I have been going to this business for many years with my family. I'm a very generous tipper. These people work hard and I've always respected their work. We've always chosen the more expensive categories and upsells. A few weeks ago I had my usual gel pedicure removed and decided to give my nails a break with a simple pedicure. Not having paid attention while she was working it was obvious, when I noticed chipping and unevenness on my nail bed that she did not follow protocol when removing the gel. I removed the polish and saw that she hadn't filed them. They were not what I expected, but they came out looking lovely. He took his time and was very attentive to detail. He knew what an American French manicure was without me having to explain it, and he did the off-white part freehand with no mistakes... Pretty amazing. He also did my pedicure, which went very fast, and he was extremely efficient. Totally happy with the outcome of both. I felt like the tools and equipment they were using were clean, so I did not have any concerns about sanitation. I'm dinging them a star because I think the price is high for the ambience. It's fine in there but certainly nothing special. Maybe that's just the neighborhood -- like I said, I am from out of town. Rents are probably really high here. I hate to do this because I have been coming here for years, and all has been well. Today I came in for a mani/pedi and the man that worked on my feet was so aggressive that he left me bleeding on nearly every toe. Gel is slopped all over my feet. He clipped the nails short, and then filed them down so far that it bled. He nearly threw my shoes at me in dismissal. I felt that the whole thing was rushed to get me in and out as fast as possible even though there were empty chairs. Now, I've worked with all of the women here, and they are much gentler and take their time. If you choose to go here, ask for one of the women. I'm sorry to say it this way, but maybe the men just don't know enough about being on the receiving end of a pedicure. It's supposed to be a relaxing experience. It's very easy to book an appointment--all you have to do is call their number, and they'll put your name down. However, while getting a manicure and pedicure done, I learned that they do indeed accept walk-ins and never turn anyone away (wow!). There is no doubt that everyone here works so hard. The nails came out nice, but I feel like they didn't take too much time on the feet soles, - so for both pedicure gel and manicure gel and taking off two acrylic nails on my toes I paid $100; found it a little on the high side, but I guess we're in We-ho. I love Planet Nails because they have really friendly service and always seem to make time for you even if you need to pop in relatively last minute. I suggest giving them a call in advance just to be safe. They're better staffed than some of the other nail salons nearby, so I never feel like they rush me. I love getting pedicures in their cozy massage chairs. I feel like it's so relaxing. My pedis always last well and they do a great job to help you get into your flip flops so you don't mess up your nails. They are really clean and they use disposable bags to line the foot tubs so that your feet never touch a shared tub. I have never had any health issues here so that's another reason to keep coming back! Their manis are also great! I usually do a French manicure and they suggested adding glitter to it one time, which I LOVED! So that's my new mani look here. The ambiance is relaxing with their fake aquarium and bubble sounds! And it never smells too strongly of acetone in there, which I really appreciate! Honestly, I'll keep coming back because of their friendly service. Regular pedicure: there was some care and thoroughness to the actual pedicure portion but lack of attention to detail on the cleanliness of polish application. Edges of big toenails were exposed and nail polish was messily applied to remainder of toes. Had to ask for a clean up, but even afterwards nail polish was still on skin. Cuticle on right second toe was also clipped and bleeding. Regular Manicure: Only one coat of color was applied and looked thin but passable for a couple days but now ballet pink coloration is fading to an orange ombré.
