Planet Thai was not too shabby. I don't know how much Thai food there really is in Lexington, since I am not from there, just have visited 3 times. The food is AMAZINGLY spicy. You can ask for the spiciness on scale from 1-5. I got my food at a 1 and I was dying, I had to order Thai Iced Tea so I could drink the milk part down to cool my tongue! I don't know HOW spicy a 5 is, but I think my head might explode if I tried it. I tried the red curry w/ tofu, it had a great flavor but the spiciness masked how awesome it truly was. Plus they only had white rice, and I am used to being able to get brown rice in LA! The Planet Thai Noodles were really tasty, super delicious and I would highly recommend these! Just make it not spicy if you can't handle heat. And add peanut sauce, it takes the spice level down and adds a great bit of flavor. There are also very large portions here, so good deal. It's okay in a pinch. I ordered two pad Thai dishes to go recently. I requested one out of four stars of heat on one and three out of four on the other. They were exactly the same:no spice at all. We had to order twice and it took them so long to realize that it never went through we ended up having to get it to go. Literally every table who arrived after us had already received their food. Food was below average, plum sauce was corn syrupy, and you have to choose between veggies or tofu if vegetarian you will have to pay extra if you want both. I'm giving it a "1" without tasting a bite. Why??? Because we ordered online 1 hour and 50 minutes ago and haven't seen hide nor hair of the delivery. When I called Planet Thai at the 1 hour and 20 minute mark, was first told they had not received my online order. I gave them the order number from the confirmation email and was told they still didn't have it. When I said it was from "delivery.com" he suddenly remembered that the order had gone out 10 minutes prior to my calling. That was 35 minutes ago. Waze lists it as 3.2 miles from my front door. Why, oh why, did I have it delivered??? It is NOT a game night in Lexington, so that excuse can't be used. Buyer Beware. UPDATE: The food arrived after 1 hour 50 minutes. The driver said she had just picked up the order and I am inclined to believe her as it was very hot. Sounds like the problem is on the Planet Thai end and not the delivery end. Took my son, I hyped it up due to eating here while going to BCTC. We were both sadly disappointed his seafood was extremely rubbery and my garlic peppered beef was not at all good. I wasn't a fan. I've visited twice, once to dine in and once for take out. First visit was with a bunch of friends.. it wasn't a bad experience as far as service goes, but food did not do it for me. I'm Thai and my family owns a Thai restaurant in Atlanta, so it may be a different standard that I'm used to, but nothing I ordered both times had flavors that I crave when I crave authentic Thai food. It might be a personal al opinion, but I definitely feel it has been Americanized and I wouldn't say Americanized in a good way. Service for to go was terrible. The young man who took my order and handled my food may have been having a horrible day, but treating your paying customers like they are a burden is a big no. I came back to try something new and hopefully give Planet Thai another chance with something new, but after service on to go... I doubt I'll be making a return visit. read more

Ah-mazing!! Simply, amazing!! Okay, I've only gotten 2 things here but I've been a lot and always get the same thing because it's so delicious!! I love the Pad Thai!! You get a ton of food for only $7.47. I have never been able to eat the entire meal and always end up taking it home for the next meal. You tell them what level of spicy-ness you want (1-5; 1 being least spicy and 5 being the most) and then they start cookin! You always get a bowl of soup to go with it and a spring roll. The Pad Thai has noodles, peanuts, carrots, eggs, and duck sauce on it (you choose your meat or vegetarian). "Planet Thai is awesome, you have to try it," I was told after lamenting my experience at Pad Thai, AKA the worst money I've spent since moving to Lexington. The recommendation was being offered by somebody I barely knew, but she was some kind of Asian (as am I), so I went for it. We pulled in front of a small but quaint establishment off of Nicholasville Rd., and entered through the door not marked "out of order". The server/hostess, who wasn't any kind of Asian but was friendly nonetheless, seated us in a small booth. The environment was pleasant enough. Ignoring the peeling wallpaper next to my wife's head, I instead scanned the menu. The usual fare greeted my gaze, along with a few new takes on old friends. I settled on the "Planet Thai Noodles", while my lady-friend ordered "Drunken Noodles". Our meals were palatable. The drunken noodles were a bit too sweet, and the noodles a touch dry. The Planet Thai noodles were tasty, and at a 2 on a 5-scale for spice, I only had to add a little bit of Thai chili sauce. I found these a bit dry as well, but the curry flavor was pleasant. I'll order it without pineapple next time. Is Planet Thai awesome? Not for me. Thai Orchid, which I'll probably review eventually, has better drunken noodles and is more convenient for me to get to. I can see going to Planet Thai for the occasional change of pace. I'd give Planet Thai 2.5 stars if I could. Is Planet Thai the best Lexington has to offer? Based on the high praise I've heard for it, it's starting to look that way. Though with the buzz Baan Isaan Thai Gourmet is starting to get on Yelp (with several questionable, possibly shill reviews), that has yet to be determined. read more

The Thai iced coffee is divine. The food is pretty good, too. The restaurant is clean, and the waitresses are friendly. So far, I've tried the basil eggplant, the won ton soup, the rice noodle seafood soup, and the chicken ginger. The chicken ginger was excellent. The rice noodle soup was chocked full of seafood, scallops, mussels, squid, and shrimp--Yum! The broth of the won ton soup and the BBQ pork were excellent, and the won tons were decent. (My Asian friends would tell me that they used the "wrong type" of won tons.) The won ton soup would be perfect if they used the right type of won tons. The eggplant basil dish was very good, too. I enjoy Thai food over Chinese food any day; however, I have yet to find a Chinese eatery that isn't Americanized. If I can make the food at home, I do not want to eat there. Give me a Chinese eatery that is authentic, and I would be more than happy to eat there. Planet Thai is an excellent eatery. I do not give them 5 stars, because in Los Angeles, I find authentic Thai food that is excellent. However, I am very happy to find Planet Thai in Kentucky. Very poor experience at Planet Thai and I would gve ZERO stars if that was an option. Horrifically slow service and meal arrived 50 minutes after the order was placed. Server told us on several occasions it would be there in 3 minutes. I heard that numerous times and they offered no apologies, etc. Also, you should check their Health Dept rating. Started with the pot stickers, they were delicious! I was excited to dive into my Tofu Drunken Noodles. Unfortunately the meal peaked with the appetizer. The menu description said they came with bell peppers, tomatoes, onions and basil. There were green peppers and onions, but carrots instead of tomatoes. We ordered takeout, so I didn't feel like driving another 15 minutes for my juicy tomatoes. I've had a similar dish at Thai Smile in Frankfort, KY that blew this one away. Placed a to go order for Lemmongrass Chicken with rice noodles and spring rolls. Plenty of food but very disappointed with the chicken. When I ordered it I asked if I could subsitite noodles for rice and was told there would be a $2 chaarge. OK but I asked if there would be plenty of peanut sauce to pour over the noodles.Of course he said. NOT. There was barely enough to cover 1/4 serving. I ended up having to make my own peanut sauce for the rest of the dish. I kind of suspect it is because it was a to go order which is sad that they don't treat their to go customers like their dine in customers.
