One of my favorite food groups with a twist. We started our dinner with the Intermezzo salad. The salad contained large leafy greens and a strong poppyseed dressing. I liked the idea of little gems and farm eggs but those were hard to find. Next we had the Crowd Pleaser which I was really excited about because of the prosciutto! When the pizza finally came, there was only prosciutto on one half of the pizza... We were slightly confused. After telling the waitress, they kindly put more prosciutto on the other half of the round! whoot! But sadly that was the only good part of the pizza. The bottom was mildly burnt and the greens made the entire bite taste completely bitter. Maybe we should've said something? But I assumed this is what the crowd is asking for. Can't complain about what we are being pleased with! Lastly we had the Heavy Nettle. I just wanted the lamb meatballs and the stracciatella (since I thought that it only came in an ice cream form). This time, the pizza was baked perfectly and the meatballs and other ingredients were a beautiful compliment to the thinly baked dough. I was super happy with this one. Really yummy pizza! And I love that they are accommodating to vegan folks (they had vegan cheese upon request and/or you can get the Marina pie without the cheese.) The salads were also delicious. And they have a nice rotating beer/wine list. Don't pass up on the Calabrian chili oil at the table. My only gripes with this place were the noise level - my party of 3 went in at 6:30pm on a Saturday night - and the shared tables, which need to be wider, are too crowded to fit multiple items. I'd write a review of the food at PizzaHacker, but unfortunately, I never received my order! Let me explain. I placed an order at 6:31pm on April 7th online for a top shelf margarita pizza with an egg, 6-pack of beer, and one apple juice. I waited outside until 7:38pm while other customers who ordered after me began receiving their orders! I was able to confirm this fact by simply asking others waiting when they had placed their orders. One person placed an order at 6:45pm and received not one but two pizzas right in front me! I can only imagine how many others ordered past 6:31pm and received their orders before me as well! I wasn't going to ask every single person waiting what time they had placed their order. I just needed a few confirmations to determine what was going on. As the server was handing an order out to another customer, I asked flat out if they had even begun preparing my order?! The answer to my question was "sorry, it's how their ordering system works!" So I could only conclude based on their brilliant ordering system, that they didn't even begin preparing my order! Considering I had to be somewhere at 7:45pm, I instructed them to simply cancel my order. They accommodated my request shortly after which only verified the fact that they hadn't even begun preparing my food. Irritated that my dinner plans had taken a major detour, I left a message on their voicemail in a diplomatic tone explaining my frustration with what had transpired. I repeated my cell phone number twice to ensure they'd have it. I drove all the way up from San Bruno to wait outside for 45 minutes for an order that hadn't even reached the oven! One would think a business would be willing to make some sort of concession considering the time I had wasted. I was simply asking for an acknowledgement of the inconvenience I was put through, and some sort of effort to remedy the situation. Not to my surprise, I NEVER received a call back from anyone! I had also emailed "Jeff Krupman" directly whom I believe is the owner of the establishment with a summary of the situation. No response to my email either! Given the non-reply to my email and voicemail correspondence, I'll simply have to post my grievance here. The following day I decided to try another pizza joint in Glen Park called Giuliana's Pizza. The experience was 5-star all around, and I plan on writing a positive review of the establish soon. I placed an order over the phone along with two appetizers, and everything was ready in 20 minutes! Imagine that. You call a business, place a food order, your order is placed in a queue, and it's ready in a timely fashion. What's even more impressive with their system is that people who order after you don't get their orders before you. Perhaps the owner or employees of PizzaHacker should get some training from the people at Giuliana's Pizza, or most other pizza establishments I've frequented. I know where I'll be making my pizza orders for now on. The toppings on their pizzas are great but the noteworthy element is their crust. I heard that the mother dough is from Tartine and I believe it. It's a thin crust that has the perfect amount of chewiness and flavor without tasting like card board or Costco pizza. The Rocket Man is a go-to for me. The arugula that is lightly tossed in a vinaigrette compliments the garlic, fresh mozzarella, farm egg, lemon juice, chili paste and amplifies the crust (subtle sourdough taste, nice balance of chewy and crisp). This a great spot for a cheap, quick bite! I came with some coworkers after a hard day at work and the if the Calabrian chili sauce is not enough to cheer you up, then the dino kale is for sure to lift your spirits For 6 people we ordered 3 pizzas (top shelf margherita, short bridge, and a meatball special), and a kale caesar salad. The food was plenty for us, granted we did come from a bar right before. The service was fast and friendly and our pizzas came out in a short amount of time. Pizzahacker's pizzas are a thin crust pizza with just the right amount of sauce and are perfect amount for a few slices especially if you order a variety of pies and want to try each one. The short bridge pie was my personal favorite, I felt that it had the best flavor incorporating two different meats that created this salty, umami filled when eaten. Went to this place on a Friday night and was able to get a table for a large party pretty quickly. The inside has a nice vibe - skylights that brighten up the place, strung lights and lots of art that makes it feel cozy. Our group started with some Dino kale salad and got six different pizzas. Everything was great. The standouts were the top shelf margarita and the short bridge. The best thing about their pizzas is the crust, chewy and flavorful. I really wanted to enjoy this place as I've been waiting a few years to finally try it, but unfortunately I ended up with a burnt pie (burnt, not charred). I would have sent it back but didn't want to wait another 35+ minutes as I was too hungry. I ate the most burnt pieces from my pie and the photos are from the other half which were the least burnt ones, which says a lot. The oven may or may not have been in tune since the deck seemed to burn the crust far faster then the toppings would indicate. Maybe he forgot to check the skirt or maybe he didn't care, but a pizza that that is 90 percent burnt should be identifiable. As out of towners we followed the advice to give PizzaHackers a try. It didn't disappoint! We had the RocketMan and Yo Vinny pizzas. They were so delicious - chewy crust, bursting with flavor. They make most not everything from scratch essentially. Even the cheeses they use they make from the cheese curd stage. FYI all pizzas are 12inches. The ambiance was great, it felt authentic and real and not fake/put on. At the time they had the Alvarado Street Mai Tai IPA and the Bare Bottle Secret City Hazy IPA on tap and both were top notch. If you're looking for what I would call a hybrid of Napoletana and San Francisco style of pie, it doesn't get any better. Why do I think it's a hybrid you ask? You know how people always start reviews off with, 'I really wanted to like it but...' Well, I kind of straight up didn't want to like this place. Something about the name really digs at me. But I came anyway and the pizza was unreasonably good. Too legit, if I do say so myself. Inside is all communal seating... everyone's personal hell. But it is a great place to come with a group of 6-8 because then you won't have to share a table with one of the families who brought their screaming children along to bang plates, cry, and mash chalk on their giant chalkboard wall. When we got here that description could be applied to every table in the joint... so apparently it's family friendly if you're into that sort of thing. I'm not. But that pizza was sooo good. Thin crust, artisan toppings great combos, and they aren't jerk about adding our substituting stuff on their already put together pizza combos- in fact, it seemed pretty encouraged. They have a small but varied selection of beer and wine on tap and a few bottle offering as well. You'll notice salt, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, and Calabrian hot chili pepper oil on all the tables. If you like spicy, def dig into the Calabrian pot- I sauced up my already perfect pizza with it and it was some next level sh*t. I got the upgraded margherita pizza and also added kalamata olives and like I said before, it was perfect. Our service was super chill and the vibe is super casual to the point where you might not be sure if you just order at the counter of if this is the sit down and get a menu type place (it's the latter). I know, I know. I'm kind of bringing down the mood in the PizzaHacker review feed, raining on the proverbial parade. But hear me out - if the good people behind this place (and in front of it, for that matter) this pick up what I'm layin' down, beautiful things could happen here. I'm not a local - in fact I was a good 2,000 miles from home when I walked into PH. So I got the scoop on its background from the friends I was dining with, and suddenly it all made sense: PizzaHacker was the product of a food truck putting on the breaks and taking up a less mobile home in this space. The problem is - that's exactly what it feels like. On a food truck, the emphasis is on creating memorable, craving-inducing street eats. It also can't hurt to be friendly with those who wander up to your truck to create a sense of loyalty. It seems PH had these two aspects down pat, and they translated perfectly to the new space. Our server was a great guy, attentive and welcoming. The owner was on hand touching tables and hanging out with guests. The menu is simple, sticking to what they do best - thin crusts that somehow manage to be both crunchy and soft at the same time topped with innovative ingredients (with the requisite clever monikers, to boot). The Heavy Nettle was a massive hit - foraged nettles are a seriously rad pizza topping; who knew? Don't expect heavy toppings here - they're going for balance and I love it. With gourmet ingredients like these, I don't want a blanket of cheese to overpower it all. Rating solely on food and service, I would have given them 4.5 stars. But when dining (and especially if I'm going to pay $15/pizza), I'm looking for a full experience - and the atmosphere at PH needs a little help. I love the fun touch of the lights strung overhead, and I don't even mind the picnic table style seating. But when the dining room only gets a decent cleaning at the end of the night (napkins fell on the floor and stayed there, tables remained un-bussed for long periods of time, the singular bathroom for the entire place had standing water on the floor and was in pretty bad shape), the experience starts to suffer. In general, the space had an unfinished feeling - extra supplies lying out in the open, disorganized shelving where items just hadn't found a permanent home yet, and a starkness that left it feeling a little cold despite what could have easily been a more festive environment. Some adjustment with the lighting and the addition of something to soak up a little sound (it gets really loud with even a small crowd) would do wonders. And finally I have to mention the house red wine - an excellent value, but my god does it taste like straight up grape juice! If you love a sweet red, you're all set (and many of the pies are spicy, so a little sweet can't hurt I guess). I get that this is definitely a beer kind of place, but I'd love to see the wine list expand a little to create more interesting pairing with the pizzas. The good news, PizzaHacker? Living nearby I was happy to see a new pizza place emerge from a building that has held a bank, Rock Soup, and a Peruvian restaurant. Having heard of the FranenWeber pop ups, but me not wanting to be out and about after midnight, I was happy to see a brick and mortar for pizza. Let's face it, if you know this area there is not much decent pizza nearby. One may be fine for kids, and the other was very good a dozen + years ago, pizza pickings are slim. I've tried just about every pizza offered, but usually fall back to my standard Top Shelf Margherita or Yo Vinny, my favorite being the Yo Vinny. It is something about those marinated peppers. I always add a hefty dose of the chili paste. Toppings may be sparse, but that is the nature of a good pizza. I don't want tons of cheese or toppings; I want quality ingredients bringing everything together. That's what you get at PizzaHacker. Thin crust, properly charred in an electric oven that reads 666 degrees. An Intermezzo salad is available with poppy seed dressing, but ask for croutons. Beer and wine are available, but I usually opt for water. Some pizzas are added as toppings come into season. Not much in atmosphere, as tables consist of park tables and benches with chairs scattered. Children will have great fun with one wall being a chalkboard, while parents enjoy their meal. read more

When I got the pizza (top shelf marg), it was already a little cold which made me sad, but I should have put it into the oven to warm it up a bit, but it was good regardless. I definitely had it a couple days later and it was good. The margarita pizza was traditional and definitely so good. I also got the intermezzo salad (which was supposed to be similar to the salad from this great place in Berkeley). It wasn't the same salad since there wasn't as much of it, but it was pretty similar. The items were very similar, but I wished for more toppings since that's what I remembered from those salads. We ordered 5 pizzas for about 10 of us to share and that got us pretty satisfied. We had: - Margherita: it was good, but I'm more of a non-vegetarian type of eater - Yo Vinny!: This was is pretty much like a combo pizza and it was good as well. Nothing super amazing though - Rocket Man: This one was my favorite. It had argugla, pandano (some kind of really thin meat), lemon and a sunny side up egg. I love the combination of the lemon, arugula, and pandano. the only thing that sucks is that it's really hard to split the egg because it's just on once slice of the pizza. Wow. Just left the soft opening of the new Pizza Hacker brick & mortar on Mission. I couldn't be more impressed. As a Delfina loyalist, it is hard to admit that this might be the best pizza I have had in SF (or anywhere for that matter). First and foremost, the crust is perfect. Perfectly crispy, perfectly doughy, perfectly charred. Just perfect. Secondly, although it may be even more defining than the crust itself, is that the toppings don't overwhelm the crust. While still tasting the unique combinations of toppings on each pizza, you don't lose the crispiness or flavor of the crust. We shared the "Crowd Pleaser" & the "Get A Room." The Crowd Pleaser was great. With no tomato sauce, radiccho, dried figs, Point Reye's blue cheese & onion, it tasted almost like a crostini-pizza hybrid. No complaints here. The Get A Room, however, was the hands-down favorite (although we finished both pizzas without hesitation-an unusual feat for two small, eyes-bigger-than-their-stomach type of chicks). It's tomato & mozz were fabulous, and it didn't have too much of either. The Spanish chorizo, red onions, olives and hot cherry peppers were all in perfect proportion and married together wonderfully. Ive missed enough of PH's pop ups. Im glad there is a shop I can pop into now. I was in the area, already had dinner but as a True Gourmand, I can always eat more. Split a Yo Vinny with a friend... Marinated onions, goat horn peppers, 4505 hot Italian sausage, tomato sauce & fresh mozzarella. Thin, crisp crust, decent chew and nice balance of ingredients. A fine pie may I say. SF is picking up in the pizza arena and Im always glad a good new player steps up. read more
