform it into a multi-dimensional meal unlike anything I have ever experienced. Other joints have tried similar tricks, including using sesame seeds on the crust (can you say ewwww), but no one has ever had the balls (or vagina) to break on through to the other side the way Pizza Italia has. My one gripe is that the roof of my mouth was completely shredded up by these little crusty nubs. In sum, if you don't get to Pizza Italia immediately to try this unbelievable culinary delight, then I consider you to be a complete and utter asshole. read more
