We have been going to him for years, always have to leave numerous messages to talk to Ken. This year he neglected to complete my college daughters return. I emailed and left several messages, he finally returned my call a month later and told me he would need to look into it and call me back. He never called back and I left several messages and emails again. I was very patient, thought he had some personal or health is but that was not the case. Very unprofessional! I would have given no star if that was possible. I don't know what Ken's problem is. He has done our taxes over the last few years and there was never an issue until this year. My husband dropped off our taxes and my mother in laws in March and we have not heard from him or his secretary since then! We have been calling and leaving numerous messages asking to just pick up our W2's at this point and still no answer. I don't understand how someone can be so unprofessional and inconsiderate as a business owner. I also don't understand how he even has any clients. Now after reading the rest of these one star reviews it all makes sense. At this point we are desperate for our taxes and/or W2's so that we can refinance our house and he is basically holding them hostage. I am guessing my next step is to call the police to go to his office with me. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well. This is complete BS! read more

After actually being recommended by someone I trusted, the whole experience dealing with Ken Plante has been a disaster. To summarize, he is NEVER available, does not return phone calls, emails, certified mail, or any other form of information request. At present time I have been attempting to contact him for nearly 6 months with zero success. I am trying to manage the estate of my brother (I am the Executor for his estate) and I live 400 miles away. I have attempted to have my attorney contact him unsuccessfully. I have sent him checks made out to the IRS and the State of Illinois for taxes due...for him to mail...3 months ago...and the checks have not been cashed. I am assuming I am incurring penalties and interest as I write. What a rude, incompetent individual. Don't know who else to complain to besides here, the Better Business Bureau, and the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. read more

After being recommended by a financial management company, I had Ken prepare my cousin's taxes for a number of years without issue. In the last few years we started having problems with the IRS. They claimed that there was money owed from previous years going back to 2012. Illinois claimed that they weren't even filed for one year and money and penalties were owed. When I questioned Ken, he made excuses and said that he would take care of it all but he didn't. I was getting IRS letters with penalties piling up and ended up paying the fines. Ken said he would recover the money but as far as I can tell he made no effort to do so. Like the other reviewer here David J, he didn't respond in any way to my calls or emails and was usually never in. I had to stop at his office to confront him, but once again all he could offer was excuses. I finally had enough and gave up and hired a different accountant who is still straightening things out. At my last conversation with Ken I asked for all of the info he had that was my cousin's (assuming it would all be in some kind of computer file) but he said all he had was paper stored. If you go to his office there are boxes of papers stacked all over the place. It seems very unprofessional. I thought about taking legal action against him but I'm sure it would just be a waste of time. My advice? Stay away! read more

Ken Plante prepared my taxes for a number of years. As years passed, he became less and less available for personal contact (not available for 1-2 phone calls/ year), and seemed not to care about my taxes in particular. He was not able to provide any tax information other than what most people (even me, a layperson, knows). This year, I sent in my tax info to him late March/ very early April. Although late in the tax year, it was still well within April 15 deadline. He put an extension on it and said he could not do it in time. I called him multiple times over the course of 2-3 months following, and he did not return my calls. When he finally did, he had attitude. Finally, we ended up filing three months later, and ended up owing cash to the IRS, which of course is fair. However, what Ken did not tell us was that there is a HUGE fee for an extension when you owe money ($600), plus interest charges incurred since April 15. When I tried to contact Ken to discuss, he simply did not return multiple phone calls, emails, etc. I would NEVER recommend Ken Plante for accounting services. He is fired. read more

Ken Plante has been doing my taxes for over ten years. He was quick in preparing returns and charged a very reasonable fee. When preparing my taxes I noticed a small mistake which I immediately brought to his attention. He assured me this was no issue and to submit my taxes to the IRS as is, and they would notify me an adjustment needed to be made. He did NOT inform me that the error would result in large penalties and fees. Once I notified him of the notice I received from the IRS he told me he would contact them and get a payment plan going. That never happened, so I followed up with him not only once but twice. Still nothing. After three phone calls to his office still no resolution, or even a follow up call. Being a long time client who made numerous referrals to his office, I expected a higher level of customer service. read more
