We have been craving a smoothie place so hard in Wilmington but we only saw chains -- we don't do Clean Juice because we went to the one in Tampa and did not like it. We were pleasantly surprised to see so many positive reviews on YELP so we headed over. What's so good?? The ingredients really speak for the place. Everything is super fresh and you can taste the fact it is made to order. I got the classic "Pure Vida Açaí Bowl" with added banana for $0.75. The Açaí base was, again, very fresh and well blended without being a total purée. I loved the granola the most because it wasn't mushy the entire time: crunchy throughout is the way to go. The honey on top of the fruit (blueberries and strawberries and banana) was super organic and not too sweet. Great taste all around. According to my Doordash I am an A1+ customer of this franchise restaurant. Typically, with businesses who care about customer retention, A1+ customers are treated well. If there's an issue it gets solved quickly. The Mayfair location of Playa Bowls does not care about customer retention. They would prefer to hire young and good looking women who are not the friendliest or the quickest problem solvers. I have ordered Doordash Playa 16 times in the last 20 days. Today was the first time I ever went in that store. Because I do not have my Doordash full ingredients memorized, I tried pulling up Doordash in the store. For whatever reason, it was not working. The pretty young girl behind the register could not care less and in fact seemed rather irritated. The other pretty young girl making my food did not understand what I was trying to tell them when I figured out that Doordash had marked their business as being closed. I made them aware of this but they didn't care. They suffered from an excruciating lack of curiosity and customer retention skills because I will not be spending any more money at the store. I'm gonna make my Doordash person go all the way over to the other one so they get the money. I promise you, when I stop ordering from your store you're gonna notice. Whoever manages or owns this location needs to consider hiring people based on their skills and experience with customer service. I know it's a beach town, but there are a lot of really talented young people out here. And all of them would be better than the pretty ladies you like to look at. That's why they got hired. ETA: Please do not let the responsive "manager" fool you. The service at that location is absolutely terrible. There were three young women working and probably 15 to 20 people in the store. The rudest woman at the register was on her phone most of the time I was in there. Don't go to this location. It sucks. It's slow and they always mess something up, I just left that out because I didn't want to be too harsh but since the manager has decided to respond, they forget a lot. When I DoorDash from this location, I usually have to remind them to include the smoothie because they have forgotten it five times. Five times on the DoorDash order of two items. I should be able to get my order under 10 minutes. That's not possible at this location, even if they aren't busy. Because the people who work there do not care about their jobs and it is very obvious as soon as you go into the store. Let's see what the manager responds to now. I guarantee the owner is male and hires young women under the age of 30 based on how much he likes to look at them, not their skill set. That is a lie that men believe believes themselves. read more

I definitely recommend this business! I cannot believe there are so many smoothie and fruit bowls to choose from. I love that you can choose different bases for your bowl and that they even have a sign that outlines the benefits of each. You can even do a mix of half and half. Service is very friendly and staff is knowledgeable. Because everything is made to order it does take a little bit, but it is so worth it. Love the decorations and decor inside. Playa Bowls is located next to Chipotle in Mayfaire. Tried this franchise on its grand opening day. There was a long line of people already waiting before they opened. They were nice enough to give some free cold brew coffee of Lucky Joe's Jammin' Jamaican while we were waiting out in the hot weather. The decor and decorations were fun to look at, an island and surfer style. It's a small place, so there is not much seating when it is busy. You place your order at the cashier and wait for them to call your name when it's done. They offer a variety of bowls including acai, green, chia pudding, oatmeal, coconut, and banana bowls. Other menu options are fresh juices, smoothies, cold brew coffee, bagged blueberry flax granola, other bottled drinks, and packaged vegan and gluten-free Jonesbars. They have specialized menu items but you can add extra ingredients to the bowls and smoothies for an extra cost. Some of the extra ingredients are whey protein or vegan protein to add a protein boost. My order for the Electric Mermaid Pitaya bowl ($11) was done pretty quickly. It came with fresh chopped mango, kiwi, pineapple, as well as granola, and dried coconut flakes/pieces. The sweetness was perfect, it wasn't overly sweet. They layered the fruit on top, then the granola, and then the pitaya smoothie blend. Even though the granola was smothered in the smoothie blend, it was still crunchy. The price of the bowls and smoothies are a bit expensive. They do offer a 15% discount off your next visit if you sign up with your phone number on their deal alert. They also offered a card for 10% off the next visit. The bowl was filling for a meal. We came here to get bowls and smoothies on a hot day. It's located right next door to Chipotle in Mayfaire. I love their menu board. It looks great but it's very very lonnnng. I went for a green hemp bowl. For it's name it actually contained a surprisingly stingy amount of hemp seed... maybe 1/4 teaspoon (if that), but it tasted delicious and definitely satisfied my sweet tooth while cooling me down. You can easily make a meal of their bowls. Next time I'm going to try a chia pudding bowl. I might have tried a combination of two bases had I noticed this option before I ordered. Under special smoothies it says you can get "any comination" YES (shock!) there is a typo. They left out a letter... but whatever nobody is perfect. The atmosphere is fun and artsy. The music could use some help. Didn't go with the aesthetic at all but the compostable spoons made up for it. No styrofoam from what I could see and that's a big plus for me. Way way way better than clean juice if you want a bowl. I can almost guarantee their juices are better too but I haven't tried a juice at Playa Bowl yet. Looking forward to going back! read more
