I have been a member for many years and have seen a number of staff personnel changes that definitely impact the quality of the Planet Fitness Evanston experience. Since Jaden has become the manager, the level of customer service has significantly deteriorated. The front desk in frequently not manned by staff. He projects the image that members are an annoying distraction from his laptop and I have personally witnessed him being rude and "judgmental" toward the members who have been loyal regulars. Not exactly the kind of "leadership" for a fitness center whose brand is a "Judgement Free Zone". Jaden's negative vibe is infecting the whole experience, simply undermining all that the franchise stands for. Other than this staff issue, the Planet is a great value for your workout dollar and while I have seen the cleaned and maintained better in the past, it is still a comfortable place for all to go to work out. It is just a shame that this location has joined the race to the bottom when it comes to the relationship it cultivates with its members. read more

Best customer service in Chicagoland. The gym is small but considering the space is well laid out. The locker rooms need an upgrade but unlike most of the showers in the area with rain fall shower heads, I could actually wash my hair and shave my legs in these showers. Sadly they only have hydromassage loungers rather than the beds which are so much more comfortable. read more

Planet Fitness is an absolute dump, earning a pathetic one-star from me. The front desk guy was a total prick, sneering and acting like I was wasting his precious time just by existing. I asked about the gym's hours, and he barked at me like I was an idiot, rolling his eyes with zero professionalism. This so-called "judgment-free zone" is a joke when the staff's attitude screams arrogance. Said I didn't need to be here anyway since I have no hope with what my body already looks like. His nasty vibe made me want to walk out immediately, and I'm done with this trashy place--membership canceled, good riddance. For instance, there are only two steppers, and one is frequently out of service. I think the gym is perfectly clean and the staff is really nice and helpful. But I did decide to switch home gyms - this may not be important to you but i wish I'd known this before joining so putting it out there. If you're like me and don't want the outside world to interfere with your exercise dopamine rush, bear in mind that the gym has 20 TVs, half of which are always tuned to one of the big three cable news streamers (MSNBC, CNN, Fox). I asked a few times if this could be changed and it seems that this is non-negotiable at this gym. i couldn't take it anymore and switched my home gym and now go to the Planet Fitness on McCormick where the TVs are blissfully nothing not sportsball and nonsense. But if you don't mind engaging with the news during your workout or if you're better at ignoring it than I am, it's a perfectly nice gym. read more

I have been going to this location for years because it was always comfortable and there were always nice employees. For over a year, my fitness plan has included me going to this location from around 3:30am to 4:50am on weekdays because I live in Skokie and have to commute to Chicago and be at work around 7am. I would work out from Tuesday to Friday and Saturday at 7am. I would see my fellow regular attendees almost every day of the week. There would be people in every area exercising. The cardio machines, the weight machines, the free weights, the smith machines, the stretching area. I have been able to accomplish so much at this location, because they have promised us (on their website) that they will work on our schedule... because they are a company that is for the members. I am told days before the change that the hours will be changed on weekdays from being 24/5 to opening at 5am... I don't blame the employees that work there. I blame the management and their management for not keeping their word. When I was told, the employees there told me, not the management. We did not hear one word from the management or even the company that this was going to happen. The ones responsible for this decision are just going to say that this is because not many people come at this time, even though the beginning of this story mentions the contrary. More and more people would attend this club as my time there would pass by. It wasn't empty. There were always people there. The management has no remorse for how this has affected the lives of those who would attend before 5 am. The club still has signs that say it is a 24/5 club. Because I like getting there early enough to be the first one in, I have seen members these past two days get there before 5am, try to open the door, display anger of this change, and leave because they are not able to get a workout in. I have to now fit the workout that used to take an hour into 40 min, because of their schedule change. The management would probably say that they are "sorry" for my inconvenience and that they could help me switch my home club to another club that is open 24/5. This does not solve my problem... - Why would I not know how to change home club? -Why would I switch to another club that is miles farther from my home that would also affect my timing? -Another club that is still open 24/5 will be congested by those of us that have switched out of this club and by those who already have been attending that club. It's as if they want the Planet Fitness clubs to be overfilled at all times to the point where we are not able to have a good workout. They seem to want us to be uncomfortable. We would go to this location because although there were people there, all the machines would not be occupied. They don't seem to care. ***Additionally, they owe me 2 custom t-shirts for completing their 2023 Spring Fitness Challenge (it is currently 2024). The goal was to attend 33+ times in a time period, and I was able to. I have contacted management twice. The second time, which was around 3-4 months ago, management said they will be here "next week." I don't know what she meant by next week, but it definitely wasn't 7 days from when she told me. Decided to upgrade my membership to 20.00 a month yearly contract(39.00 renewal fee). Why? Planet Fitness has the most amazing massage chairs! (Think Sharper Image/Brookstone) as well as a Hydromassage Bed! The massage chair is for "black list members only" (where you pay 20 instead of 10) and you get a coin where you can use the chair for 5 minutes. It is fantastic! The Hydromassage Bed features air pressure on a bed- with soothing music and even games. I've never seen one before but I am so impressed my gym has this. There is also unlimited tanning! I am surprised so many gyms aren't like this. 20 bucks a month? seriously! read more

Heck, I skip whole months without feeling any guilt at all, and the amazing team at this particular location still recognized me when I walked back through their doors to start being healthy again! Big, medium, small, tall, short, whatever. You are welcome here. No judgement, no ego. Just come in to be your best you. Even if that means, like me, starting over after some time away from being healthy. I like this gym more than the many, many others I've been a member at for both the aforementioned reason, (budget), and because every time I come to work out, I find REAL people doing what they can to make their life better for themselves. This would have been a five star review until today. Was greeted by a female trainer around 5 p.m. on 11-23-2021. She stated that I have used all of my visits for this location and would need to go somewhere else next time to workout, without any real explanation. I've been here practically every day for a month and never had an issue until today. I work contract labor and am in one place for a few months, then move to another location, this is the reason I carry the black card. This has never come up before. I feel this is very rude, inappropriate, and highly unprofessional. Oh, and I logged back into my account and it states that one of my amenities is the "Use of any Planet Fitness Worldwide". This franchise is inexpensive and for the amount of money you are paying - if you go in with realistic expectations of what it offers and what it lacks, you will be fine. The only reason I occasionally come to PF is because my insurance company takes part on these types of low budget gyms. I also have access to LA Fitness but I do have to say that one good thing about this gym is their parking. I DETEST parking garages because as my luck would have it, I never find parking in the lower levels and have to waste time going to the upper floors. When given a choice between this one and the LA Fitness Evanston, out of convenience alone, I will choose PF. This gym, at least the times I have been here, is kept clean and generally there is always enough gym equipment (machines and weights) for everyone. I am someone that likes to work out on my own so fitness classes are not an appeal for me, and PF does not offer any of these things. You get what you pay for, this is no-frills gym, if all you want to do is strictly cardio and lifting weights (with no fancy equipment or any of the kettle bells, spinning bikes etc), you will be fine, if you are looking to do anything else, then you will have to fork over more money at the more pricier gyms. But hey, at least they offer free wifi, something that Xsport on Elston does not read more

For $10.00 a month, you cannot beat the price for a decent gym. There are no hassles with contract because its cheap and affordable. Price includes a free personal trainer where you can customize your own workout. This gym is a place for people to work out and excercise for the sake of health. My blood pressure had been border high and thanks to this gymn for it to become normal. Plenty of parking and convenience of location. You definitely get what you pay for here. The price is super cheap for a regular monthly membership at $10/month and $20/month for the upgraded black pass membership. The equipment isn't so fancy, but I think they have enough to get a good workout in. The staff are pretty friendly and the gym is usually clean. I've been here at various times of the day and I'm always happy that it's hardly ever packed to the brim. Usually after New Year's Day, it's full of people, but it gradually simmers down (haha!)!! Lockers are plentiful and I appreciate the fast and free wifi. The best part, to be honest, is the huge mall parking lot. I would hate to come to a gym to spend a huge chunk of time finding parking. Plannet fitness is a great place to work out if you're on a budget. It's open 24 hours a day and has a lot of great equipment. I don't really like the style of bench/squat racks they have. They are nice because they are self spotting (not sure if that's what it's actually called) but you have to twist the bar to unlatch them and for me it feels awkward. BUT beggars can't be choosers and they provide the same effect as other racks. It's always clean and the wait for equipment isn't long at all. It's nice they have a little area set off to the side where you can stretch and use the medicine ball. I am very satisfied with this gym and I'd definitely recommend it especially if you're on a budget. read more

Switched off the lights 15 minutes before closing and switched on their loud alarms. Its a horrible tactic to forcibly push everyone out. Change your timings if you want to close earlier than the stated time. Been to many other PF locations and none of them do this. read more

They are fun and motivating, the manager Griffin is very flexible and understanding. He is very accommodating and made the perfect schedule for me with the amazing trainers here (Juan&Shantel). Very laid back cool environment, you can slim or get big here. And get good advice while doing it. Every diet is good with exercise. read more

I have not joined a gym in such a long time and I am SO HAPPY I learned about planet fitness. I've heard about them for awhile due to their many advertisements and was always skeptical because it seemed way too good to be true. $10 a month, really? There has to be a catch. But I finally decided to try it out come the new year (that's usually when the best gym deals are) and it really is an amazing deal. First of all, the basic membership is $10 a month and then you just get a one time annual fee that's $39. So cheap! Secondly, everytime I go I've never had to wait for a machine its never been insanely busy. Third, parking is great. Big parking lot since its in a shopping center, easy in and out. I usually do an elliptical, listen to music or watch one of their many tvs, an hour flies by and then I'm done. They also have a water bottle filler....bathrooms are nice and clean...machines are clean... The staff is young and always very nice, say hi and bye everytime. I honestly really appreciate that because at all my other gyms in the past the staff were always so salesy and hunt you down everytime you walked in versus being helpful. Here they're very nice, polite, helpful, and don't bother you they understand you're there to work out. Just what I need. More proof that this place is great is that my boyfriend approves! He is a hard core exerciser (works out twice a day) and we tried this place together because he wasn't happy with his gym at work, they were starting to charge due to budget cuts. He loves it. He had a black card and I worked out with him for free for a long time, one of the great perks of having a black card membership, and I enjoyed it so much that I got my own membership. Overall they have a wide variety of exercise machines, great staff, lots of perks, for a steal. And it is a very welcoming relaxed environment. The people I see working out our of all ages. I workout early mornings (3am) and I was going to the front desk to get the squat sponge. There was nobody at the front desk, so I walked around to find a staff member. Well, I found them, asleep! In the hydro-massage bed. He looked cozy and comfortable, so I didn't wake him. I never got my squat sponge though. I've been to about 5 or 6 different Planet Fitnesses now and, unfortunately, I have to rate this one the worst. I came here earlier this week to start the #pf100challenge. -The workout area is small and the set up isn't very nice. Just an overall cramped space. -Some of the cleaning spray bottles weren't functional. -The men's locker room wasn't clean, missing benches and the lockers are old and beat up. I come to Evanston a couple times a month and it'd be nice if this Planet Fitness was better, but with how many locations they have now, I'll just go elsewhere. The machines here could use some maintenance. The cardio machines are loud like they need to be lubed. I sat on a pull down machine and the seat decided to unlatch, sending my butt to the floor. I would say that's borderline a health risk, especially for older clients. The employees seemed okay, kind of hit or miss if they were friendly or just kind of quiet behind the counter. Everything about this gym is great EXCEPT the fact that several men at this gym don't wear their masks correctly or clean their machines off after use, and when you report it to the staff members their is no enforcement. It's frustrating when they have signs up every 5 feet to wear a mask and things playing on the TV encouraging staying safe and following guidelines, with no follow through. I understand taking your mask down to take a drink of water, but when you're sitting on a machine texting and your mask isn't covering anything but your chin it becomes unacceptable. If people can't put on a mask at a gym, I know they aren't wearing them when they're out, it is an active endangerment to anyone who works out here. read more

The Black Card membership is the best membership to go with, for $20.05 a month and $49 in June, with reciprocal membership everywhere there's a Planet Fitness location, everything the $10 membership buys you plus, unlimited tanning (once every 24 hours) and free use of the massage chairs and bed, there really isn't much to bitch about, but... The Cons: They ask that you take your cellphone calls to the lobby, this doesn't stop a number of lunks from chatting into their earbuds. They ask that you clean up after using the machines, and it seems that this is too much for some lunks to clean off their sweat from the machines. While there is a "no lunk" rule, so much so their commercials used to show lunks being ejected from the health club, it seems that the lunks have dressed down as in a so-so economy, they can't afford Bally Total Fitness like they used to? There seems at times to be more updating of Facebook than working out, one lunk camping out on a machine and not using it borks the whole process of working out. About 90% of the facility has tinted windows, but there are some windows on the west side when the sun is setting, the sunlight blinds about 50% of the club, maybe another bit of tint, or rollaway tint like at Starbucks? There are a number of TV's to work out to, but its basically, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, WCIU, CNN, and CNBC, whereas other Planet Fitness clubs have Discovery, and other cable channels to watch, and a forewarning, if you're working out on a weekend, get used to watching reruns of that Tom Vu wannabe David Montelongo infomercial all weekend long. Bring your own music, this location only licensed like 20 songs, and they play them over and over again, I was tired of Bon Jovi before working out here, but now its cemented it for me, but at least its not Nickelback. These aren't major gripes, just what I've noticed, and all very correctable and while the facility is dripping in CCTV cameras, it seems that the staff and management, which manage the desk really well, doesn't want to address these issues. As a trainer told me, keep working out here until you plateau your workout, then move over to Lifetime Fitness. Sounds like a plan to me! read more

I started coming here a year ago. First, I couldn't pass up the rates: $10 a month for a regular pass, $20 for the pass plus unlimited guest passes, tanning and massage chair with the ability to visit ANY PF in the country. I traveled a bit last year so I thought it'd be useful. In reality, you get what you paid for. Lots of people like to use the machines to sit and text, there's always one idiot who wears jeans or flip flops to workout, and I swear there's a guy that works there that uses his job to pick up girls. Being a member of PF instead of any other gym is like riding the El as opposed to the Metra: for $100 I could get a handful of days with quiet commuting luxury, or $100 of endless wildcard rides from the El... read more

If you're looking for decent equipment and no assistance, this is the place for you. Now, if you're looking to ask questions to their staff, don't even bother because they aren't knowledgeable about anything. I'd say this gym is good for novice goers, but after a year, you should upgrade to a gym that actually cares about you. After a year, it will automatically renew so make sure you plan months ahead of time. It's a process to cancel. I went into the gym to cancel, I was then told that I had to send a letter even though I was already there. I called a week later to see if they received it and the front desk representative was clueless on how to assist me. These people literally have zero work ethics. The managers should consider properly training their reps so they can be helpful at least. read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. My purse got stolen from their gym locker room, which I do not blame them for. However, they refused to look at the cameras and check without a supervisor. When i asked when the supervisor was coming in, nobody knew. I called several times and asked for the manager but no one knew when they were coming in. In addition to that, management took absolutely no initiative to contact me and follow up on the event. When I called the last time, the manager was sooo bitchy and didn't offer any type of accommodations. I work in retail and I understand what customer service is, and that is not it! I have a Black membership and take my daughter with me. My wife wanted to sign up for a White membership but she has a bad knee and was not certain whether her knee could take the treadmill. When she balked at the $49 "sign-up" fee, the three employees ganged up on her and berated her. "It is not that much money, none of our other customers complain", etc. When I came out of the locker room and inquired, the employees ganged up on me. They were rude and threatened to call the police on me. I asked for the manager and was told that "she has a family", and they could not call her. So we all left. Came home and looked up the club web site. Found the offer on the website was a $39 sign-up fee, not $49. Also located another Chicago-area club where the sign-up fee is $10. So, since I am tied in to my membership for 1 year, I will take my wife to this other club and buy her membership there. read more

This gym gets the job done. I come here 4-5 times a week after work. Equipment is clean (most people are very diligent about cleaning up after themselves), it functions, and you can get in the work out that you want. With that being said, there are still quite a few 'lunks' that strut their stuff around the gym, even though there is a no lunk rule. For $10 a month, you'll get your money's worth. The staff on the other hand, get a grip. You work customer service- BE NICE! While signing up the staff member entered my name into the system wrong, and I tried to correct it the next day. All I wanted was for my correct name to be in the system, you would have thought I was asking the woman at the front desk to valet my car for me. As long as you never ever have to talk to the PF staff, you'll be just fine. read more

Stating the obvious, this place is $10.00/month with no contract. I hear what the negative reviewers are saying, but you do get what you pay for.... a good workout on the cheap. Planet Fitness in Evanston has loads of free parking, most of the employees are pleasant (yeah, there are a few duds), the equipment is perfectly adequate for the average gym user and they keep the place pretty clean. The clientele is a true slice of Evanston, so if you don't like working out with real people in average gym clothes, this place just isn't for you. It's a place to exercise - that's it. What could the owners/staff of this place do better: keep the water fountains cleaner (the calcification and grime is gross), keep the bathrooms cleaner, monitor the circuit training area for gym dorks who gum up the works and perhaps work on customer service a bit. Overall, I am happy with Planet Fitness and am sticking around to stay fit. read more

I like this place. What's to complain about? Not too much. I'll mention it below. However You cannot expect me to wash off every machine after I use it when I'm jumping around every minute. The staff should be a bit more conscientious about it. I try to do my best though! Sorry for all those concerned! One thing they really need are those weight balls and more space for stretching. It can get a little tight in there especially when people are stretched out taking up as much space as possible. But then again $20/month... When I first started working out here there was one girl at the front desk who would bring McDonalds with her to work. She would shovel it into her mouth while checking in guests who were there to get healthier. They need to work on hiring people who actually care about their fitness and health. Not openly display their lack of care. I honestly don't care if you splurge once in awhile (because if you look at my profile you'll know I do!), but keep it at home not at the gym! Planet Fitness is dirt cheap and they give you lots for the price. Truth be told, this place isn't as nice and doesn't offer as much compared to the $85/month gym I used to go to.
