I'm visiting Brasília currently and who better to explore the city with than with someone who grew up here and who can introduce me to the city's hidden gems...well, hidden for foreigners like myself, because when it comes to Dom Busco, this place is certainly not a secret place: it's an institution!
Dom Busco has been around since the beginning of time - that is since the city of Brasília was founded, which is round about 50 years by now. It's still a family-run and owned business and they have a few locations around town. This location is located in Aza Norte, the young & trendy part of town. From the outside it looks like nothing special and honestly I would've not set foot here, if I hadn't been in trusted hands. A classic hole-in-the-wall, so to speak.
At Dom Busco they bake pizza. And they only do one kind of pizza. In the Italian sense, I guess you would call it a Margherita as it has cheese and tomato sauce as toppings. And the traditional way to eat it is to buy two slices, which get folded on top of each other and then handed to you, wrapped in some tissue paper. (See photo)
It's delicious! It's the perfect hangover food after a long night out or just for a quick snack in-between. They also sell some mate tea and various fruit juices, which come out of the tap.
Do it!
Note: Another Brasília food institution is Beirute - they have two locations and one is very close by to Dom Bosco. read more
