Oh, marone!
We were here early July and loved the place. It's outside the city walls; found it on our walk back to the bus/car parking lot described (the lot that is suggested in Rick Steves' guide book).
Wood-fired oven, freshly made slices or pies, and incredible hospitality. Take-out joint (looks and feels like your average American pizza place) and reasonably priced.
We ordered whatever looked good, and the owner/chef then had us try some Cecine (chick pea pizza, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farinata) and it was incredibly good. Heavenly combination of oil, dough, chick pea, and spices. We went back from the parking lot to get some more Cecine!
Very friendly people, we would love to go back to Lucca just to say hello to the guy and eat his pizza. read more
