I came here a few times the first one they offered me $8 for an essentials jacket and some clean never worn Nike shoes! I took them back and gave them away for free. I came back after a year to hr disappointed again they didn't even look in the bag because my clothes and books were still on top. They claimed they couldn't accept anything due to condition... and I asked nothing at all? It was a bag full of clothes. The staff was very unprofessional, the girl who told me was laughing and smiling... and wasn't direct at all, and both of them Claimed they didn't go thru my stuff. If I could I would give zero stars. Went there Saturday to sell. As always lowball offers. Absolutely absurd. The worse is they did not make an offer on a leather jacket. This was my second attempt and now my last time. The Plato's Closet needs to update on their website about what's in season. I had one top that was clearly a "Spring/Summer" top and they didn't accept it. It was from Forever21!! I thought on their website says "we buy sweaters, long sleeves shirts, etc". I brought fall clothes from name brand stores: zara, express, hollister, American eagle, addidas etc. when I came to pick up my stuff, turns out they didn't buy a single thing because they're looking for fall and winter stuff (which was evrything I brought) and because they are looking for name brands like Zara etc (WHICH WAS PRACTICALLY ALL MY CLOTHES) THEY DIDNT EVEN OPEN OR GO THROUGH MY ITEMS AND I WAITED 4 HOURS! You never know what you're going to get going in Plato's to shop or sell. It's really personal preference based on the employee that sorts through your items. THEY either love it or they don't. Naperville location is iffy and picky, as opposed to Joliet location. Funnny. Considering Joliet has WAY better prices, brands, and options. When you shop here make sure you give yourself a good 2 hours, because there is so much stuff to look through and it's unorganized. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLATOS. brought in clothes and it took over 4 hours when they said it would take 2 while a bunch of employees sitting around and not doing anything. some employee who i assume was a shift lead saying other employees need to go home when the store smells, looks gross, and the entire back half of the store is unbelievably disorganized. when i finally got my bags back my clothes were COVERED in dust and something that i think was ripped up tissues or toilet paper when i had brought them all washed. the customer service was okay but couldn't make up for the rest of the experience. do not recommend at all and similar things have happened every time i come to this location. i would give zero stars if i read more

Honestly I would never rate something low, but my experience was so bad and not only once. I have always known the Naperville location is iffy when it comes to selling but this time it was awful. I brought in three bags of fall clothing that are super cute and barely worn and it took them about 15 minutes to sort and then when I get my bags back. Only took three things from one bag. The rest of the bags has not been looked through everything was the way I left it, all the way up to the order and folding. I am very disappointed and I wrote this a year ago and didn't submit it but it was saved a year later where I have them another go and brought items that are extremely brand name and brand new and once again was hugely disappointed. Walked in on Feb 10 2022 at approximately 4:30pm. I am African American. None of the employees said one word to me. They didn't greet me or ask if I needed help, didn't even say goodbye when I walked out. Then they proceeded to greet and help Caucasian customers that walked in after me. This store is terrible. The girls working don't look like they even shower and they could care less if you are a customer. The clothes are dingy and nothing is hung correctly. It smells mildewy and old. Not worth your time...I honestly do not understand how they sell anything. I brought two huge bags of my three teenagers clothing. Everything was folded nicely when I handed it off to them. After my 45 minutes was up, I went to the counter, was asked very rudely if I waited the 45 minutes. I said yes, they gave back one bag which was torn and the clothes were just thrown back in. Most of the clothes were not even unfolded, so not even looked at, Just jumbled into a ball and thrown back into my now torn bag. They wanted nothing except for a few of my sons Nike shorts. I had to ask for the second bag which was in the same condition. I will NEVER go to this place again. From now on, I will continue to sell on Poshmark, Threadup or Goodwill. read more

Just visited this location recently. The staff were alright not extremely nice but not rude either. To be fair it was a Friday mid day after 3pm, it was crowded with teenagers lol. But I mean IT IS a clothing store for a younger crowd. I'm in my early 20s so I was trying to sell some clothes that don't fit me, they were lightly used to new condition. I was offered $7 for three flannels and one denim jacket. I definitely did NOT sell and took my stuff. Otherwise I would definitely come again with friends to shop around. Don't even waste your time. I've gone on a number of occasions with brands with good names never worn and I'm always given the same answer... "it won't sell here", "you should try clothes mentor" (which already told me I should try Plato's closet), "it's heavily worn" (it's brand new never worn before). They always have a wait time of minimum 2 hours (usually 4) every time I've gone in. When I go to pick up my clothes they take nothing and my clothes have barely been shifted in the bag which tells me they didn't even bother to look at what I brought. In the very rare occasion I've made any money off them I spent more in gas money so it wasn't even worth it. I've also been told a number of times to come back another day because they aren't taking anymore orders. read more

Generally I love Plato's closet but this location has a couple workers with serious attitude. I've been coming here a while and there are times I won't be greeted/sent off/met with a "hello" or basic customer service acknowledgment. Instead I get a "fill this out" "is this all" but tonight a brunette worker locked me and another customer grabbing a card from her car out at 8:01. When another customer let us in, this worker demanded that I get out since I wasn't there before 8pm. I was only there to pick up my grocery sized bag of clothes that were all ready for me. (Not to buy, or take up more than 30 seconds of this girls time) I even called previously to see if it was okay if I came later to pick it up. Gave this location a 2 star for this reason. read more

Have the ugliest out of style items and rejected all my items. most of my items are still in style and even have tags and receipts and were sold on other online platforms. Either they don't have money to buy items or the staff have no idea what are in style. All my items were rejected and I sold some of them already on other online platforms. They need better staff that have more knowledge of what's in style & are always looking on online platforms to see what's being sold daily. They need to research what items are hot. Everything they have in the store is wack and old. And I would never buy any. I am getting rid of my stuff because I have gain weight from having a baby and can no longer fit into XS and size 0 like I use to. The girl I'm assuming was the manager was so rude as soon as I walked in @ 745 to sell/shop I started filling out the slip after an associate greeted me and showed me to the QR code. The manager walks up and said um it's mandatory same day pick up.. and I said as opposed to? Aren't you guys gonna have it done tonight? She said yeah but it will be 45 minutes. I said okay that's fine I can run to the store next door I finished filling out my slip and asked if they got it she said they did (while seeming so annoyed with me for idk what reason) I go next door get the text they will be done at 815 which I was like oh okay perfect I go back in shopped had a handful of items I was willing to purchase. And there was 4-5 total employees talking the whole time with maybe 2-3 customers 4 including myself. They did not get done until 833 when I got the last update for my 1 BASKET of clothes...I walk up to the desk and the manager was there she tells the guy associate to ring me up and I was like oh yeah I can get that stuff seeing that my basket was just on the checkout counter openly next to me. She's like he's gonna ask to see your ID. Like talking for him it but not to me it was so odd. I asked for what my stuff? (That they didn't buy any of). The manager was super young so didn't expect her or anyone to like go above and beyond to be happy towards me but she didn't have to treat me like that I'm not even sure what the problem was with the eye rolls and attitude. I never felt so odd, unwelcome and uncomfortable in a shopping environment. I just last minute said I didn't want anything anymore I left all the things I was going to buy and that sale they missed out on. Don't waste your time here. After waiting 4+ hrs to get an alert that my items were ready for pickup, they let me know they wouldn't be taking any items. That would be fine normally, but they clearly didn't even look through my bags as it was all in the same exact position as when I took it in. I am also confused as to why it took so long when the employees are just standing behind the counter scrolling on their phones. Absolutely terrible staff and place. I went in on Monday and they told me they were not taking anymore orders. The lady was very rude and slow and didn't look at me while speaking telling me to come back tomorrow morning no other context. This store is 30 minutes away from me so it's not an easy commute. I come back the next day same lady is there and i drop of my stuff at 11:30AM and she says it will be ready at 2. So i go all the way back home again and when i got in my driveway it said it was ready. So i could have waited 30 minutes but they told me it would be 2 and a half hours. I get back to the store after that walk in and the same rude lady made me sound stupid when i was answering questions lots of attitude from her. I got to the counter and was told they are not taking any of my name brand stuff because it wasn't going to sell, i look in the bag and nothing was even checked or unfolded it was the same as i left it which means they didn't even take the time to look at anything which is why it was done so fast. So after an hour and a half of driving to and from with much attitude from the staff i come up with nothing and no effort to even look at what i brought for my troubles. I am very disappointed with my recent trip to this Plato's closet. I walked in with a large tote of all different sizes and styles of clothes. When I organized the tote I had all of the clothing nicely folded so they could see what was what and go through it. I waited the hour that I was told and came back to the store to find my bag torn apart. I understand they have to go through the clothing, but I expect the clothes to be folded back into the bag. They took a few items so you would think the bag would be less empty. The bag was overflowing and the items were shoved back in there. When I walked it out to the parking lot my items were falling out of the bag. On top of that the workers were not friendly at all. I will be not going back to this Plato's closet. I much rather go to the Goodwill across the street and donate my clothes. read more

I brought several pairs of guys jeans in today - Hollister and PacSun - which are both brands that they are looking for according to their website. They took one pair and when I asked why just one, she said the rest were 'well loved". The rest probably were worn less than 10 times each as my son went through a growth spurt. As other commenters have said, it makes no sense. So many items on the racks have stains, pilling, tiny holes, or are just plain out of style. Their buy back is too subjective. At this point I've been to pretty much every single Plato's Closet within a 100 mile radius of Chicago and I've learned not all Plato's are the same, and there's definitely been great ones and not so great ones. But this location on Sunday, September 17th was an absolute disaster and probably the worst looking/organized Plato's I've ever attempted to shop in. First I REALLY hope there's a owner who reads these reviews, because clearly you need to reconsider your staff and management. We walked in about 2 hours after the store opened and the place was a wreck - like Black Friday wreck. Clothes and shoes all over the floor. You couldn't move clothes on the racks, and what clothes you could pull out successfully (without have to untangle hangers from straps and other hangers) were not even the size that was suppose to be in the area. Every single aisle was this way. How in 2 hours of opening, can a store be in this much disrepair. Not to mention the 3 girls I saw working here looked SUPER unhappy, and getting their attention wasn't easy. One was focused on trying to put back fitting work clothes and didn't look up at all from her task, and the 2 girls at the register look just plain defeated and uninterested in even pretending to like their job. After attempting to continue browsing, I gave up and got in line with the 1 item I could get my hands on. The wait time for the line was a bit ridiculous. To this stores defense there at one point was a pretty rude customer who made the time even longer due to a credit card issue and a bad attitude (girl manning register kept her cool, good job). BUT this store made you want to have a bad attitude. Even my typical passive personality was not so passive anymore. I actually ended up putting my item down that I was planning on buying and leave out of annoyance. SO to sum it up, this store NEEDS to be reorganized and cleaned up. I can't imagine the disaster happened in 2 hours. I'm willing to bet this store wasn't cleaned up from the night prior, and that's just bad retail. read more

Went here for the first time yesterday to drop off clothes. This was my first time "selling" and I wasn't sure how it worked. I walked in and there were a few other people dropping off clothing. I was completely ignored by the girls behind the counter, but I saw other people writing on the form so I grabbed one and started filling it out. As I was finishing, I told one of the girls that wasn't helping anyone that I had never done this before and asked if I should bring my bags in now or wait until I handed the other girl my form. She completely ignored my question and just said that the other girl would help me. Finally I was able to figure out how it worked on my own, handed the other girl my form, and went out to my car and brought everything in. They said it would be a two hour wait. I came back over two hours later and went up to the same area, after waiting in line the girl told me I needed to get in the other line, where I waited again, only to be not so pleasantly greeted by another girl who told me they could only buy two items and ended up giving me back my six bags of clothes-bags which had plenty of name brand items in great condition. The whole experience was extremely frustrating. I work in and teach customer service and everything about my experience was wrong. The effort was not worth the pain and I definitely will not be going back again, especially to be treated that way. I don't know if all locations are like that or if I would have had better luck at a more established location, where employees actually are held accountable for the way they treat people, but sadly this first time customer won't be back, and will definitely have a thing or two to say when anyone brings up the name Platos Closet. read more

I don't want to leave even one star, the girls that were working today were MEAN. Not rude- down right mean. Like, who hurt you??? I wanted to ask as I was leaving why they were so mad. I was so polite, even pleasant from the moment I walked in. I work in a restaurant, I know what it's like to deal with people all day. I know what it's like to be understaffed. I would NEVER talk to anyone the way I was talked to today. Multiple times. No eye contact. I felt like I was an inconvenience to them.... Hi. THIS IS YOUR JOB. I just do not understand-When I get to deal with a nice customer it makes my day. Was trying to be the nice person in their day and it didn't matter. These two hated their lives and jobs. And everyone around them. The 2 Hispanic girls. One had eyelash extensions, the other one was wearing glasses. They were both NASTY. Worst attitudes ever. There are plenty of people who need jobs- I literally do not know why these two have one. If I was the owner I'd rather come in on my day off than have them dealing with my customers. Awful. They made me feel so uncomfortable and not welcome at all from the moment I walked in to sell, til the end when I actually bought something. I am sorry. But I will never return. I've been to and sold at a couple of Plato's closet before.. and as of late their staff really sucks at this location and they're so rude!! I've worked retail the past 10 years and I've never seen workers so lazy and rude to the people that give them business.. I went in to sell some of my clothes.. mostly name brand.. pink, h&m, aeropastle, Nike, etc... the "supervisor" said they would literally buy one item from my bag that literally had about 35 items... mostly brand new or worn once.. no rips or stains whatsoever.. I even went to clothes mentor and they were shocked to know that they didn't want to purchase any of my items.. all while they have faded pink leggings/ shirts etc in the racks for sale!!! And another thing the store was a complete disaster! Clothes and shoes all on the floor it looked ridiculous! I am a former employee of this particular Plato's Closet. I went back as a customer today, and it was a mistake. No matter what this company tried (or didn't try) The service I saw my then-coworkers giving was always the same-- "Thanks for bringing in your items. We passed on these due to style and/or condition. We can offer you $___ for these." The lack of morale, the lack of effort, the fact that the teenaged girls around me were always hungry, tired, upset, or stressed...it wasn't a healthy place to be and customers constantly witnessed it. Just read the other reviews. I'm writing this because I went back to this location for the first time in months. And from a now-outsider's perspective, unfortunately not much has changed. I brought in two bags of clothes. Some of my items were questionable or a little bit older, but the majority of them were from very fashion-forward brands, as I do put in a lot of effort to keep up with current trends. Fashion Nova, Pacsun, Forever21, Brandy Melville, True Religion, Missguided, some of the brands and styles I know they go crazy for. Keep in mind I also know their average selling prices (50-70% below retail value) and the percent I could expect to receive on each item (30-40% of their selling price.) This is something you have to ask about to learn. My clothes had no stains, no odor. In fact, unlike many sellers who brought in dirty socks and stained underwear (which we don't even buy), I took the time to actually wash these clothes one more time before I came in. I was offered $9 and some change for distressed True Religion shorts, ripped American Eagle jeans and Kim Kardashian inspired sock boots that I've probably worn twice. I knew that going in there could be awkward, but this was just bizarre. The employee cashing me out kept apologizing to me, as if she knew they should have taken or offered me more. But that is just a guess. When I asked what was wrong with my clothes, as we all have, she said it was the "style". If you don't want trendy, gently used brand name clothes...maybe that shouldn't be your motto. ‍ So if you made it this far in my review, and have read the other ones, you know you can expect a crappy experience at this location. I cannot speak for any other Plato's Closet, but I can confidently say that this establishment does little to nothing to support or empower their employees, and that shows to their customers. Not to mention the constant drama, pettiness, hiring/firing, horrible pay (nobody over the age of 21 can live comfortably on this, so they only hire kids?), short breaks, understaffing, giving store keys to girls who can't even legally vote yet...this place was a hot mess then, and it's a hot mess now. I left the store feeling the same way almost all of the reviewers under me do: confused, frustrated, uninformed. Instead of elaborating on why exactly my never worn PacSun tee, halter crop tops, or Pink leggings aren't "styles they are looking for," (but definitely were not too long ago...?) It was quickly brushed over and said in a very close-ended way. Can't really argue with that, so I didn't. When I left the store, a complete stranger asked if she could buy one of my "unstylish" dresses off of me... Upon doing the math, after the fact, I realized each item was priced oddly low compared to the selling prices I had gotten accustomed to seeing, logging, and setting firsthand, for a little bit over a year. You can find the items they took for $16+ on Plato's sales floor. Especially True Religion, which usually gets a price of $20-$45. But they priced each of my items at around $10 for me to make the measly $9 and some coins. Im not sure why they would have changed their buying criteria or pricing system so significantly..or maybe they didn't. ‍ In conclusion, I'm very disappointed with this store. Still. Very sad to see they've done nothing to change and do right by the ones that give them business. Horrible environment to shop at or work at, especially because I always tried my best to go above and beyond for customers and be genuine with them. I hardly saw anyone else do it. If you want money for stuff you don't wear, there's Depop, PoshMark, even EBay would be better. It's not as quick, but you'll make a lot more $$$ and also not get treated like an idiot who can't dress themselves. Save your time and money and avoid this place like the plague read more
