The food, the ambience and most of all the service were amazing here. There's a delightful assortment of tapas and entrées to choose from. We arrived late in the evening and sat at the bar. We were greeted by one of the owners who was the bartender for the evening. Once we chose our food, he helped with the wine selection. His knowledge was extensive and impressive. We had a variety of foods. I enjoyed some tapas. Warm olives, some delicious cheese and delectable grilled shrimp. My husband enjoyed the grilled shrimp over polenta. While at the bar we watched how most of the food was prepared on the plancha. The food was paired with wines to balance and elevate the flavors. TLDR: Great if you're craving tapas in the Garden City area. Favorites were definitely the shisito peppers and burger. Massive wine collection and tasty sangira. Portion sizes are good. A friend had told us about Plancha and never got around it until recently. It's a small place but a solid menu and lots of wine. They were also able to accommodate us with our stroller. Food we got the pan con jamon, garlic shrimp, patatas bravas, shisito peppers and the plancha burger. The sangria was very good. Juicy, not overloaded with BS fruit and just very flavorful. The bread is like a toasted baguette cut into 4 triangles topped with piquillo salsa, arugula and jamon. Pretty good, I was surpised there wasn't pan con tomato but it was still enjoyable. This is a bit more on the acidic side so if you don't like things too tangy - might not be for you. Patatas bravas, classic with aioli and bravas sauce. Shisito peppers blistered, a bit of finishing salt and lemon. Garlic shrimp was cooked well, personally I'd like a bit more garlic in mine and some bread to mop would be nice but still tasty. Plancha burger was definitely our favorite. It's a blend of wagyu sirloin and chorizo, so it's very juicy with a nice smokiness. Complete disappointment. The place has sticky floors with flies flying around while serving warm tap water in the summer without ice or being refrigerated. What they say about the Paella is true! Reading the other reviews now and found the same problem. Stay away from this place and save your $65 for a Paella with empty mussels shells. I wondered if the shells were last night's leftover scraps. They were mostly empty or so small that I couldn't see. If it was a $35 dish, I may have just let it go. But for $65, all I get is oily soggy rice with a few pieces and shrimp and squid rings plus empty shells? After we pointed it out the server offered to take it off the bill. Sadly we didn't have any other options to replace it with and had to leave hungry and find another place to feed my family of 5 with kids. Last night was not our first time there. I rarely leave reviews but this place was so disrespectful to their customers, clearly didn't care about it and we will never return. The so called manager never came over to our table to explain or even apologized once. He was hiding by the bar and didn't care to serve his manager role that night. When I approached him myself he said that's what the supplier gave them, nothing they can do about it. So he's saying you're serving me empty mussels and charging people $65 for it and it's not your fault but the supplier's fault? So if your suppliers give you crap you push the crap back out to your customers and charge them an arm and a leg without any shame? What you can do is don't serve that crap or don't charge people $65 for it! For the manager to be able to think to rid his blame by pointing to the supplier is unbelievable. Shame on you and you should be fired for arguing with your customers in front of the entire restaurant instead of just apologizing. After I confronted him, he says "well now I'm not going to care. That's the beauty of it, people can go or not go wherever they want." WTF kind of attitude is that? When did he actually care? He clearly doesn't care about customer service with his snobby attitude. Cannot say enough great things about Plancha! My boyfriend and I went for an anniversary dinner. We had never been to a gourmet tapas restaurant before. We ordered a lot so here were our top favorites: Octopus ragu- how unique! Lasagna-style dish, but replace the pasta with tender octopus. Pan de Jamon- Super surprised at how delicious this combination was, a must try! Bone Marrow- We were silent as we savored every flavor of this dish. The caramelized onions were SO good. The setting is pretty casual, with more intimate lighting. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I appreciated that he explained how to eat the Bone Marrow when I asked (embarrassedly). The vibe of the place itself is fine, it's a bit cramped and fairly small, so definitely want to have a reservation. We started by building our own cheese/meat board. There were a good amount of options and everything was pretty fresh and tasty. Next came the ricotta toast which we are always a sucker for but this was not my favorite. Everyone's reviews rave about the chicken wings, so we felt like we had to get these and they were good-nothing terribly special. Finally, ended with the steak board. The steak really was nice and the board itself comes with a lot (salad, bone marrow, patatas bravas). The wine was good and seemed like a larger than normal amount per glass. My biggest drawback, however, is the price-especially for a place labeled a tapas restaurant. Everything was just a bit more expensive than I feel it should be. Everything about this place is okay... went in with a group of 7 when it was not too busy, about 50% capacity. We ordered a variety of food and drink, and it took forever for everything throughout the night (and we were there for like 2 -1/2 hours unwillingly), we actually asked the server a couple times if the food and drinks were coming. Server could have been more informative, but more on that later. As the organizer of our visit I asked my companions how their meals were, all said "okay", I felt the same... okay. And one note from earlier, server did not tell me there was a gratuity added for our size party (no problem with the included gratuity as it's usually less than I would tip), however I did mistakenly add my full gratuity on top of that, so let the server keep it but let him know I was disappointed that he didn't inform me on such a large bill. This place was very nice, we were immediately greeted and seated upon arrival. Our waiter was very nice and quick with everything. The playlist they had going was great. All the food was delicious. This was the best meal I have had in a while. My finance and I were looking for a nice dinner after a long road trip and we stumbled up Plancha Tapas. The interior was reminiscent of Spain, and all the staff were really friendly. After being seated, we chose 4 items to order, and they were all fantastic. The Jamón Iberico board paired the jamón with pickled onions and sundried tomatoes, which was an excellent combination. The paella had a great socarrat and the octopus was tender. The bread pudding was my personal favorite and was paired with a dulce de leche. I could've eaten 2 of those. I would say the only minor con of the meal was the croquettes. Although I enjoyed them, it seemed like the filling had a lemon zest, which we weren't a fan of. It overpowered the dish. I wasn't crazy about the patatas bravas that were doused in what I would imagine was a cumin ketchup. The food could be more evenly seasoned. Some bites of the same dishes were better than others. The steak platter was taken off the menu, which was a disappointment. However, 20 mins into service, they indicated that the chef walked in with steaks and can do the platter. It felt like a lucky night until when we tasted it. This place has a lot of potential, but some questionable menu items and service knock it down a peg. I think it's probably easiest to go item by item: Patatas Bravas - While this is obviously a Tapas restaurant staple, these might be the most poorly executed I've ever had. While this came piping hot, the potatoes tasted like an extremely cheap frozen breakfast potato. They weren't tertibly crispy and had absolutely no seasoning at all. I had better potatoes at my hotel's free breakfast buffet nearby. The bravas sauce is also really bad. It tasted like they just mixed ketchup and BBQ sauce. This is the type of thing you order when you have picky children. Crispy wings - Not crispy at all and tossed in the same bravas sauce as the potatoes. While really big and meaty, you could get better versions of essentially the same thing by ordering BBQ wings from almost any chain wing restaurant. I understand the type of cuisine leads to a limiting smaller menu and they need to expand it somehow, but honestly they shouldn't serve things like these 2 menu items if they're going to put in the bare minimum to season/execute it. Broccoli Rabe - This is where things are starting to get better. Well seasoned and tasty. I have some minor nitpicks, the rabe could have been sauteed and wilted a little bit more tender, and the ricotta is served confusingly underneath making it difficult to realize it's there and how much is there, but this is a solid vegetable side. Garlic shrimp - I really have no complaints about this. While incredibly simple, it's perfectly seasoned and executed. If they had prepared the wings in this style as opposed to the bravas sauce those could have some potential. Duck confit - While I would technically consider the shrimp tastier, this is definitely one of the more impressive dishes I've had recently and highlights what separates duck from other poultry. Skin perfectly crispy on the outside but meat inside falls off the bone. Interesting flavor combination of sweet with a very slow building spice that you don't feel at all when you start but leaves you a bit flushed when you're done. I personally would have loved something a little bit more savory but this is a very unique item that will be unlike anything else in the area. Unfortunately our waitress walked past us and our empty glasses multiple times despite it being a very small restaurant without a ton of seats and the duck took a veeeery long time although it was worth it. I'm sure things like the steak board, jamon and bone marrow are more its specialty than what we ordered, which is where I assume the high rating comes from, unfortunately my girlfriend doesn't eat that sort of stuff so it's a disappointing some of the things we had were so lackluster. read more
