Play Football is probably the second biggest brand of small-sided Football centres in the UK (after Powerleague) but I'd definitely say it's the best. There are regular tournaments here that have a pretty competitive entrance fee and they run leagues every Tuesday & Thursday for both 5 and 6 a side teams. My friends and I just entered a league on Thursdays and have only had 1 week there up to now. We won (which is always a bonus) and everything was pretty well organised, so a good start! We're expecting our free team shirts next week which you are supposedly given when you enter a team - whether we receive these or not could decided their fate on the 3 or 5 star move! All in all a good setup here, affordable pitch hire for you and your mates - book for 1 hour or make a discounted block booking for a few weeks.

Indeed, if a Merekat is transgender, then it's a Meretran, and if a train turns out to just be a tram, then it's a Meretram. So all that aside, what about the team. First-Hand Experience: I have to give 5 stars to this team because they are the pride of the Wirral and part of Merseyside and just a really well-supported and lovely club with an intense, big stadium. I've been to see them at home 4 times and will be going again. One of my fave lower tier clubs and some of the best fans you can imagine. I last saw them play live in 2007 so I'm overdue for a 5th time watching them. They are the pride of Birkenhead, with fantastic crowds and a great little intense stadium. If they had ever made it to the Prem, which they nearly did, they'd have really given Everton and Liverpool some fun games. They call people from the Wirral all sorts, but in the end they're all Merseysiders and Liverpudlians together. They play in all white, have a crowd of nearly 17k, and tragically just got relegated to the Conference, so for the first time since being founded in 1884, they will play outside the league next season. Hopefully they will bounce back fast, that's what she said. They amazingly reached the League Cup Final in 2000. They reached the FA Cup Quarters in 00, 01, and 04. Their heyday was when former LFC great John Aldridge and former EFC great Pat Nevin joined and teamed up to fire them to 3 successive play off finals. However they missed out on the Premier League each time by losing in the final, and then things were never the same. The freefall is hopefully now over, and they can rise up again.

They often lay on half time entertainment and have a family friendly mascot, Rover. There is limited seating at the bar (about 8 stools) but ample sofas and chairs in the lounge areas, and several four-top tables for dining. As a hotel guest, you can charge to your room, or pay by cash or card. A nice spot to unwind and have drinks and dinner, or grab a cocktail or two before dinner in the hotel's main restaurant.

A large, spacious Jacuzzi and a powerful and revitalising Steam Room put it ahead of the competition in that area! Also nice to relax in the bar after with a nice coffee or beer, depending on how hard I worked out!

And they are the greatest women's football team in the whole land. They've done what Liverpool men's team couldn't do since 1990, and won the Premier League... twice in a row! The back to back titles should have created a huge buzz and been famous all over the country, but sadly the sexist society of England doesn't pay much attention to the women's champions. Someday, when women's football is a big deal, this team will be known as the legendary pioneers of the women's Premier League, winning titles back to back when it wasn't even fashionable. They play in Widnes at Halton Stadium. Their manager is Matt Beard and they're an amazing team.

I am in no way a football fan, so I can say nothing about the sports side of this facility, but I can safely say what I know about the party venue and the bar inside. To be honest, this place is a bit dingy. I'm sure that's partly because it's old and sadly in need of a remodel, but as I dressed up as a hippy and was therefore barefoot in this establishment for a couple of hours, I was not impressed to return home and find my feet were quite dirty. A risk I knowingly took, of course, but I think the custodians here could afford to spend some quality time with a carpet shampooer. The bar staff were friendly, and seemed to enjoy my American accent rather than be offended by it, which is always a pleasure. The drinks were inexpensive, and there was a fairly decent variety available, although, again, sadly not a cocktail friendly place. (Sigh.) For the party I attended, the room was set up with dozens of small round tables with generally four chairs to a table. There was a buffet set up on the stage area. This is not a bad venue if you need a room for a large party or dance. It just really needs an update, that's all.

The Club celebrated its centenary in 1994 having been formed by a group of local businessmen and former college students taking its name from the hotel on the River Mersey sea front at Waterloo, seven miles to the north of Liverpool where the founders met. They moved to their present ground The Arriva Stadium (formerly known as Rossett Park) in 1903. Marine quickly made an impression on local football, winning numerous titles in the I Zingari League and the Liverpool Combination. Their greatest success as an amateur team in this period culminated in an F.A. Amateur Cup Final appearance in 1931/32, when they lost 7 1 to Dulwich Hamlet in front of a 22,000 crowd at West Ham United. In 1946 they went close again by reaching the semi-final. In 1935/36 they moved to the all-professional Lancashire Combination and enjoyed limited success before moving to the Cheshire County League in 1969/70. In 1972 Roly Howard was appointed first team manager(Is it only rumour that Roly was Kenny Dalglish's window cleaner) and completed 1,975 competitive games over a 33 year period before retiring at the end of the 2004/05 season. He was recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the longest serving manager in world football as Marine enjoyed its most successful period winning some 30 trophies. The Club relinquished its amateur status and became professional in 1974. Three Cheshire League Championships were won in five seasons before progressing to the Northern Premier League in 1979/80. They have twice been Champions (1993/94 and 1994/95) as well as twice being runners-up and have won the League Cup on three occasions (1984/85, 1991/92, and 2002/03). The best performance in the F.A. Cup was reaching the 3rd Round in 1992/3 when they lost 3-1 to Crewe Alexandra. Marine have also achieved ten first and two second round appearances in the FA Cup and have beaten two Football League Clubs (Barnsley and Halifax Town) in the competition. Marine have twice reached the semi-finals of the F.A. Trophy in 1983/84 and 1991/92 and have been winners of 13 senior county cups. Under the new management team of Alvin McDonald and his assistant, Peter Carroll, Marine have begun to challenge for honours again. In the past two years the Mariners have qualified for the UniBond Premier play-offs only to lose to the eventual winners on both occasions. Last season Marine finished seventh and won the Liverpool Senior Cup. A lovely well run club so if you can't get to the 'big boys' then have a look in at College Road, you might get hooked.

St Pats is the hub of the towns rugby and it does us proud year on year.

The club itself has a good selection of ales available - usually a choice of two or three relatively local breweries. The main problem is, and has always been, access. Non-members do not have the code to open the main doors, so have to rely on a member to let them in. I have waited outside for up to ten minutes before now, waiting to play a league quiz match - which can be lost through late arrival. All that being said, the service and welcome is good once you gain access and the beer is very well served. The sports facilities are excellent and many sports are covered. There is a function room available as well as the other usual facilities.
