I was traveling with my two college-aged children, and we were in St. Avold as a stopover between Germany and Verdun. Our hotel up the street sent us down the street and said that there were many eateries, so we were wandering around when we stumbled on this restaurant. The outdoor eating area looked so inviting we just had to take a seat. There are a million varieties of pizza on the menu, so there has to be something for everyone here! We picked two versions and waited for our server. Two women came to the doorway and spotted us. One (looked like the manager or possibly owner?) told the other to wait on us, and that woman was not happy about it you could tell. She came over begrudgingly, and I tried to order in French (granted, it wasn't the greatest but I was trying). To make sure there wasn't a misinterpretation, I also pointed directly to what I was ordering on the menu at the same time. She acted like it was impossible to understand what I wanted, despite my pointing. She made a bit of a scene about it, when the first woman came over and asked her in french what was the problem. Again, a fit about how confusing it was, and the first woman looked at her and said in french "but she is pointing to what she wants just write it down". When it was obvious that the server was not going to make any effort to wait on us, the first woman took over. She was very friendly and polite, took our order and treated us very nicely. The other server made an effort to never look our way again all night which was fine by us. The pizza's were more like a thicker crepe as a base with sauce and cheese, but they tasted great and hit the spot. Had the servers not been switched I'm not sure we would have given it as good as a rating, but as it turned out we had a nice evening and enjoyed our meal. read more
