BEWARE! This place is now garbage!…read more Years ago, Doppolavore Le Foce gave us one of the most memorable meals we'd ever had. We were so taken by it that we flew from Los Angeles with family, planning several days in Tuscany just to experience it again. What we found this time was nothing short of disastrous, disappointing and regrettable. When we arrived, we were informed that the restaurant is now under new ownership. Still, we held onto hope that the quality would remain. Instead, our meal was quickly derailed by our server, Luciano, who was astoundingly rude and dismissive from the start. Though my Italian is conversational, he failed to engage with my requests, brushing me off with barely-concealed impatience. When my mother asked for a smaller portion of steak, I caught him rolling his eyes. As a vegetarian, I requested a primo selection to be severed as a secondo. Which he failed to honor. And when I ask for a green salad, he offered me a chicken salad. He then repeatedly tried to push unwanted dishes, like a caprese salad I had to decline three times before he finally stopped including it in the list of items that we wanted. My parents ordered a reasonable portion of steak, yet Luciano brought an absurdly oversized cut, resulting in an eye-popping €114 charge. It was clear he cared more about driving up the bill than listening to our requests. When I raised these issues with the owner, hoping for understanding, he defended Luciano's poor service and made little to no effort to rectify our experience. Eventually, they sent over a manager, who was courteous and offered us complimentary drinks and a return meal - which we declined. The manager was indeed kind and completely understood my Italian. Adding insult to injury, the food sub-par. I've had more satisfying pasta at American chain restaurants. But the worst came later: I spent the entire night sick with food poisoning!! I'm serious!! I spent the remainder of the night curled up on the bathroom floor of our villa, instead of in a bed. And the next day, I couldn't eat anything!! This iteration of Doppolovo robbed me of a fantasy meal; and left a bad taste in my mouth; literally and figuratively speaking. Please don't make the same mistake we did. Save yourself the money, health risk, and disappointment. Doppolavore Le Foce is no longer worth a visit - avoid it at all costs.

It was just what we needed in a most unexpected place. This is clearly the local hang-out. We showed up without reservations at 19:30 on a Friday evening and though they had a table for us the place was filling quickly and most all the other tables inside were reserved. A few waitresses spoke good English and were helpful. Food was fine. Solid, not spectacular. Service was great...but it is a pub. The locals all were friendly. Lots of young families with their kids, so we felt comfortable being silly. Fantastic Belgium beers and a solid 6 taps of various styles beer. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

What a strange place. I have never seen anything like it in Italy and rarely elsewhere either. They…read morehave an enormous collection of great Belgian beers, and they have so-so food. As a beer hall, it's a flat-out five stars. As a restaurant, it's three, or so. So I'll average it out as four. If you are a beer lover visiting nearby, and you want a diversion from the (great) Tuscan wines, make sure to spend an evening at the T.N.T. pub. The food is not the reason to go there, but it will pass. Bring a driver who doesn't drink, so that you can safely indulge in the wonders of the bar. Our favourite was the Lupulus, but it was a tough competition and they will probably have a somewhat different selection when you are there. Enjoy! (Oh, and get a reservation if you plan to go there on a weekend, or you will have to either wait or sit indoors, which can be blazingly hot.)
