This location is not great. To start, the store is run by high school students who clearly hate their job and would rather be anywhere else than helping you. The clothes are overpriced. In fact, they'll sell you target clothes for double the price you would pay originally. Then, they are always overstocked, but will take your clothes and make you wait over an hour just for them to pick up one piece of clothing out of the bag and say they can't take any of it. Would be nice if they didn't waste our time like that. Do better. read more

They are overpriced- for sure. There is no consistency with what they take. I retake clothes there all the time- I just took a whole batch that they passed on and I made 40$. They basically take anything that's a bra shirt and have weird vintage clothes. They have a lot of clearance because the clothes are overpriced to begin with. There's barely anywhere to walk in there. If they had cheaper prices to bring with, they would take more clothes, and able to buy more. I literally made a yelp account to post this to warn others. I had one bin of clothing to donate. I get there as it turns 6:59pm to 7pm. I walk in, the person, who wasn't mean at least, says "oh we stop taking donations at 7." I asked if they were serious, because I looked up their hours prior, and it says they're open till 9. It did not look busy enough that they'd have donations to go through till when they close, and it does not say anywhere that they stop taking clothes then. I don't live close, and thats pretty crappy that they say they stop taking them where there's no sign or apparent reason. Will happily go to other locations. read more

Not sure how to feel about this location. Kind of a hit or a miss. I found sweatpants in really liked here onetime but haven't found anything the last couple times I've went. I recently went there to donate clothes and i had some good things in the bin, but they didn't take anything. (By good I mean good condition and brand names like American eagle). I can understand if they didn't really want any of it, but arguably I don't think they really looked at the items. They said the things were worn or (older than a specific date) but they were all clothes i specifically don't wear, which is why i was getting rid of them, they just weren't my style. So most of the clothes were like new. I say I don't think they really looked at them because when the girl was going through my stuff she was talking with another worker and they were shopping through clothes from another donation and talking about how cute they thought the stuff was (kinda got the feeling they were shopping for themselves). But the girl kept looking over at the other girls clothes and wasn't looking at mine, just tossing them to the side. So idk. I just felt like they would have at least took some of my stuff cause it was better than what i saw when looking through the store, so pretty disappointed. I also felt like the attitude of the store wasn't the best. I'm all for like enjoying being at work and talking with your friends, but they were definitely more interested with connecting with each other than connecting with customers. Review of Plato's Closet: McKnight Road Store Manager: Dan The girls that work here are sweet but here's what happened. We took two bins of clothes in to see if they would buy anything last Saturday. Yesterday, I realized that they didn't return one of the pink Ugg boots that I had taken in to sell. I went in to sell today with the boot in hand The lovely girl at the desk said, yes, she remembered me. They had the boot in the lost shoe bin. Now, they can't find it. So I asked what the policy was for when the store loses items that customers checked into sell. The manager Dan was called. The girls explained to him what happened and he said too bad. I calmly explained to him that the girls at the register had told me the boot was there but no one called me to come pick it up. I thought perhaps he would tell me that we could have a percentage off our purchases today or at least appologize for losing our belongings but no, instead, he said "I know how to run my business" and then hung up on me. Amazing location!!!! The employees are very kind and helpful. Quick service. The line is always either non existent or just 1 person ahead of me. Tons of cute finds. I never just leave with 1 item, I always find tons of cute things to buy every visit!! Just wish they had a bathroom cause I spend 1-2 hours in Plato's trying tons of things on and I always have to end up giving them to my mom to hold onto while I run to another store to use the bathroom and come back ;) Get a bathroom and I'll be in there for HOURS shopping! I feel like I'm too old for this place. I prefer Buffalo Exchange and even Avalon over this, but there was an athletic ware event that caught my eye, so why not at least stop in? I got there 5 minutes after they opened and the Lululemon rack was decimated. I wasn't surprised at all, just kinda funny. They were teasing it up on Instagram like the store would be loaded with Lulu. I did find a Lulu gym bag at a good price, so I picked that up. Didn't seem like there were any bigger sizes on that rack, just looking for at 14 or XL, nothing too wild. They had bigger sizes in other parts of the store, but it was definitely more limited. Found an Aerie sports bra and Nike workout top at the sale, too. There's a weird musty smell in here that I can't quite put my finger on. I'm used to flea markets and smelly thrift stores, but it seems out of place for a more curated secondhand place like this one. Also the store is packed full, good luck trying to move stuff around to get a better look. Overall, I'd probably come back for a sale that interested me, but I feel like it's definitely more geared for 14-year-olds. read more

If I could give this shit hole store 0 stars, I would. I wasn't even greeted upon walking in, just met with blank stares from the incompetent teenagers working there. I walked in with a bag of clothes and one girl checked me in and took my clothes and said I needed to pick them up by 7:30pm. It was 6:30pm and I was planning to go to the mall across the street while they sorted through, but I stayed at Plato's as I knew I'd need ample time at the mall. I walked around the store because the worker said she'd be quick looking through the clothes. Wrong! She left the bag and went elsewhere in the store. Finally another worker came over and literally dumped out my bag and then shoved everything back in. Without even looking at it. And then I get a text saying that my clothes are ready for pick up. So I go to the register and no one is there. Another worker is putting away clothes and staring at me while I'm obviously waiting for service. So I walked over to her and asked if she worked here and could she please help me. She had zero clue how to check me out and finally another girl came over to help her. She found my clothes and started reading her little script about how they couldn't accept any of my clothes because they're "too mature." This is complete bullshit because I've sold to other Plato's Closets. I said just give me my clothes back - my clothes that these nitwits shoved back into the bag. Word to the wise - don't have teenagers running your shitty store and maybe teach them a thing or two about customer service. Unique store that specializes in buying used brand name clothing, then reselling them in their shop. It's like a thrift shop, but the clothes are in a lot better condition and are mostly brand-name. So if your kids are into the social status that comes with brand-name clothing, this store will save you lots of money. They don't pay much when they buy back clothing, so I prefer to donate mine to a charity. But the deals and selection available here make it worth the trip. read more

Employees ignored me and let 2 people skip in front of me even though I was there first. I was clearly standing in line holding my child and a large bag of clothes, but was totally ignored until I said something. The girl who assisted me was very polite and professional, but still I was clearly and blatantly ignored by multiple other employees. The manager was also right there on the phone giving dirty looks. They said they couldnt take anything because everything was too old or out of style, but from the looks of it they maybe pulled out 2-3 things then didn't even check the rest because majority of the clothes were still in the bag the way they initially were. I could see not taking some things because they were old, but there were multiple things that were just bought this year from popular mainstream brands. I came in here last week for the first time in years to sell some clothes that I had in my closet. Kristin & LaLa honestly made it such an incredible experience. They explained the selling process (which was seamless and quick!), helped me as I shopped around the store, and were so friendly and personable. Their happiness and energy was contagious! Usually love this store but recently my last two times have been bad. Today I went they gave me a new cashier willing I'm usually ok with She added my buy back on the recipe it but I requested to remove an item because I no longer wanted it In doing so she messed up my total with not putting my buy back on and get extremely rude and flustered with me. In the end they finally gave me my buy back in cash and refused to put it on my card When I got home I got to realize that all my clothes still had tags on them, security tags She failed to even take those off. I'd give 0 if I could. I walked in and had to wait for the girl to get off of a personal call talking about volleyball practice or whatever on the store phone. Then she passes it to the boy at the register who looked like he didn't want to be there. Then she finally helps me and said my entire laundry basket will take 20 minutes (which any other Plato's it would have taken at least 45 minutes), but I went on my way to Goodwill for that time. So then when I get the text that my stuff is done being reviewed, I come back and I'm stood at the register waiting to be helped because the other girl is busy eating and changing the song. Meanwhile the one that accepted my things is just standing there. Then when she has a moment to spare she asks me if I'm waiting for something ..? Like... girl obviously. So thennn she gets my full basket and says this sped up recitation about how they couldn't buy anything because of style and season. I have like 4 flannels and boots and jeans in this basket. So that was a lie. I honestly think they all just don't want to work. Like.. I get it. I was young once and who wants to work on a Sunday? But also, it's tough out here and I need the money. At least look through my things and try to help me out rather than send me on the way for 20 minutes thinking I'll at least make $5, just for my stuff to sit there the exactly same way I had it folded when I walked in. Came in just to drop off 4 things: brand new all tags included rock revival jeans, 7 for all mankind jeans, lucky brand jeans & a BKE jacket. I was told 15 minutes, it took more like 30-45 but it was fine because I had other errands. When I came back & my items still weren't done - I decided to look around.. Saw a lot of hoodies missing strings, stained, out of date clothes, etc.. A LOT of target & kohls brands priced at or above what it would cost if you went to those stores. Tons of AE jeans priced in a way that you could easily get them cheaper retail if you watch store sales.. Just stuff not worth buying second hand. Not anywhere I would shop but I'm sure if you have time to search - you could find a good steal or two. (Giving it the benefit of the doubt.) I was quoted $50 for the items. Yikes. No. The rock revivals cost more than that when they run on sale Buckle so I took all the items with me. When he stopped back they told him since it was longer than three days ago he could no longer collect any money and they considered the pants a donation. Why does my brand name(some never worn) clothing get passed up and told its "out of season" when I look around the store to see worn out clothing and BO stained apparel on the racks? Are BO stains in/something people look for when buying used clothes? I went back and forth between giving two and three stars. I've found some good deals here, I seem to have the best luck with jeans. I've gotten a pair of citizens of humanity jeans for $15 and a pair of madewell jeans for the same price. It seems like they prefer bedazzled buckle brands that are more popular with teens so it's pretty easy to get a pair of "adult" brand designer jeans at a good price. Most of the time the clothes are really packed in on the rack so it can be hard to look through the tops especially. I also feel, as other reviews have mentioned, that the condition of the clothes varies widely. You are only supposed to bring 6 items in the fitting room, which is sometimes enforced and sometimes not. If you have more than that you just keep them outside your fitting room door and cycle through 6 at a time. The fitting rooms are also really tiny and poorly lit with no stool or anywhere to set your clothes or bag. The employees are ok. They are typical teenagers I think. A pet peeve of mine is when cashiers are carrying on a conversation amongst themselves while checking me out. This happens every time here. It can also be a challenge to get someone to acknowledge you if you're standing right in front of them without just piping up and asking for what you need. As another reviewer mentioned, there is one employee who calls everyone "hon" or "sweetie" or "love". I find this annoying as well, especially from someone younger than me, but I don't think it's meant to be condescending and it's probably something this person will grow out of in time. I've brought things for a "buy" a few times and they have never bought anything. I get that most of my stuff is probably a little "mature" for their taste (loft, BR, jcrew, hm etc) but I definitely had some stuff that's like or better than comparables on the rack. It's annoying but it's their store so whatever. I'll probably keep coming back at least every now and then when I'm looking for a new pair of jeans. read more

The staffing has gone downhill in the last year. There's one employee in particular that never wears a mask. She's extremely rude as well. They take shoes that look chewed up by a dog but not shoes that have been worn twice. They said it looked too "worn" and couldn't take it. This platos used to be great. Now it's full of stuff they buy in bulk off of SHEIN and other fast fashion sites online. They're supposed to carry larger sizes and they don't. The way the buy changes constantly, one week they WILL buy X, the next week they won't, can take in something they have listed on their board that they're seeking and they won't buy it (especially if it's larger than a medium) the one blonde girl in particular there is extremely rude and crabby constantly. I'm not sure if it's new management or what, but the store is constantly a mess and just kind of a joke.
