Québecois Félix Leclerc: Guitarist, singer, revitalizer of the chanson (Quebec folk song), and passionate nationalist is remembered through this little oasis in the heart of Old Quebec City. The park seems, perhaps not coincidentally, like a small concert venue. There are two raised areas -- one in front of a few large stone steps right off of Rue du Petit Champlain, the second inside the park -- which both make the perfect stage for a small group of musicians. Not only does the significant tree cover and steep cliffs in the background make for a visually stunning park, it also makes for a great echo that allows the sound of buskers to reverberate around the surrounding area. It's also surprisingly tranquil (being that it's right off of Rue du Petit Champlain). There are plenty of benches, bench-swings, and Adirondack chairs to sit back, relax, and enjoy the space. It's well kept with flowers and plants that -- at the time of my visit in June -- were in their lushest, most beautiful state. A unique feature of this Old Quebec Heritage Site is Le souffle de l'Île (The Breath of the Island"), an aluminum sculpture, found at the back of the park, perched on part of the cliff. Part of the inscription is from LeClerc: FRAGILE ET DURABLE COMME UN PARFUM MA CHANSON D'AMOUR POUR LES TEMPS À VENIR S'APPELLERA VAGUE DE LA MER, MOISSON, MUSIQUE, BLEU DE NUIT. Sculptures at Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge are a reminder of the importance of protecting life and honouring all sentiment beings on the planet. The exhibit will end on October 10th 2022. If you are visiting Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge this summer, remember to visit the park for this once in a lifetime experience!

It is now home to a few statues and memorials, Today, here stand monuments to Louis Hébert, the first Canadian farmer, and Sir George-Étienne Cartier, one of the fathers of Confederation, as well as a plaque commemorating Québec's first parliament building. This urban park in the heart of Old Québec extends onto a section of the site of the first cultivated land in New France. It is also where the Legislative Assembly of United Canada parliament sessions were held. many things you can do here like, you can see the monuments dedicated to Louis Hébert and Sir George-Étienne Cartier, Admire the view of Lower Town, particularly the view of the Fresco of Quebeckers. but my favorite is - taking a photo of Chateau Frontenac along the stairs of Prescott Gate - that is a great spot, trust me. Restroom: there are many restrooms nearby areas, just Google it. Tourist information center, it's like 2 min walking.

The park was peaceful and quiet, with a few brave souls out cross‑country skiing and practicing their downhill skills--such a classic Québec winter scene. We took the stairs down toward the river, and the view from the top was absolutely worth it. The St. Lawrence River looks stunning framed by all that snow and open sky. For anyone interested in the historical side of the Plains, it's probably best to return once the snow has melted so you can explore the grounds more fully. But for a serene winter walk and beautiful scenery, this place is magical.

There are two ways to get to Pierre-Dugua-De Mons Terrace. The first is to walk across Dufferin Terrace to the end of the wooden slide runs. The second is to walk up from Avenue Saint-Denis. Any photo you take at the terrace, no matter the season or the time of day, would be as pretty as a postcard. Go for a stroll along the walls of the Citadel located next to the terrace. The view here encompasses many of Quebec's famous sites: On the left, there is the eminent Chateau Frontenac, a luxury hotel built to attract visitors from around the world; in the center, there is the historic Quebec old town, a UNESCO world heritage site; and on the right is the St Lawrence river, dominating the landscape and dotted with the occasional cruise ship to bring people from far-flung lands into the city.

There's a choice of a simple 2 minute walk down halfway through wooden stairs to the wooden…read moreswinging bridge or a few minutes going down more steep wooden stairs to walk over jagged rocks to the falls during low tide where we saw people fishing. We first weren't going to walk over uneven rock's all the way to the falls because it was getting late, but my boys were way ahead and wouldn't stop when we yelled for them to return, so we ended up following them and I'm glad we did. When I arrived around the corner, there were 3 more falls behind the tall rock formation, hidden in a nook so maybe you can see if from the right side of the bridge or the wooden walk, but you can't take a great panoramic picture of all of at once. It was spectacular to see different waterfall formations altogether up close. However, be careful because some parts can be slippery and you need a lot of balance to walk on the rocks. A friend of mine scraped his leg tripping over the rocks, so going to the bridge may be a better option for those who can't make the trip to the falls. People also fish near the falls and saw huge fish in a bucket. There 's a lot of free parking at the waterfall area, a concession stand that sells icecream, slushies and drinks that close at 7pm (that barely spoke english, so i'm glad i had my son to help order in french) and a restroom before going to the falls.

However, given that this is a "natural attraction" I was very disappointed that the otherwise lovely boardwalk was infested with many invasive species, like Japanese Knotweed. I think when making nature the focus of an attraction, it should be protected better than seems to be the case, at least along the boardwalk. Also of note .. you can easily take the funicular down and up to avoid much walking if need be. Clean facilities at the bottom and top.

The park contains a renovated complex of fortifications that the French originally began building…read morein 1712. Construction was paused when a treaty was signed with the British the following year. Subsequently, the defenses were replaced by more formidable fortifications at the top of the cliffs and the buildings were converted to barracks 30 years later. The current site includes the foundry and arsenal that produced artillery shells and other ammunition for the French, the British, and through World war fought by the Canadians. The current building provides a history of the site. The first floor has a recreation of the crowded French enlisted men's quarters in which they cooked and ate their meals in the same room as they slept. The second floor, meanwhile, is reconstructed as the British officers' quarters with a comfortable lounge with comfortable chairs and mahogany gaming tables, a large, formal dining room, and a hearth manned by a cook who officers hired to prepare their meals. The third floor houses the officer's sleeping quarters and the apartment of the superintendent of the foundry. It is furnished with early 20th-century furniture and furnishings.

The cost for both is minimal, only slightly more for a guided tour, so I sprung for the guided tour which consisted, in total, of the guide and my party of two. The Arsenal is fully self-guided. The Officer's Quarters too, after an introduction from a guide prior to entering. The Redoubt (where soldiers slept/ate/lived) is the only place where a guide actually walks you through and tells you what life was like here at the time the Redoubt was operational. Guides here dress in period costume (a "thing" in these parts) and a few are surprising guest stars on your guided tour. That is, they interact with you as if they are a character from that time and place. It's both inspired and amusing. On the day of my visit though, staff had been shuffled to another event so only one costumed actor popped up but my silly enjoyment of that character made me believe that I'd have liked the tour even more with the full complement of actors present. Touring the grounds and Redoubt with a guide is worth doing. Without it, I'd have had little idea what I was seeing and in this location, a Unesco Heritage site, it seems worth the small investment.

So. Many. Stairs. It is a 450 foot elevation gain...all on stairs...over a pretty short…read morestretch. But, the views are nice and the stairs aren't terribly steep, are very well maintained, and there are a lot of spots to rest and enjoy the view along the way. The start of the stairs is at the end of the boardwalk near the toboggan chutes. For the return trip we opted for the more gentle descent via the upper part of the city along the old wall rather than go back down all the stairs.

I like to plan my trip and prepare where to start and which spots will come as my day progresses. I had 2 options to visit the Plains of Abraham 1) from Saint Louis st, and 2) From Governors' Promenade- I chose this At 655m long with 308 steps it makes for one of the most memorable walks you will take when you visit Quebec. The 'promenade' takes you from Terrasse Dufferin. It connects the boardwalk in front of the Chateau Frontenac to the southernmost point of the Citadel to the Plains of Abraham. It hangs off Cap-Diamant. The Dufferin Terrace is close to the famous Chateau Frontenac hotel, the Funicular, and the Breakneck Stairs that connect Upper Town to Lower Town. The elevated promenade stretches along the Citadel with the fortification wall on one side, and a gorgeous view of the St. Lawrence River on the opposite side. You can start at either end of the boardwalk. This is a great free activity where you can get some exercise, enjoy the scenery, and make your way from one destination to another. Walking the Governors' Promenade usually ensures that you climb a whole bunch of uphill staircases and steps - at least over 300 (You can do vice versa as well) start from the Plains of Abraham and come to the boardwalk but normally you start the day from the famous spot so it's highly unlikely you will climb down Governors' Promenade is- where the Citadel meets the Plains of Abraham park along the cliff edge. The Battle of Abraham was fought here many years ago; now, the area is a sprawling park with many picnic tables and trees. The Plains of Abraham is a great place to relax or have a picnic in the sunshine. Moreover, from this vantage point, you will take hundreds of pictures. It makes for breathtaking views of the St-Lawrence River, the Ile d"Orleans, and the city.
