The setting is part of the general airport structure, so the ambiance is a bit informal. The noise level can vary depending on the activity in the arrivals area--when we visited, a large group of excited passengers made it quite noisy. But if you're looking for a break after a long flight, this spot provides a nice respite.
Wolfgang Puck, originally from Styria in southern Austria, made a name for himself after moving to LA, where he became famous for his fusion-style pizzas and fine dining. Known for opening restaurants like Spago and catering for the Oscars, Puck has also ventured into more accessible food offerings, including frozen meals and airport dining. So, seeing one of his establishments at the airport isn't surprising, though this one leans more towards fast-casual than convenience.
The menu offers a good variety of Austrian dishes, including some from more provincial regions like Carinthia, as well as international options like pasta. However, we were here specifically to try his signature smoked salmon pizza. It features smoked salmon, red onions, dill, and caviar atop a light Italian-style dough with crème fraîche as the base. The pizza was excellent--balanced flavors, with the delicate richness of the crème fraîche and salmon pairing perfectly with the fresh pop of the caviar and subtle sharpness of the red onions.
We also ordered the Tuna Tartare, which was beautifully presented and tasted fresh and light--one of the best I've had in a while. For dessert, we indulged in the Crème Brûlée, which was wonderfully creamy with a perfectly crisp caramelized sugar top.
To accompany the meal, we enjoyed some local champagne, which was delightfully dry and refreshing. We finished with a traditional Melange, a Viennese-style coffee, which provided a smooth and comforting end to the meal.
Service was efficient and friendly, adding to the overall pleasant experience. A bonus to keep in mind: if you spend more than €30, they will validate your parking in the nearby garage, provided you don't exceed 2 hours.
Overall, Wolfgang Puck + Kitchen is a great option for a more elevated airport dining experience, offering both quality food and convenience. Definitely worth a stop if you're passing through Vienna International Airport!
