I've visited several nurseries since I moved to Tucson. They carry the plants you would expect to see for this region. Plants for the Southwest is on another level. It's like visiting a botanical garden. There is a jaw-dropping variety of incredibly beautiful and exotic plants from the tiny to monster size. Prices are quite high but this nursery is where you come to find that one plant which can anchor your home landscape visually. I walked away with a small almost white cactus from the Chihuahua region of Mexico. As I have my front and rear yards de-uglified -- I'll claim the copyright to that new word -- in the coming months, I'll be sure that my little cactus has a special place to grow and shine. This place is amazing. Some of the most beautiful cacti I've ever seen and all sizes. Staff is awesome and their six-toed tabby is adorable not to mention the lab that was living his (her?) best life ever, just sunbathing and being loved on. Apparently they grow from seed, which is mind-blowing to say the least. All the plants looked well cared for and prices are definitely reasonable but the greatest asset is the staff who is patient and willing to talk to you and answer your questions. They clearly love desert plants and are walking encyclopedias! With Tucson's water shortages, it's always a good idea to stick to native plants in home landscaping so for a huge variety and some great tips, this is the place to come to. Oh, and free repotting if you buy a plant and a pot and they have some beautiful handmade ones! read more

I found this large city lot of low water vegetation, on the north side of Grant, by accident. I was immediately impressed by the variety of New and Old World desert plants. Go to Desert Survivors for indigenous only Tucson plants but go here for access to cosmopolitan xeriscape plants. I love this place. read more

This nursery was close to our hotel and as we were leaving Tucson, I decided to "just stop in for a minute." This place is packed with both the usual and unusual cactus and succulent plants. I felt like a kid ina candy store while my husband just waited for my excitement to subside. I found a cactus specimen I had been looking for several years (and a unique pot to put it in) and selected another plant that also spoke to me. The prices were reasonable and the staff was helpful. Some of their pottery was gorgeous and perfect for the plants they showed them in. My plants are now home, re-potted and enjoying Phoenix. I am still excitedly annoying all our non-interested friends with my new "babies". read more

I've been going here for the last year to source cactus for my online shop, and the owners and staff are all so helpful and friendly. I've come to really look forward stopping by and having a chat with the people who work there, they are all so passionate and knowledgeable about plants. They have some really fantastic unique desert plants there and are world famous in certain cactus circles for growing certain specimens like lithops and mesembs. Their prices are extremely fair if you know what rare plants they offer and their market rate, they are actually super inexpensive. Anyone complaining about prices just isn't aware what certain rare species go for- their pricing is fair enough for me to be able to still profit and offer them for a deal online, so I think that says a lot about their pricing. Definitely a collector's paradise for hard to find plants, and a fun place to spend an afternoon browsing all kinds of things you've likely never seen before. I end up keeping lot of what I buy from them for my personal collection. They have great prices on a lot of smaller starter plants as well as some stunning huge landscaping specimens, local pottery, garden sculptures by local artists, and all kinds of interesting ceramics and stoneware. No other place like it, and well worth a visit. read more

Where do I begin with Plants For the Southwest... there are so many plants, bonsais, and regular sized trees, succulents and cacti! I was here for over an hour my first just browsing their selection I ended up purchasing a number of small bonsai trees and couldn't be happier. The customer service is amazing the staff are extremely helpful guiding you through the nursery and answering any specific questions you may have about the plants they offer. This nursery is a true Tucson treasure. It is clearly a labor of love by a very skilled team of horticulturists. Visiting this nursery is like entering a botanical garden. The plants are well cared for and the plant selection is out of this world. If you are looking for lithops look no further! There are reasons why this place is so good for me, and it took me a long time to end up writing a review. For years I bought all my plants friends that are plant people and wholesalers, all of these people are no longer in business. I have planted hundreds of plants in my yard and in pots over the years experimenting with new and different plants. Some of the plants have worked and others have bit the dust going from the extreme heat to the extreme cold. Global warming is happening!!! So now I go here because it is close to my house and is of a similar micro-climate. I snoop around and ask which plants have managed to make it through both weather extremes with little or minimal effort. The little to no effort is important because I am gone for long stretches of time and someone else takes care of my potted plants and yard. This is my go to place for expensive plants for pots that will survive. It is worth the price! read more

I like this little nursery because the owners are always friendly when I see them. They're knowledgeable and are often at the local cactus and succulent sales with an interesting assortment of plants. The nursery itself is heavy on the mesembs and caudiciforms, but there's some good stuff if you ask. The plants they sell are not always the easiest for the weekend grower, so make sure you know what you're buying before you drop the cash! They're certainly not the most economical of local C&S nurseries, but certainly worth the visit. read more
