My boyfriend and I order Pizza Luce for takeout once a week. It's a treat for us. We live in the Duluth area and have been ordering from them for years. I've never left a review because what we get from week to week is all over the place. I'm leaving one today because we are frustrated with paying really high prices for either amazing food, or as we received tonight, not at all what we paid for. We love the butternut squash pizza they offer in the fall. Last week we got an amazing 12 inch butternut squash pizza with extra squash, and some goat cheese thrown in. Tonight we ordered the same pizza and got a burnt pizza with not even a regular amount of butternut squash and a smattering of goat cheese. This cost us over $40.00. It tasted horrible because there were hardly any toppings and it was burnt to the point of being difficult to bite into. Add in a 25% tip and two pieces of carrot cake and we are out almost $70.00 at this point. Tonight we decided it isn't worth the gamble to get either amazing food or inedible food, especially at the cost we are paying now. It's too much money for this much inconsistency. I'm really sorry to be giving them one star, some weeks it would be five, but what we got tonight wasn't acceptable for the cost and it's happening 50% of the time. Everything I ordered was truly phenomenal tasting and the delivery was ultra fast. The fire breathing dragon pizza was out of this world. I've never tasted flavors like that on a pizza. I was a little hesitant to order it because I assumed it would be great or a huge miss but I'm glad I took the risk. The tiramisu, although very funny looking, was delicious. I actually took a picture so I could laugh at it later... I've never seen a tiramisu look like a cookie ice cream before, but the flavors were authentic so I'll let it slide. My only complaint is that the portion sizes are really small for the price they charge, but it's a pandemic and we have to support, especially if the taste is great. read more

Pizza Luce lives up to the hype. Minnesota renowned, there are locations around the Cities and this one in Duluth. I had been there once before the pandemic and I enjoyed the bar scene and live music. This time was about the pizza. I was wiped out from hiking, unsure where to eat, and my dinner window quickly closing. What really sold me was the offer of free delivery. My pizza was faster than their anticipated delivery so I was surprised when there was a knock on my 9TH FLOOR hotel room door. I had expected I'd have to go downstairs. What service! The Vesuvio is amazing. After my earlier sammie was too hot from the giardiniera, I ordered it light on only half. It was perfect. The light peppers were balanced so well with the chonky meatballs and smooth dollops of ricotta. Ordered through their website for pickup and food was ready within 20 minutes. This place was a couple blocks from my hotel. Pizza tasted great and had a good amount of sauce, cheese and topping coverage. Spinach lasagna was on their specials menu and you can choose what sauce you like. I hate this place. I hate that no matter how full I am, that I'll always want to eat more of their food. I don't really hate them, but I do really worry about how much added weight I gain when I'm eating here. I love the ambience, the late hours, the happy hour, the variety of Italian food (I'll be honest, I'd be just as content with just the pizza), and even the cans they serve the pizzas on. Claiming a favorite pizza is like suggesting a favorite book or movie in a sea of notable peers, but there is no question this is Duluth's finest pizza. The pizzas themselves are not as unique as some of the quirkier versions you see emerging elsewhere, and they don't need to be. Lucé knows that it's serving quality pies that need nothing but a mouth and stomach to please. Fresh ingredients are obvious from the first bite to last. And just in case you are unlike me and can exercise some self-control, they sell the staples and daily specialties by the slice. I stopped by here two Friday evenings ago by myself for dinner. I was walking around downtown Duluth and checked Yelp for a pizza place and pizza Luce was the top one. It was a little further away than I had hoped but if you know me at all, I let very little stand in the way of me and good pizza. So I headed over there. Whenever you first walk inside there is a dining room. Since it was about 3/4 of the way full and I was a single person, I opted for the bar instead. Interestingly it's through a separate door although it does have the full food menu. It has lots of wood including wood panels and wood looking floors. They actually had a pretty good happy hour with 3.00 taps, 3.00 rails and 4.00 wines from 3-6. If I wasn't running a marathon the next morning I would have imbibed one of their local beers. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with a small baked potato pizza. The menu describes it as a smothered pizza crust in buttery, garlic baby red mashed potatoes and topped with broccoli, fresh-diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese and chopped bacon and served with a side of sour cream. It's sauce was the garlic baby Red mashed potatoes which made it somewhat interesting. However when combined with the other ingredients it definitely tasted like you were eating stuffed mashed potatoes. The crust here was also pretty good as it was cooked perfectly throughout. I did think something was missing with the pizza, maybe something spicy or another textured item. Yes you had the bacon but it didn't provide that crunch I was looking for. Still it was a pretty good pizza and I was not sad that I had ordered it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I liked the pizza that I had but I was eyeing up their jerk pizza which I didn't order as I had a marathon the next day. read more

I literally traversed across a giant dirt hole in the ground to get to this restaurant, and I would do it again. I am so sick of places offering gluten free choices that are disgusting. Pizza Luce is great. I had a ton of choices; even one of the specials was gluten free. Everything from drinks to appetizers were delicious. Sorry, no pictures, but the nearest comparison I can make is to say "It was on par with the $5 Little Caesar's Hot-n-Ready pizza", except of course being more expensive. In town to speak at a convention and (because I'm a glutton for punishment) had my daughter (17) and two of her friends along. 1 is vegan and the other a vegetarian. My daughter is neither but is picky. Luckily, I remembered that there is Pizza Luce in town so I knew there would be at least one meal where everyone was happy and I was not disappointed. The girls all loved their pizzas and my Fire Breathing Dragon was especially incredible. As an added bonus the delivery was surprisingly fast and all the extra items I requested were included. For dessert I got tiramisu which is the only reason I couldn't give this place 5 stars and had to do 4 - it was so dry and too thick. The lady fingers had not been properly or evenly soaked. It's like coming home. This was the very first location of a Pizza Luce I had ever been to when I was a teenager visiting my sister who was in Duluth for college and I was hooked from the first Baked Potato Pizza that I tried. It still holds its trendy hipster charm among the rest of Duluth's Northern Minnesota Taconite Country vibe. It is also home to one of the coolest shared bathrooms I have ever seen (wanted to get a picture, but that is kinda being a creep). We had the tried and true Baked Potato Pizza. It is like magic how they can get their crust so chewy and full of texture and with a hint of sweetness. The broccoli on the pizza is always super green and fresh and you can't beat mixing that with bacon, cheddar cheese, and garlic mashed potatoes. Grab a beer and you are set (in my case, water to off-set the carb overload). You are also minutes away from Canal Park, so once you are done eating, walk down to the pier and watch one of the large ships come into port. read more

Offers no apology, just complete annoyance that I actually dare call to ask. Wow, you are most certainly wowing me with your lack of any effort on service. Food comes after 9pm, two hours after we placed the order. Delivery guy offers no apology. Guess what Pizza Luce? If you can't handle TWO measly delivery's in a 1.5 hour time frame, then DON'T OFFER DELIVERY. The service here was appalling. I'm not equal to a dine in customer, but you took my money the same? I stumbled in a little past midnight & was relieved to find a kitchen open. Cold beer, a good amount of people for a Tuesday night & a jukebox. The happy hour prices were unbelievable. I ended the night with 2 high-quality IPA pints & a giant slice of pizza for $9. Great service & tons of toppings to select from especially when ordering a full sized pizza. I ordered the 10" Blue Dog pizza ($15.90 with tax). I can't say I've ever had asparagus on pizza but I was a fan. Plus, who can say no to bacon?
