It is, without reservation, the best waterside restaurant I've had the pleasure to visit since moving to Spain more than two years ago. While many of the dishes are traditional, they *do* have a wonderful twist on many recipes... from tapas (like patatas bravas - what a sauce!) to their casera (homemade) dishes, like their various paellas. Our group opted for a half dozen different tapas (the calamares a la roman were my favorite), and then we shared the "arroz pulpito" paella. Truly outstanding! The good people of Hostal Les Piques hit it out of the park! First of all they get hospitality. (something so many restaurants lack). They make you feel like one of the family. The restaurant is located in a beautiful place in the countryside and the interior is rustic and appealing to the eye. We were intrigued by so many wonderful culinary delights. We enjoyed duck served on a 300 degree stone so we could slice a bite and cook it for a few moments on each side- add a little coarse salt and taste the magic! They also served some amazing big long onions - we pulled off the charred outer husk to reveal an amazing roasted onion to dip into a little pot of delicious sauce and hold aloft to descend into our mouths. Do NOT neglect to see their "Suggeriments fora de Carta" on a chalkboard. Most every off-the-chart suggestion we tried was exceptional, with my favorite actually being Tomaquets de Temporada amp Burratina í old D'Alfabrega. This was probably the best Burrata and Tomatoes serving I've ever tasted. It must be their spiced basil oil. The other standout special was a delicious Pintxo de Foie a la Plantxa, luxurious grilled foie gras skewer. A couple of drag queens came in promoting their show. They were a hoot at our table. Because of the reviews we saw online, we knew that El Cable Bar was one place that we simply could not miss. Our bike ride to El Cable was easy. There are plenty of places to lock them up on trees lining the streets leading to the restaurant. When you walk inside, it might be busy, as this is a popular place for people who know about the restaurant. We sat down and were immediately served. Price-wise, everything looks good- not too expensive for drinks, and reasonable for the food. Move any closer to the beach, and I'm certain these prices go up by at least 50% for the same or fewer portions. I happily order patatas bravas, a sirloin and eggplant combo, another eggplant tapas, and fingers de pollo. From the tinto de verano to every last tapas, it was all simple, yet delicious.
