The food and menu speaks for itself, pretty standard from one location to the next. It's good. However the staff needs better training and higher standards. We go somewhat frequently and this is the reality more often than not. No welcome or greeting as you enter the store. They don't make eye contact. They stand around and talk while you wait. They have their backs turned to you. They act as if the customers are an inconvenience. Unless of course a random friend walks in, then they greet them warmly ahead of all other guests and shower them free samples. It's hard to go wrong with playa bowls -- they're consistently delicious and refreshing -- especially in hot weather. We had the booster bowl and the green power bowl. Both were prepared quickly, tasted fresh, and were quite filling. The seating was fun / whimsical and the location has a lot of light coming through the windows. read more

This place keeps very very busy! Folks coming for the healthy alternative for a delightful summer cool treat. I let the gentleman employee make a recommendation for a smoothie for me today, I took the Acai energy smoothie. He was really knowledgeable about it. One thing I noticed was the signage letting you know the story of this chain and I think it's a nice little starter up American dream story. A couple at BelMar beach started this chain with just a blender in a little freezer with some fruits. I'm amazed to see their little shops in so many places. Very nice healthy alternative. I'm not one to bash people or spread negativity but every time I have gone into this location I find myself waiting forever (25-30 mins) People who walk in after me receive their orders first. Sometimes I think they've forgotten about my order. I always get the same thing, just an açaí bowl....Which isn't usually a problem with once in a while things but it's every time- so I started ordering ahead on the app. Employees are definitely not the friendliest either. I've heard quite a lot of personal gossip between workers or receive dirty looks from the girls while I'm waiting for my bowl. However to end on a positive note, the fruit is always good and fresh. My gluten allergy is paid attention to and the GF granola is super good! read more

Food is good but experience at this location is not. It is July 15th at 10:50 am and the teenage girl who took our order was INCREDIBLY rude. She was wearing a yellow shirt, had many necklaces on, and a French braid with auburn ish hair. First of all, she lied to us about serving water cups when every other time we have been here we have received them with no questions asked, after we had told her we have gotten this many times before she said "I'll see what I can do" and rolled her eyes. This is COMPLETELY unacceptable. Also as we were trying to place our order she was having a whole conversation with her coworkers not giving us any mind. This is absurd and something needs to be done immediately. As of right now I will not be returning because of this worker. Please have something done. read more

I never went to the playa bowls at the previous Sparta location, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had reopened by the new shoprite. I had the coco craze coconut bowl, which was fantastic. Portion size was large and they give you A LOT of fruit. The fruit was ripe and sweet. The granola was really good, crunchy but super light at the same time and tasted like blueberry. Even though there was a decent line, service was fast. They have an option for online ordering. If I could give 0 stars I would! The açaí is not freshly made, I watched one of the workers pull out a container full of leftover açaí from the fridge, gross! The strawberries were very soggy and not fresh, they gave a great amount of unpleasantness. The only good thing about my bowl was the honey. Horrible horrible service. First, I never ever write reviews. This one deserves one, because it was soooo bad! They were putting all of their chairs up a full hour before closing, upon our arrival. My daughter ordered a shake and it was disgustingly, lukewarm like piss warm! No joke! When we told them they said ok fine np we will make her a new one. When we got it back they said that they had to charge us in (with a total attitude!) We didn't want to make a scene so we paid but that was not appropriate because they messed up! My daughters friend was there and the mother had ordered online 35 minutes prior, but when they went there it wasn't ready and they blamed it on the website and that it didn't come through but the mom saw that it went through! She ordered it again and then she waited and waited another 20 minutes, while other patrons were coming in and ordering their bowls and getting them. Finally, she spoke up and asked where the bowls were and the girls said they were going to start making them right then. It was like I completely forgot .while chucking at eachother. I hope the owner reads these reviews. Because everyone working on Thursday evening, including the woman in charge, should be reprimanded for their poor attitude and UN-professionalism!!!! Again, never ever do I sit and write a review on anything. But this one deserves it. I should never have paid for the second shake. But I did not want to make a scene in front of children over a $10 shake. Playa bowls in Sparta NEVER disappoints. I find myself back there at least once or twice a week. I've never had a bowl that wasn't perfectly delicious, particularly if Sam is making it (btw she's also so hot that she might burn your eyes off before you get to taste the delicacy that is presented to you across that counter).
