I come here all the time. Mostly before college class and get an iced coffee. The chickory they use is so tasty. This the first place I have ever had chickory coffee. The pumpkin one in the fall id my favorite and I am not a pumpkin fan at all!! The workers are always kind and friendly. There is a decent amount of seating, its bright, colorful, and fun. The only sad part is the seats are hard; theyre not cushioned, just hard benches or stools. I got the golden mango bowl i believe and changed a few things on it. It's super sweet too, almost like eating dessert instead of something fresh or light. I think I have had enough of this establishment. I went today. I ordered the coco berry bowl. They tell me the coconut is completely frozen therefore they can't make it. While I'm trying to decide on another item. He then advised it's up to her another employee if she can make it. Then she says I would have to chip at it, so why suggest. I then said just substitute it for the pitaya. I get home the pitaya was so tart no honey added like how do you mess up at fruit bowl. I actually would have taken it back if I was closer. I've been a loyal customer of Playa Bowls for some time and have always had great experiences--until this last Tuesday. I arrived around 9:15 p.m., well before closing, and unfortunately waited nearly 30 minutes before my order was even taken. There were two employees present: a young man who was actively preparing orders and a young woman who was focused on cleaning, despite a line of about 7-8 customers waiting to be served. What concerned me most, however, was a hygiene issue. I observed the young woman handle trash while wearing gloves, and then proceed to touch food items and toppings containers without changing those gloves. I respectfully asked the young man to remake our drinks due to the potential for cross-contamination, which he kindly did. I'd rather take the drive to the South Brunswick location which is 25 min away vs Edison that is 5 min away. read more

I've only had their bowls and smoothies, they are always delicious and have a pretty presentation. It's also very filling! My one gripe is, when I order ahead online, my bowl is never ready at the estimated time. Granted, it's usually in the morning when there is only one or two people there, I just think the app needs to extend the time a bit to give them a chance to make the bowl. I'd rather have it ready before I get there (they have a fridge to store them in) than have to wait past the estimated time. The portion was also a good size for two to share. The amount of fruits, granola and nutella was perfect combo with the cold pitaya bowl. The service is quick and staff are friendly. The set up and scenery is pretty neat, feels like you're on an island almost. The menu is pretty extensive which is great since they have many options. I think they also have vegan friendly options. However the customer service totally needs to be stepped up. The two ladies I encountered were schmucks to be frank. I was merely trying to order a bowl for my son and it was like pulling teeth, they even forgot to ask me what BASE I wanted for my bowl; which is a must in the açaí bowls world last time I checked. I love Playa Bowls. I have reviewed other locations before but wanted to make sure I review this one as I come here the most. The food is always consistent from location to location. They are really great at accommodating any sort of dietary restriction or allergy. I almost always modify my order in some way, (adding/taking away ingredients), and that are always happy to do so. I often get the Pure Vida bowl which comes with an Açaí base. My friend from work gets a lot of bowls with the coconut vase and she is obsessed with them. Sometimes we will get bowls with multiple bases. (The coco craze bowl with half açaí is amazing btw!) I will say, if you are physically going there on your break from work, I would recommend ordering ahead of time online because the wait time can be a bit long during the lunch rush. Not sure if they have changed owners but the service has gone down substantially. In the morning, there is only one person working both the register and in store and online pickups. I order there at least 4 times a week. This morning I ordered an Pura vida bowl for pick up. After having to wait 5 minutes in the store just to pick up my order, I get home to find out that there are no fruits in the bowl. Fine, I figured I will just call and they will correct it. Finally made my way to this location and I am super impressed. First and foremost the service here is the best I have ever received at any type of smoothie bowl place. I really wanted to try their coconut base and without hesitation I was give a big spoonful to see if I liked it. Then when I loved the base I asked if I could do half and half açaí and coconut which they were happy to do. Everything came out perfect, fresh, and ripe. So happy that Playa Bowls has finally arrived to Edison! I've had this one on my calendar for a looong time. Location is minutes away from my office which makes it perfect for lunch. It's located in a shopping center with subway and a nail salon. It's a bit difficult to find the entrance to the center, so just make sure you don't pass it up. The entrance is right past the Wawa. Inside is beautiful, just like every Playa Bowls location is. There is meticulous details put into this location - you can tell by the seating, pictures, artwork.. it's really just something. Even while I ate my bowl, I found myself looking around admiring all the details. Service is excellent. I came on the day of the grand opening and was greeted by someone whom I believe was the manager. Very helpful and nice! If you've never been to a Playa Bowls before, I suggest starting out by asking for a sample at the register. They will let you try any of their "bases." I've been a fan of different Playa Bowl locations for a while, but this one dropped the ball in a couple of ways. First, I placed my order for a make your own bowl. The only difference between what comes with the standard make your own bowl price and the order I placed was that I asked for 3 toppings instead of the standard 2. I also asked for protein powder which the standard doesn't come with. There were two people who came in and ordered after I did and received their orders before I received mine. When I finally went up and asked mine was just sitting on the side. On top of that, they made the completely wrong bowl. Since they took so long in making the bowl I was running late so when they finally gave it to me I rushed out of the store. I get it, I should've checked to make sure it was my bowl, but maybe the store shouldn't have messed it up so badly? Idk. Instead of the 3 toppings I paid for I got 1 topping and I also didn't get the Nutella drizzle I asked for. Overall, I'd go to other Playa Bowls but this one wasn't great at all.
