The people here are very nice and the menu has something for everyone. First warning: it's VERY kid-friendly. Like if your kids are screaming in the concrete, steel, and glass space, no problem. And I mean this for real: great place to have wine if you must bring your kids. But if you happen to have free babysitting and are trying to escape children for a few hours, wait for the table at Delancey instead. Second warning: the pizza is floppy, somewhat soggy in the middle, and only flavorful if you get the hot peppers. But even then, not really as hot as you'd get many other places. Genuine Italian style pizza and espresso, wow. The espresso here is seriously stunning. I got a latte while waiting for a pizza and it was just incredible. I seriously think about it all the time. I don't go out of my way for pizza, but I do have a soft spot for the wood fired variety. We walked in around 6 PM on a Friday without reservations, and had to wait about 20-30 minutes for a table to open up. I'd definitely recommend making reservations as there's a limited number of tables, but pro tip--killing time is easy peasy at one of the nearby breweries! We had the Parma Salad and the Pizza Capricciosa (Pomodoro, mozz, prosciutto, artichokes, mushrooms). The salad was pretty forgettable (tad underseasoned if you got a bite w/o prosciutto), but the pizza was fantastic! It had a super thin crust and we were impressed by the quality of the toppings. I will note that the longer the pizza sat, the thinness of the crust got a bit soggy from the cheese and other toppings, but each bite was SO flavorful that it was such a small sacrifice overall. This is a really cute spot for some good Italian food. The decor and ambiance is cute yet casual. The service was great and super friendly. The food was good, the spaghetti bolognese and lasagne both had great flavor. They have gluten free pizza crust and gluten free pasta available, both are +$4. We tried La Rocca this afternoon (2 pm) as a place to meet ip with our daughter. First time visit and it definitely wont be our last! Of course that time of the afternoon it wasn't busy- which was GREAT for us so that we could enjoy our conversation. I'll bet it gets loud during the dinner hours. Ambiance was really nice and the place was CLEAN! Hubby had the Pasta Angeli Di Mare and he almost licked the bowl clean! He loved it! I saw the steam rising off of the bowl when it was served and hot food is a big deal to hubby. Our daughter and I each ordered pizzas because we read 14" as the size and thought that they were individually sized. But the pizzas we were served were easily 16-18 inches! We are big fans of wood fired THIN crust pizza's and we were not disappointed! Toppings were evenly distributed. Both pizzas could have been cooked just a hint longer so that the center 2 inches of dough would have been done all the way through, but that certainly did not detract from the flavors of our choices. My pizza was the Capriccisoa, and our daughter's pizza was the Paradiso. We also had desserts- hubby loved his traditional Affogato, I enjoyed the Chocolate Mousse, and daughter had the Tiramisu- all made in house. Our server, Claudia was perfect! I'm a little surprised by the reviews, or I might have come on an off night? I'll start off by saying that the service was good - no complaints there! My rating is mostly based on how much I paid for the taste/quality of the food. - Caesar ($12): The romaine was tough and the croutons tasted like bagged croutons. A generous portion of disappointment. Still the highlight of the meal. - Pasta Bascaiola ($24): Not homemade pasta. Sauce was watery vs creamy. Chicken bits were tiny. Bacon bits were hard to chew. Parmesan came as a clump on top of the pasta. All mixed together it wasn't terrible but again, for the price, disappointing. - La Rocca Pizza ($30): The moisture from the ingredients made the entire bottom of the crust soggy and provided a taste and texture of undercooked dough. The main ingredient you could taste was the arugula (there was plenty). I really wanted to like this place and may return for a second try. read more

My friend ordered the creamy pesto pasta and a Caesar salad as well. The salad was ok, not the best but not the worst. The dressing was a little off for me. I did not care for the pizza at all, it lacked any flavor at all. The crust was not very crisp or firm. It was flimsy and not flavorful at all. I really like pizza! I mean to an obsession. I will painstakingly try all the pizza places in an area (sigh... hard work but someone has to do it), to find my preference. My wife and I had been meaning to try Rocca for a while. We finally got the opportunity on a weekday lunch time. Our first impression upon walking in was the heavy fragrance of the cleaner they use. It was strong and produced a flashback for us of our time in Brooklyn ny where the disinfectant was strong enough to permeate the butter and other food. My wife turned to me and asked if we need to go. We decided we would stay the course. So the inside is clean and tidy and attractive even if a little on the sterile side. The server, that we felt must be part of the ownership, was very nice and attentive. When we were ordering a pepperoni pizza she suggested the Diavola that has pepperoni chicken Italian sausage black olives and Italian hot peppers with a red sauce. We agreed to her suggestion but opted to omit the chicken which seemed weird to to me. The pie cooked fast and we were not waiting long. It was a good size for the two of us and it was good. Not great but good. The crust is fine but nothing exceptional... could be better and more unique, could use a bit more salt and something that elevates it. Sauce also was good but again nothing to get crazed about. Toppings were delicious but standard. All combined and put in a real fire oven. It was good just not life changing. It might be a high bar for a pizza to need to be life altering. But this style of pizza cooked in this fashion as the ability to be. So my true response is 3.5 stars 3 stars for the heavy disinfectant 4 stars for food and our awesome server We would go back, maybe later in afternoon so cleaner smell is reduced and maybe try a more exciting pizza. read more

After walking past this place hundreds of times, we finally visited on a recent rainy Friday evening. It was not crowded, only a few kids. We were seated by the windows in the north corner and it was dark. I had to angle the menu just right to read it. The wait staff was slow to greet us, slow to take our order, slow to provide drinks, and not knowledgeable about where their house beers came from. The Spaghetti Bolognese was great! Plenty of meat, perfectly cooked pasta, excellent flavor. The Pizza La Rocca not so much. It was barely warm, cold in sections. Quality wood fired pizza in a pleasant atmosphere. Ordered a margarita and was surprised at how large it was. Big enough for two to share with an appetizer. Also ordered the minestrone which was traditional and very light. Spring in a bowl. We did have a problem with our mushroom pizza being over cooked on the crust and a bit burnt bitter but the staff was very accommodating and understanding. The challenge of moderating the temperature of a wood fired oven I was told. My experience with mushrooms on pizza is to precook them to remove moisture and add depth to the mushrooms flavor rather than cooking them on the pie. Bottom line, this pizza is worth your patronage. Had a few dishes including salads, pizza, and pasta. The salads were enjoyed by all, no complaints and they accommodated some dietary restrictions from others at our table. Great service. That's were the positives end I'm afraid. The pizzas were much larger than expected (bigger than 14") which isn't a major complaint but we could easily have ordered two for the table instead of three. The quality of the pizza was poor too. The crust was so thin it broke and crumbled like a stale cracker. In my hand when trying to pull a slice onto my plate. The pizza was loaded with toppings weighing the slice down too. Just too much on top of the crust that I couldn't even taste their sauce in a bite. My wife had pasta that I tried a bite of and the pasta was a little undercooked for my taste and she ended up with an upset stomach the rest of the night. Overall the food was 1 star. The restaurant features a beautiful oven and has good lighting (moody in the evening and lots of natural light during the day). There was a large tv above our table playing loops of animal videos that was a bit distracting considering how dim the lighting was. Kind of mixed for ambiance but it didn't add or detract from everything. There's a limited number of great pizza spots in Seattle. This isn't one of them. read more

When you bite into the crust you get a pleasant surprise with the little air bubbles making the most perfectly thin crust. All of the ingredients are imported from Italy-- if you have food sensitivity or often feel bloated after just a few bites of food, you will not have that problem here! My husband and I ordered the pizza via delivery, so take my review with a grain of salt. That being said, I loved the margherita we got. Wonderfully thin with a delicious crunchy crust, the pizza didn't feel too heavy nor was it overly charred like other wood fire pizzerias we've had around Seattle. The brightness of the sauce paired well with the cheese, but I would have liked more basil. I'd eat here in person next time for the full experience as delivery did make the pizza a tad cold when we received it. Walked into this new spot in our neighborhood, and the first thing that caught my eye was the pizza oven which is an actual wood fire oven. Immediately knew we were in for a great meal. We ordered a pizza, salad, meatballs and a pasta, and all dishes were amazing. We also had a ton of leftovers, as portions are quite healthy. Our server was Julia, and she gave us the best service that I can remember in recent memory. Super attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and overall nice person. The Caesar dressing was nice and lemony, the best I've had in recent memory with freshly grated cheese on top and a generous portion. I've tasted a few of their wood fired thin crust pizzas and the tomato sauce is on point. They use fresh mozz on top and the best quality meats. You can tell the difference for sure. Also, they're open in the morning and serve Lighthouse roasters espresso drinks and freshly baked pastries which look amazing. If you haven't been to see them in the AM, go try their pastries for me because they're full of gluten and I can't eat them! Haha. Everyone who works there is super friendly and welcoming.
