Yes, the store serves gorgeous smelling and tasting, freshly made donuts, but this is only part of the story as far as I'm concerned. As I approach the stand I can taste the saltiness of the sea, I can hear the bleeps of the arcades and I can even feel sand getting between my toes. The counter is full of those kinds of sweets you weren't even sure they made anymore. Where else could you buy walking sticks and umbrellas stuffed with Smarties when you're a hundred miles or more from the sea in any direction? Canadians (and some Americans) will no doubt jump for joy when they see their coffee institution in the UK. The oddest thing is that Tim Horton's of Canada (Tim Horton was an ice hockey player) is in the Spar shop. In Canada, I guess it's not the coolest place to go but I care more about the coffee tasting good. And like in Canada, it's cheaper than anywhere else and yet famously, they brew new coffee every 20 minutes which in my mind is pretty fresh. Let's not forget their bagels and doughnut treats too; Over the Atlantic there are many varieties to get addicted to but here in Birmingham, there is still a decent selection. If you go in, let me know if they start doing a 'sour cream glazed' and I'll be back in! This is my regular stop if I'm popping to the central library or running down Broad Street to Cineworld. I was a little disappointed in the pulled pork. Being from North Carolina (home of pulled pork BBQ in the states) and eating at a place with smoke in the name, I was expecting smoked BBQ. The pork is just roasted like what you'd expect to come on a bap and lacks the tenderness that comes with slow smoking. The BBQ sauce at the table has a nice smoke flavoring added, so I was able to drown my salad in that for an approximation of the smoky flavor I craved. The salad portion is very generous and uses fresh veg. The fried pickles need a little tempura batter mixed in with the corn meal and maybe a little more time in the fryer for a better texture.

First of all, this restaurant is HUGE. Incredibly big and spacious, with an assortment of booths and tables and a huge bar. The decor of the place is awesome-- fun pieces of americana all over the place and funky graffiti all over the walls. But the highlight of every place is the food, and well, the food was just OK. I opted for a pulled pork sandwich, and a side salad instead of fries. The pork was good (mostly because they have a fantastic BBQ sauce) but definitely didn't taste slow-cooked. The salad was served without any dressing which was a bit weird, since it was huge and mostly lettuce. By the way, portions here- GIGANTIC. Come with an empty stomach! Neat selection of American beers. I don't know. I wasn't incredibly impressed, but my meal was satisfying, and the BBQ sauce is tasty. I'll have to try a few more things on the menu...

It felt very sparse compared to what I'd seen in previous year's photos. We checked the map to make sure we hadn't missed a section but I'm guessing they maybe took a hit post-covid because it just didn't hit the mark for us. Beautiful to walk around at night but very expensive, especially for the food options.

This is a yearly addition to the city centre with stalls selling festive treats ranging from chocolate and tasty treats through to toys and ornaments. The real thing people go here for however is the food and even more importantly the drink. This is the one time of the year that Birmingham city council lets allows people to drink on the street (in designated areas) and people 100% take advantage of this! The bars and stalls are always full with people enjoying a range of mulled drinks and beers. I am a big fan of this market and even though it can be a little pricy at times its a welcome addition to November/December in the city. Go get yourself an oversize glass of festive cheer and welcome the Christmas market back to Brum!

I actually only tried a Krispy Kreme donut for the first time around 4 months ago, this is about the time that they secured a franchise deal with Tesco, around a month prior to Britain's obesity levels steadily beginning to increase. But who can deny them? I mean they are the best donuts available to mankind! What a great idea, get a load of high sugar donuts, add some inventive flavours, then pump them full of cream! But beware, these things are pricey,, and they encourage you to buy them by the dozen to save money! Which I'd happily do if I had money to waste on 12 donuts.Tthis shop is a little box set aside from the shops were you can go and get coffee and a donut for your walk around Cheshire Oaks. they have a range of Krispy Kreme donuts that can be bought individually or in multipacks!
